WHO YOU GONNA CALL?
Michael Gawenda sees a ghost:
Bush’s argument that the world had changed since 1978 and that America faced an unprecedented terrorism threat, that America indeed was at war, doesn’t wash.
What does wash is this from Cheney, who defended the wiretaps by saying that a contraction of presidential power since the Vietnam War and the Watergate era had to be reversed.
“I believe in strong, robust executive authority and I think the world we live in demands it,” he said.
And so bugger congress and bugger the courts. You could almost see the ghost of Richard Nixon hovering above him as he spoke.
Cheney said that during his visit to the Middle East. Gawenda was in the US at the time, apparently hallucinating.
Bush’s argument that the world had changed since 1978 and that America faced an unprecedented terrorism threat, that America indeed was at war, doesn’t wash.
So Mikey doesn’t think that the world has changed since 1978? Proof positive that the MSM is stuck on Vietnam and the 1970’s. And Gawenda is an ancient hippy wearing a three piece suit.

Ah, the MSM as a sadsack Al Bundy clone (re: his four touchdowns back in high school football that he’d go on and on about)...how appropriate, yet how pitiful.
Anyone who was around in 1978 can tell you how different the world has changed since then for the average person, in very ordinary ways. Just a few:
TV 1978: 4 channels, all boring
TV 2005: 200 channels, HBO After DarkTV reception 1978: sucks, needs very tall antenna tower, fine tuning device, teenage son stupid enough to climb the tower, damn good medical insurance
TV reception 2005: cable, crisp and clearcomputers, 1978: huge mainframes, punch cards, worthless to average consumer
computers, 2005: small servers, inexpensive, extremely helpful softwarehome computers, 1978: nothing
home computers, 2005: average home has one, maybe more especially if you have kids that want’s to IM and “perform research for term papers dad, yes, I have to have one, it’s required by school!”dissemination of news and information 1978: Walter Cronkite, NYT, liberal slant
dissemination of news and information 2005: liberal news, with competition from conservative talk radio and blogs, FOX Newspersonal communication 1978: land phone, CB (“trucker, trucker, that’s a 10-4!”)
personal communication 2005: digital phones, instant messaging, email, Blackberries, fax machinesBill Gates 1978: geek, chances of getting laid is negative 1,000,000%
Bill Gates 2005: rich, Time Man of the Year, chances of getting laid is no longer in negative digits, not high, but not negativeThere’s more, a lot more. But Blair doesn’t pay me for this, so that’s all I’m doing.

Given that nothing in the world has changed since 1978, we best watch out for those no-good Russians. Well, I mean you guys best watch out for them - I’m safe here in the cradle of communism behind the Iron Curtain, after all.
If only the World Trade Center Buildings and 3,000 innocent human beings were still around.
His argument about the unchanging face of the international Jihadist threat would be flawless.

Guess that fits, given what we now know in the way of little-known facts about Dick Cheney.

You could almost see the ghost of Richard Nixon hovering above him as he spoke.
Then the President of Iran has an aura around him when addressing the U.N.
I’m getting a bit spooked.
It’s like Ghost busters when spiritual activity is heightened before Armageddon.
How reliable is this Gawenda chappy?
I guess I should question the reliability of that Iranian fellow as well.
Oh, no! The world has NOT changed since 1978? So it’s back to gingham shirts, huge sideburns, white shoes and bell bottoms for me?
Let me look at The Gap….
AAAAAH! IT IS1978!!

Well, the Iraq-as-Vietnam playbook doesn’t seem to be working out. So it’s time for Bush-as-Nixon. This has been coming for a long time.
It’s always sad to see someone who was once famous or a high school athletic hero permanently stuck in the moment of their high water marks. So it is with the press and Vietnam and Watergate.
