<< GENERAL PANIC ~ MAIN ~ HAIL TO THE BUS DRIVER, BUS DRIVER MAN >>

WHY THEY HATE US

In the London Times, Roger Scruton attacks a persistent myth:

Apologists for terrorism (and they are not in short supply) argue that it is a weapon used by people who despair of achieving their goals in any other way. It is a cry from the depths by those deprived of a voice in the political process. The terrorist is not an aggressor but a victim, and we must disarm him not by violence but by addressing the grievance that motivates his deeds. This argument has been used to excuse Palestinian suicide bombers, IRA kneecappers, Red Brigade kidnappers, and even the mass murderers of September 11. Its main effect is to blame the victim and excuse the crime.

If you look at the actual condition of terrorists down the ages, however, you will soon discover that the excuse does not match the reality.

Those who would “address grievances” are provided with this handy list, compiled by Christopher Hitchens:

We know very well what the “grievances” of the jihadists are.

The grievance of seeing unveiled women. The grievance of the existence, not of the State of Israel, but of the Jewish people. The grievance of the heresy of democracy, which impedes the imposition of sharia law. The grievance of a work of fiction written by an Indian living in London. The grievance of the existence of black African Muslim farmers, who won’t abandon lands in Darfur. The grievance of the existence of homosexuals. The grievance of music, and of most representational art. The grievance of the existence of Hinduism. The grievance of East Timor’s liberation from Indonesian rule. All of these have been proclaimed as a licence to kill infidels or apostates, or anyone who just gets in the way.

I’m glad he mentioned East Timor. Anti-war leftoids, who supported East Timor’s liberation, always seem to forget East Timor when blaming the West for Islamic terror.

UPDATE. Another Hitchens piece here.

  1. Thank G’d for Chris!
But even these grievances are irrelevant.
We are simply facing a religious war and nothing we do to appease will make an iota of difference in the end.
We are all infidel targets. decadent and immoral and living under the blasphemous laws of democracy and equality.
Israel must be anhiliated, All muslim countries must yield to sharia law and the western crusader nations made to submit to the sword of Islam. Any resistance or even criticisms of Islam by the infidel must be severely punished.
    Is this New?
No -it has been going on for 1400 years but we have chosen for a large variety of reasons to excise this from our History books.
Had we not done so, we would have been able to resist the renewed onslaught of the last twenty years.
Now it is too late to point the finger at the Eurabian politicians who allowed this to happen, but it is not too late to recognise the threat we all face.

  2. From the Bulletin:
    http://bulletin.ninemsn.com.au/bulletin/site/articleIDs/8508F5F3BB31CF33CA25703300734AD4

Taking into account the absolute cost of raising children from 0 to 18 for a typical high-income family with a combined annual income of $150,000 or more, plus income sacrificed by the parent with primary responsibility for the child, the total cost of raising a first child in Sydney is, for the first time, more than one million dollars: $1,032,600, to be precise.
Now, multiply that lost income by Four Wives, and the number of children out to about 16, and you start to see how this is really costing them a packet! No wonder they hate us.

In a backhanded sort of way, the apologists are right about this.  That’s because terrorists’ goals are always so outrageous (see:  Christopher Hitchens above) that to pursue them via peaceful, political means would be futile, and they know it.  This does not excuse the terrorists, or the apologists.

I would not argue that terrorism is a weapon of last resort. It is not a weapon of first resort either.
Why? because it is not terrorism that we face but Islamic Jihad - the execution of God’s will on the kaffir people and those who are effectively Muslim apostates because they have fallen into the decadent ways of the west.
Describing 911, Madrid,Bali, Beslan, london as terrorism is PC language for Islamic terrorism. Terrorism is also a euphemism which serves to transform Jihad into politically correct secular struggle.

  5. Note the Age’s tag line to Hitchens’ article

“Christopher Hitchens is an American-based columnist.”

    Can’t help themselves.
