<< DRIVE WELL, MARCOS ~ MAIN ~ QUESTION NATURALLY ARISES >>

TIPPING COMPETITION

Deadly Presbyterian-style violence seems to follow any offence taken by members of a certain religion. Consider:

* The Danish cartoon debacle: 139 killed.

* The Battle of Mount Flushmore (provoked by Newsweek): 15 killed.

* The Coptic collision of 2005: three killed.

How many might die following the Great Papal Provocation? Place your bets in comments.

  1. Let’s go for broke and say 500.  That’ll prove that those damn Presbyterians are peaceful and won’t be easily incited to violence if someone cites a 500-year old essay saying they’re easily incited to violence.

My migraine is back.  My brain can’t take that many trips between here and BizarroWorld.

  2. Depends how quick a backdown might be transmitted, or how rapidly this is publicised in middle eastern newspapers and fanned by the radicals, but you have to think over a hundred at least…

  5. I’ve heard far worse about my Catholic faith, to my face, from my friends, than what apparently justifies murder if said to some about Islam.

No shit. A girlfriend’s best friend said I was going to hell, because I was raised Catholic. Not, apparently, because I was no longer either a believer or a church-goer.

As for the body count: 2,000. At least 1,500 of them Muslim.

  7. #6 is getting warmer, I think.

Maybe not on the body count but on the religion at least. The people who die here are not going to be Catholics, Newsweek reporters or anyong else - they will be Muslims caught in the crossfire of other Muslims.

  12. Unfortunately, the dead may be mostly Christians this time. Since infidels are slaughtered all the time in those parts of the world, the final number depends on the day you start and stop counting.

Bonus question: How many will die as a result of Centanni and Wiig renouncing their forced conversion? Which must happen any day now.

  21. See those TV images of the ‘seething Arab street’ ranting and raving about the Pope’s comments? Placards, slogans, burning effigies? Now, hold that image in your head.

Now picture such a protest in the streets of Sydney, perhaps outside the Lakemba mosque, but this time the mob protesting against Islamic extremism and terrorism, burning effigies of Osama bin laden, or of some local radical Imam for instance.

Now when our Federal leaders say they would like to see so-called moderate Islam condemning extremism and terrorism, perhaps that’s the sort of demonstration of where they stand that they are talking about.

  31. Keep in mind that we are talking about hardcore cowards here. So many gutless and jelly backed human beings as who ever crawled across God’s earth. People who wouldn’t throw a stick at an angry corgi unless they were in a crowd. Men who provide a fresh definition to the term “yellow”.

Naturally they will pick on anything or anybody they perceive to be weak. They will form a gang to bash a little country, like Denmark, with only a little prodding from their bosses. Thrashing around in their bloodlust, a certain number will be trampled by the mob. Mainly themselves, but some innocent bystanders as well.

The Pope might not have many Divisions. But these people are superstitious ignoramuses straight out of the dark age. My guess is they will perceive him to be too powerful to take on head on, and this thing will blow over quickly without too many casualties.

Either that or they will blow up the Vatican.

  32. I confess to an advanced case of ennui when it comes to Muslims rioting and dying over perceived slights to the ROP, but this one has the potential of taking a bunch of Christians down with it. On the whole, however, I agree with Geoff.

  39. So Muslims are angry. Ok!

IS the threat of violence then acceptable.

What were to happen if Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Agnostic and Aetheists were to go on murderous, violent protests?

    When would it end?

At what point is the response of fundamentalist Islamists just confirming the accusation made against Islam in general.

    One Iranian Islamic leader responded:

“Unfortunately pope (sic) has insulted Islam, accusing the justice seeking, peace-loving and humanitarian Islam to be violent and war- monger and claiming that jihad in Islam is the same as violence; and he claims that contrary to christianity wisdom has no room in Islam. “

How can people, who are smart, courteous, and cultured believe in something which is just an exaggerated cult.
