VOTE NO ON KYOTO

National Party leader Don Brash is building New Zealand’s Kyoto debacle into an election issue:

We will not penalise businesses and workers who generate our growth and wealth for the sake of a system that favours the competing businesses and workers of some of the world’s worst offenders when it comes to emitting greenhouse gases.

It doesn’t make sense to do so when you realise that we contribute less than 0.5% of the greenhouse gas emissions generated by all the world’s developed economies, and our scope for reducing agricultural emissions is so limited.

No one else is being asked to hobble their economy to uphold Kyoto – and we don’t intend to be the world’s first in that contest.

  1. Still waiting to hear one word about the NZ Kyoto blowout in the Australian MSM.

  4. If the Greenhouse Policy Coalition has got it right NZ is indeed in trouble.

“With regard to our large energy intensive industrials (and there are not many in New Zealand) we have reason to believe that most are operating close to or at World’s Best Practice (WBP) in emissions intensity already and this is being borne out as they go through their WBP studies with the Climate Change Office in order to qualify for a Negotiated Greenhouse Agreement’

“We do not believe the carbon tax will reduce emissions in New Zealand and therefore it is a bad policy move. It will take around $400 million from the economy on an annual basis and achieve very little in emission reductions’

    http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/SC0507/S00028.htm

If the Guardian can run articles such as these excerpts are from saying the fear is that it will cost the UK 1 billion pounds per annum what is the impact of 400 million a year going to be on NZ.

“But this year the golden glow has turned to rust as economic growth has fallen below trend, energy prices have risen rapidly to among the highest in Europe and carbon emissions have started to rise again. Stories of potential power shortages this winter causing factory shutdowns that once seemed alarmist now have a ring of credibility……

Britain has done little to tackle emissions from houses and vehicles while progress on the “renewables obligation” has been much slower than the government forecast, despite the National Audit Office’s expectation that it will cost an annual £1bn by 2010.”

  5. Meanwhile our Environment Minister is sounding more and more confused:

    Canberra in denial over greenhouse
THE Howard Government has denied global warming exists, or that burning coal releases greenhouse gases that lead to climate change, in court documents defending its approval of two Queensland coalmines.

The denial comes a fortnight after Environment Minister Ian Campbell released a report warning that climate change is inevitable as a result of rising greenhouse emissions and that the impacts must be considered in all future government decisions.

  6. Cuckoo, it made the Australian last Saturday:

    here

From the story: “New Zealand faces a $1.2billion blowout in the cost of adhering to the protocol, because negotiators badly underestimated the quantity of greenhouse gas the country would emit.”

But as expected, no other comments. Are we allowed to chuckle or even laugh?  I suppose not because there are still lots of loonies over here who would impose a similar burden on us.

  7. Like the mainstream Anthony Albanese of the ALP. Have no doubt that if elected, it’s heads down, ass up, praying to Mother Gaia on a temple of protocols.

  9. If the earth is warming up now then it must have been a lot cooler before we really got the coal fired industrial revolution going.  Say in the 10th C when the vikings colonised Greenland for cattle grazing and could grow grapes in Norway.  Last time I checked Greenland had no agriculture sector because it got too cold and you can’t grow grapes north of Germany.  Greenland CIA(link not working)

A couple of years ago two German scientists published their real scientific findings that the sun is hotter now than it has been for a thousand years.  The environistas didn’t dispute the Germans’ discovery, because it was proven by using real science. Fortunately the environistas were able to immediately rule out any causal link between a hotter sun and a hotter earth.

Now I know I haven’t got any postgraduate degrees in being a public nuisance, property crime and propaganda based on theories that sound scientific.  But I did notice that when more heat came from the sun to earth in the day it was hotter.  When less heat came at night it was colder….naaah what would I know coal heats the earth.

  12. what these science wonders at kyoto seem to have missed is that CO2 is really a minor player in the ‘greenhouse gasses’ scheme; everything but water vapor is really (95% of the total). most of the water vapor we can do nothing about, but the LLL sure like to do something they can feel good about, even when it’s worse than useless.

twits deserve whatever they do to themselves.

Sure they are.  The whole thing was designed to destroy American business.

Why do you think our Senate - including all the Democrats - voted during the DemocRat Clinton Administration that they would not ratify the treaty if it was brought to them?

Whiners around the world blame President Bush for the U.S. not signing on to Kyoto, but all he did was be honest about it.  Which Clintoon was incapable of doing.

.... or the link between a hotter sun, a hotter earth, a hotter Mars…

Astronomers here in the US have been screaming at the Global Warming crowd since 2001, TELLING them that the sun’s hotter and that there is global warming on Mars.

Here, here, and here are just a few of the articles that came out in popular scientific publications in December of 2001.  Unfortunately, the MSM can say that this story came out at a bad time, when every reporter on earth was tied up in 24-hour reporting of 9/11 aftermath and the buildup to Afghanistan.

So… global warming on Mars… I guess it’s caused by all those Martians driving around in SUV’s?
