WMD LIE EXPOSED

Seems Robert Fisk fell for faulty intelligence:

HonestReporting UK recently challenged Robert Fisk’s charge that Israel had deployed a “secret uranium bomb” in Southern Lebanon during this summer’s conflict.

In a fit of sensationalist reporting unbefitting a “quality” newspaper, the Independent published the story on the front page without waiting for the results of a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) investigation into the allegations.

That investigation’s findings:

No depleted uranium shrapnel, or other radioactive residue was found. The analysis of all smear samples taken shows no depleted uranium, enriched uranium or higher than natural uranium content in the samples.

Neither Fisk nor his newspaper have apologised.

  1. Of course they won’t apologise. They are so incredibly wrong that for them to admit that Israel didn’t do something bad would be catastrophic.

Perhaps Fisk should shut the fuck up, go live in Southern Lebanon where he can be attacked by Hezbollah ‘youths’ and then wallow in self-derision as he did in Afghanistan many years ago.

The only ‘secret uranium bomb’ is the one sitting in Fisk’s mind. Let’s blow him up first. That would solve at least one problem.

  2. Need to send inspector to Fisk’s head and search for hidden WMD.

Make sure they’re equipped with crowbars, there’s definately some locks on that brain.

  8. Yes but it’s one of those news stories that ‘could’ have been true .... therefore there is no need for them to apologise.

  10. Perhaps like this:
“Not because the Muslim faith in itself is dangerous or harmful - absolutely not - but because there are people out there who are using the faith of Islam to radicalise young people and to turn them to terror.”

Inayat Banglawala, assistant Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Great Britain, said British Muslims should work to halt the terrorist threat.

He said: “Of the 30 plots that Dame Eliza mentioned, just how serious these are we will not know until of course these people are picked up and brought before courts of law.”

  15. Ya know, Herr Fisk is one lousy Minister of Propaganda. Goebbels is probably spinning in the grave. Seriously, does ANYONE take Fisk seriously? (Aside from Fisk, that is.)  Certainly he’s not a real person, but a fictional character created to sell papers. That must be it.  OK, from this point forward I refuse to believe that Robert Fisk is a real person. It’s more likely a creation of Wronwright. No doubt a minor ruse in some grand Rovian scheme.  A bit over-the-top (even for Wronwright), but the sweaty arm pits and triple-speak are a nice touch.

  16. It gets worse.
Neither The Age or The Australian are interested in re-visiting their ‘confirmed’ stories on the ‘bombed’ Red Cross ambulances of Lebanon - it doesn’t MATTER, apparently, that Israel is saddled with nasty war crimes hoaxes because they reported propaganda.
They are not CROSS that they were duped, and they don’t want the public to see them go RED.
    Pathetic bias.

Good call Texas Bob. Although, if that was the intention, then hopefully those papers should be out of business very soon.

Democrat voters and the majority of Europe, the Middle East, Russia, China, North Korea etc would be only too pleased to see the eagles wings clipped. If it’s got Syrian Ba’athist support, it’s gotta be Democratic Party policy.

  23. Read this.

A friend of mine made a good point today. On the same day Antony Leftard Loewenstein published a typically anti-Israel tirade in The Age, two virulently anti-Israel letters were also printed, both asking ‘why the Age refused to report on the Palestinian “massacre”’.

My friend noticed that the 18 dead Palestinians in Gaza story got a whole lot of column space, plus letters, while the mere “45 dead, 120 injured” in Sri Lanka was put in a teeny-tiny paragraph on the side.

Evidently, the Sri Lankans didn’t get the write-up as they didn’t have the “river of blood” flowing in the streets, as was the case according to Mahmoud Abbas. Was that Pallywood or what?

My friend’s a doctor. He also worked out, that given the average human body contains (at a generous estimate) 5.7 litres of blood, 18 dead would give you roughly, if they were pretty big (which we know is unlikely, as the Israelis use shrinking rays against the Palestinians, in blatant disregard for the Geneva convention, the UN and the Port Huron statement) and assuming that every single victim had their entire bodies drained of blood to the last drop -  102.6 litres.

    Some river.

Even Reuters however, used the specific wording of “water stained with blood” - which whilst conjuring up disturbing mental images, might also happen to any fisherman.

He also observed the juxtaposition of Saturday’s article about the 60 “heroic” Palestinian women acting as human shields for gunmen hiding in the mosque and the subsequent outrage at “killing of innocent civilians” in the area.

Apparently the media cannot see the connection from human shields and firing mortars from within civilian areas that results in dead civilians. That’s what happens to human shields. You can’t have it both ways.

    Unless you are the Palestinians.

If you are the Sri Lankans however, you’re on your own. Darfur? Forget about it.

Sadly, yes. And their like just won control of the US Senate and House.

Even Reuters however, used the specific wording of “water stained with blood” - which whilst conjuring up disturbing mental images, might also happen to any fisherman.

Last time I was deep-sea fishing, the ship’s mate gaffed himself to chum the waters. Still a slow day of fishing, but we thought it was very sporting of him.

  25. If you look at the map on wikipedia about the Arab-Israeli conflict and you notice just how small and surrounded by hostile countries it is, it makes you realise why the Israelis are so aggressive in the defence of their very small and threatened strip of coast along the mediterraenean. If they roll over to people who play fast and loose with the rules of civilised warfare, they’ll end up in the sea.

  26. #20 From the site you linked: This is not a complete list, nor can we verify these totals. This is simply a compilation of deaths reported by news agencies. Actual totals for Iraqi deaths are much higher than the numbers recorded on this site.

I find it interesting that they cannot verify the totals, yet they can assure us that the actual numbers are higher.

Well, you do get a free DVD,

I’m not sure if it was just a brief phenomena, but last time I was in England, it seemed every single newspaper was giving something away with each issue, from “free buttered-toast at McDonalds” to “Free beer”, “Free CD/DVD” etc.

It struck me that people would choose what paper to buy on the basis of that day’s freebies.

Of course there were a far broader spectrum of papers to choose from. Here, it’s a case of paying the measly $1 for the Herald Sun / Daily Telegraph, or getting the free copy of the SMH/Age that they are desperately trying to give away to prop up dying circulation from dying communists.
