Just another rowdy southern redneck shooting at things and resisting arrest. Southern France, that is:

An 81-year-old Frenchman has been given a one-year suspended jail sentence for firing a hunting rifle at helicopters dropping water on a forest blaze.

David Thiel opened fire on 21 July when the low-flying helicopters disturbed his afternoon nap near Grasse in the south of France, court sources said.

During his arrest the man swore at the policemen and hit them with saucepans.

Saucepans? Classy.

  1. Hopefully, the saucepans were those big metallic ones that make a huge ‘GOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGG!!!!’ noise when they hit somebody.

  8. No doubt he had to go home afterwards and explain to the women of the house what he did with the saucepans.  I imagine it wasn’t pretty.

  10. I will admit to having some cheese-eating-surrender-monkey cookware, but if you swung at somebody with it you’d get done for GBH if not attempted murder because it is cast iron and pretty heavy.

  13. This guy is old enough to have fought in WWII.  It’s possible (although I have no idea one way or the other) that he did shoot at Germans.
