  3. My condolences to anyone for whom this war has become personal in such a manner.  The way things are going make it even more difficult for those of us who have lost beloved family members (thank you very much Murtha, Pelosi and co.).

  5. God rest his soul and comfort his family. And protect his comrades from the criminal fatuity of quislings like Murtha, Pelosi, Hagel et al.

  7. I’m really sorry to hear about American lives lost in Iraq this week.

America, let them fight it out amongst themselves. Don’t lose your brave men for this.

  10. 5 What Paco said.

And it’s worth reflecting on some observations of Andrew Bacevich:
“it seems to me that it would help to dampen unrealistic expectations — it would help to ensure that discourse about matters related to force was lively and useful — if we had a substantial number of members of Congress who were veterans; if some number of the editors, publishers, reporters of major newspapers had served in the military; if the people who call the shots on Wall Street and the corporate world had some personal understanding of military affairs. I do think that people who have served will tend to be less prone to illusions.”

  11. As usual, I am at a loss for what to say other than my prayers and condolences for Prof Bacevich and all who are personally touched by the death of his son.

1.618, thank you for the sparkles - you said it better than I could.

God be with them and with all our troops in harm’s way.

  13. Would agree with you 1.618, if these Middle Eastern conflicts didn’t threaten the security of our civilisation, too. Otherwise, not one brave Australian or American life is worth the madness of Islamic self-destruction. For Andrew Bacevich, dealing with sadness and loss must be hard enough without the added anger and frustration to go with it under these circumstances. If our support helps you in any way, Mr Bacevich, you are most welcome to it.
