VIOLENCE CONTINUES

More craziness in sunny Sydney:

New violence erupted in Sydney overnight in the wake of the Cronulla race riot, with gangs of men rampaging through the beachside suburb.

In what may be a reprisal for Sunday’s mob attacks on Australians of Middle Eastern origin at Cronulla, cars carrying up to 50 men [ed: very large cars, evidently] drove into the suburb last night, smashing car windows with baseball bats, witnesses said.

There were unconfirmed reports a person had been shot, reporters in the area saying they heard gunshots near the Northies Hotel.

Cronulla residents last night flooded the suburb’s streets with some claiming they had been told by police they could carry weapons as long as they were discreet.

Cars are a primary target:

Mobs of men have damaged a number of vehicles in an outbreak of fresh violence in the southern Sydney suburb of Cronulla tonight.

A reporter from radio station 2GB said “chaos” had broken out in the beach shopping centre with vehicles damaged and police making arrests as mobs of men roam the streets ...

Police guarding against any repeat of yesterday’s race riot at Cronulla tonight blocked off streets around the Lakemba Mosque, in Sydney’s south-west, after about 500 mostly Muslim men gathered, apparently after rumours of an imminent attack on the building.

There’s more on that mosque guard in this SMH report:

Twenty carloads of men arrived at Cronulla by about 10.30pm, smashing shops, and cars in Elouera Road, and threatening people who got in their way. They reportedly stabbed a woman at Carringbah, but her condition was unknown.

Gunshots were heard near Northies Hotel at Cronulla and there was an unconfirmed report of a man being shot.

About 11.30pm a group of about 100 Cronulla locals surrounded a car carrying men of Middle Eastern appearance, but police cleared the crowd and let the car escape.

Hours earlier, about 200 men had assembled outside Lakemba Mosque - some armed with Glock pistols - and dozens more gathered at Campsie. They were preparing to travel to Maroubra Beach, where up to 300 locals, many armed with crowbars, waited for an arranged fight, according to “Bra Boys” at the beach.

Further on the beach trash v. Lebanese hoodlum contest in the Daily Telegraph. And this from the SMH’s Damien Murphy:

Jennifer Cornwall, who is writing a municipal history of the shire, said Sunday’s riot was part of a continuing problem fanned by the rise of Pauline Hanson, Tampa and terrorists. “Now they’re fighting the ‘Lebs’, as they call them, but I have a 1974 report by the council on problems between locals and so-called ‘wogs’ that talks about parochialism and racism,” she said. “Before that, the locals fought the ‘Bankies’. Really, it’s partly about protecting your territory from outsiders and sticking with your mates."

1974? When Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister? Let’s blame him!

Pardon my possible ignorance, but aren’t handguns banned in Australia? Or are they so heavily regulated that legal possession is more trouble than it’s worth?

  9. "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

I am not sure where the phrase originated, but I suspect it is from the National Rifle Association which protects gun owners’ rights in the U.S. Here in California, about twenty years ago, there was an attempt at a major gun grab by an anti-gun organization. They tried to get a ban introduced into legislation. This raised the hackles of literally hundreds of thousands of gun owners who put together an ad hoc organization called Gun Owners of California. Millions of dollars flowed in, and they were able to defeat the anti-gun lobby’s efforts. They (the gun grabbers) haven’t tried it since.

The black market in weapons is enormous and worldwide. They wouldn’t have that much trouble finding buyers in Oz I should think. Bans never completely stop the flow of black market items. Even people are smuggled into countries, for instance. You have to think: drugs are illegal and there’s plenty of drugs about. Why would guns not be?

Yep, that is exactly why many take the law in their own hands. The reason the police stay away is because they know that the Muslims will be set free by the court and the police will be blamed for racism. It is a Catch-22.

  15. Interesting phenomenon in these excerpts.  When the attackers are Middle Eastern, they are described simply as “men” of indeterminate race/nationality:

gangs of men rampaging through the beachside suburb.

cars carrying up to 50 men

Mobs of men have damaged a number of vehicles

police making arrests as mobs of men roam the streets

But when they are the ones being attacked, suddenly their status as Middle Eastern is made explicit:

Sunday’s mob attacks on Australians of Middle Eastern origin

a group of about 100 Cronulla locals surrounded a car carrying men of Middle Eastern appearance

Do they teach this stuff at journalism school?

Anti-Arab rioters smash cars, windows in Sydney

SYDNEY, Australia (AP)—Violence on the streets of Sydney spilled into a second night Monday, as scores of youths drove through beachside suburbs smashing windows of stores, homes and apartments, police said.

"We have shops damaged at Caringbah, cars damaged at Cronulla,” according to Paul Bugden, spokesman for New South Wales police. “We have six arrests at this stage.”

Bugden said he did not have descriptions of those involved in Monday night’s rampage, but said that clearly it was linked to Sunday’s rioting.

Okay, the headline clearly says anti-arab ie white folks are rampaging through the suburbs, then two paragraphs later they say they don’t know whose doing it.  Aren’t the Arabs doing this?  Is this sheer incompetence for reporting?

    1907

So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions “over yonder” of the war I know must come.
In the corner – not a vision – but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.
No – no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss –
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store

    Cornelius,
The reportage in the Daily Telegraph was much different from that of other media. They identify the violence by the Arabs

Hundreds of youths last night rampaged in Lakemba, while further trouble was brewing in Maroubra and again in Cronulla. A woman police officer was injured when more than 400 youths of Middle Eastern descent smashed cars and rioted at Lakemba mosque.

More than 30 police responded to reports Maroubra locals were stockpiling weapons on shop roofs and in Cronulla a man was bashed by a gang of youths of Middle Eastern appearance.

  33. Reading the letters section of The Age it appears that the whole rampage/riot at Cronulla was triggered by the beating of a couple of surf lifesavers, and this is proof that Australia is racist and there is an underlying ‘white supremacist’ feeling in ‘the Shire’, as the locals call it.
I am glad that more information has come out, even if it’s only a sprinkling here and at other sites, and in
Tim Priest’s latest article in today’s Australian.
The problem has been brewing for many years.
I have no idea how to fix this problem of disrespectful and defiant youths (and I am talking about the poor, hard-done by Lebanese Muslims who are always being picked on...), but it starts with the parents and with policing and punishing antisocial and violent behaviour.
Reportage of the riots in Cronulla and the southern beaches areas are terribly one-sided, and it’s the politcal correctness which shields the main offenders.
The Cronulla ‘surfie’ rioters would have been better served to soberly organise their anger and energy into a huge rally (my God, there were thousands of them!), to protest at the inept police handling of antisocial behaviour by visitors to their area which has been making it increasingly unpleasant for people to go to the beach (going to the beach is an Australian tradition), and at the disgusting behaviour of those that beat the life guards.

And if there had been a sober and non-violent protest by the Cronulla and Southern Beaches people I suppose I’d still hear Keysar Trad bleating about the racism an asking that the vilification laws be applied to these people…

One or two good letters in the Australian today, one in particular from Carl Robinson, Petrie, Qld letters, page 2, scroll down.. The rest of the letters on this subject will boil your blood. (They did mine!)

Indeed Channel Seven’s Today Tonight program explicitly did just that! It blamed the stabbing attack and rape threats on the Cronulla crowd. Meanwhile over at the ABC, instead of their 7:00pm news bulletin covering the latest event involving roaming cowardly Islamic thugs, it simply rehashed the much more convenient ‘white’ violence of the day before, as did the silly 7:30 Report.

  57. I haven’t said much on this issue...however I am really dissapointed the yobbo’s/bogans/whatever have had their drunken riot.  They have now given all the rape gangs an excuse to play the victims. That is the biggest crime that has happened, these barstards are now going to get a free run!
