“WE ARE BUSINESSMEN”
Indians stand up to terrorism:
“Terrorists can do anything they like,” 52-year-old businessman Dilip Khadaria said. “We are businessmen, we will be going back to work. It won’t hamper our business, it won’t stop our work.”
Businessmen as idealists. These guys rock. More:
While the city’s top brass were generous in their praise for the man on the street in the aftermath of Tuesday’s bloodbath on the rails, many outsiders were in awe of the resilience that put the city back on its feet in no time.
The way Mumbai came back to life after the initial shock within the first few hours has etched a valiant picture in the minds of thousands in and outside the city.
”One thing is very clear. Whenever the city faces any calamity it is the courage of the common man that comes to the fore,” said ace Bollywood film director Rakesh Roshan.
An email from Jaydeep Patil is all over the internet:
We are Mumbaikers and we live like brothers in times like this. So, do not dare to threaten us with your crackers. The spirit of Mumbai is very strong and can not be harmed.
With you all the way, Mumbaikers.
UPDATE. A vegetable seller kicks things up a notch:
Mumbai residents displayed their resilient spirit by returning to work yesterday. But many questioned India’s approach to terrorism. “We keep priding ourselves on how we bounce back after these blasts and Mumbai’s ‘spirit’, but haven’t we got it wrong?” asked Anshuman Datta, a vegetable seller. “Shouldn’t we be priding ourselves on our ability to hit back at those responsible?”
God, I wish New York City had half the guts of these guys. Good for them.
New York’s Record:
Revolutionary War: Surrendered
War of 1812: Surrendered before the enemy got there
Civil War: Refused to go; lynched blacks
World Wars I and II: Probably the only spot in the nation with a bunch of out-and-out war protestors
Vietnam War: Refused to go; did not lynch blacks, however
War on Terror: Apparently, surrenderedHey
It has been about 36 hours since the bombs went off and no-one appears to (as yet) blamed George W Bush or John Howard. Are all of the lefties asleep at the wheelPosted by LuvDaKartoons on 2006 07 12 at 03:58 PM • permalinkGo Mumbai! Screw the terrorists!
Lefties—take notes. This is the way it should be done.

For at least 10 seconds.
Posted by Stop Continental Drift! on 2006 07 12 at 04:38 PM • permalinkWell done, terrorists. The world’s largest democracy has just joined the anglosphere, where she rightly belongs. She was heading in that direction anyway.
All the terrorists need to do now is put a bomb on a train in Beijing and final piece in the jigsaw will be complete.
Not that I wish for an atrocity on Chinese citizens of course, but at least such an event will finally force China to pick sides. Then it really is game over for the terrorists if it isn’t already – they’ll take no crap.

Israeli Warplanes Strike Palestinian Guerilla Camp Near Beirut
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Israeli warplanes blasted a Palestinian guerrilla base late Wednesday on the outskirts of Beirut, trying to pin down Hezbollah fighters who earlier in the day crossed the border and killed eight Israeli soldiers, kidnapping two others.
Sorry for your losses Israel, but you sure as hell kick ass and take names. Happy as hell you are on our side, against anything OR anyone.
While the media continues to cover the “brutal” three hots and a cot treatment of inmates at Gitmo, and publish every allegation against US or Israeli forces, the new rulers of Somalia are imposing order of a sort without much protest about their methods. In diplo-chat it’s a fait accompli.
The west may need to discard normal “civilised” warfare rules to impose order or destruction on deniable proxies, or “non state” players. Lebanon is now protesting that the Hisbollah actions are not their doing. So, if Israel is to take pity on dysfuctional Lebanon, perhaps Syria and Iran (the major supporters of hisbollah) should be attacked in lieu?
The Indians and the Afghans now both have a case for attacking Pakistan, or whichever state is behind the latest bombing.
The Vatican is belatedly groping towards a policy that no mosques should be built in Christian countries without Christian churches going into Islamic ones. Reciprocity I think they are calling it. Sounds fair. Also unlikely under the prevailing PC/multyculty bendover EU mob.
If we are to be so preoccupied with lefty whinges about the legality of taking terrorists like Khaled Sheik Mohammed on unscheduled and secret flights, while accepting as unactionable the series of outrages leading to Mumbai, we are mugs. And International Law is worthless. This isn’t the first time India has been attacked. I’ve read somewhere that they have suffered the most casualties in the past several decades from Islamist attacks…something on the order of over 30 thousand.
You never had to worry about which side India was on…and there are nearly as many Hindus in India as there are in the entire Muslim world.
The future will show in 20/20 hindsight that the Islamists could never have won.
Much like the South during the War of Northern Aggression, it was eventually shown that they were beat while the other side had one hand tied behind its back. They, like the Muzzies now, were only expected to win by the Media and by the opposition political party.
Time to reopen the Black Hole of Calcutta, this time with a few RoP inhabitants, methinks.

Report: Al Qaeda Claims to Have Kashmir Wing, Applauds Train Bombings
SRINAGAR, India — A man claiming to represent Al Qaeda told an Indian news agency on Thursday that the terror network had set up a wing in Kashmir and appealed to Indian Muslims to take up jihad.
In a statement read over the phone to Kashmir’s Current News Service, a man who identified himself as Abu al-Hadeed, reportedly said: “whosoever has carried out the attacks in Bombay we express our gratitude and happiness.”
I’m shocked, truly shocked.<——- this is sarcasm, just thought I’d have to mention that.
It’s now Mumbai, didn’t you 7th Century scum praise allah removed from the Earth, piece be upon all of you soon get the memo.
What the fuck you you think you have computers for and Google Earth?
I also agree with the fruit seller. Showing resolve while taking a beating is a form of courage, but if you dwell there too long it becomes just another form of victimology. Real resolve is shown by bouncing back with force.

...bloody web terrorists!
Overheard from a female workmate today: “Do they know who did this and why?”. She seemed genuinely mystified. She had previously fallen for the line that last year’s French car BBQ was purely the result of white bigotry.
I am not the least bit sanguine about the prospects for the future in this current world war. Most of Europe has already surrendered, just like during WWII, bust trying to ingratiate themselves with their attackers, or else trying to play both teams, like France did during the Cold War. Instead of trying to forge a common alliance against islamic supremacism, most countries who are fighting or have fought their own islamists are busy collaborating with or apologising for islamists in other countries, the USA and India being no exception.

If you want to see what India’s been putting up with for years, read the Daily Excelsior. The archives go back to October 1998 and there’s practically not a single day that goes by without one or more people being butchered by the RoP.
I’ll probably get beat about the head and shoulders for saying this but I do think I needs be said.
Watch any herd of grass eaters. Watch them eating their grass. Watch them all run around when the preditors show up. Watch one of the grass eaters attempt to save itself while the other grass eaters move to just out of reach of the preditors and stand around and watch.
Then watch the grass eaters all go back to eating grass as soon as the preditors start feeding.
This whole “we’ll just show them! We’ll go right back to our day to day life!” is a grass eater response.
#47: Oh. Never mind.
Say, what is the etymology of the word “cracker”, anyway? Seems likes there’s always at least two explanations for these things. For example, North Carolinians are known as “tarheels”, and I’ve heard two stories: (1) that in the Civil War (or maybe it was the Revolution), Carolinians were such daughty fighters that they stood under fire and couldn’t be budged, as if they had tar on their heels; and (2) they were such chickens that you had to put tar on their heels to keep ‘em from running away. I rather suspect the first one to be true; the seond theory sounds like it might have been made up by somebody from South Carolina.
Larrikin—
Never underestimate businessmen. We’re a damn tough bunch.
You know you’re not joking right? In WWI there were entire City Battalions raised from the young clerks of London for Kitchener’s army.
Posted by richard mcenroe on 2006 07 13 at 06:58 PM • permalinkWell, the Pals battalions were patriotic, brave and other good things, but they were mowed down in droves. They were the lions who were led by donkeys. The donkeys got the earldoms and the lions got little bits of England in Flanders.
There’s a degree of truth in what Grimmy said.
We all share the sorrow and anger of the Mumbaikers, but curb your enthusiasm. Hindu praxis looks good compared to Islamic, but so does a boxcar full of decayed pork bellies. Hindus do not, so’s you’d notice, share many of what we like to think of as core western values.
As for daily Muslim outrages, India also enjoys daily Hindu outrages. Setting fire to low-castes who stand in the wrong line at the train station is a national sport.
Posted by Harry Eagar on 2006 07 14 at 02:36 AM • permalinkRe the quote from the vegetable seller: I remember reading once that some concentration camp victims had built a pyramid of skulls as a memorial to those killed by the Nazis. An English officer saw it and apparently said “if they had killed millions of my people I too would build a pyramid of skulls. But I would build the pyramid not of the camp victims but of those who put them there”. I think these thoughts are valid today as the civilised world face an enemy determined to wipe it out.

So Bollywood ain’t Hollywood. The Indians are damn fortunate!
