TIP OF THE REPUBLICAN GAYBERG
Dr Howard Dean—with an assist from Iowahawk—reaches out to non-Democrats:
We would like to take this opportunity to start a dialog with you, the conservative “values voter,” by addressing an issue of vital importance to all of us — the growing Republican homo menace.
If’n you ain’t clicked already, click now.
UPDATE. In other US political developments: vote for Meryl Yourish!
UPDATE II. Natalie Solent predicts:
The Democrats will gain control of the House of Representatives more narrowly than most people think. Scarcely any change in the Senate.
I think she might be on the money. Then again, my election predictions are notoriously glum and wayward.
Sweet Jesus! Half my lunch is now on my keyboard. I gotta learn not to read Iowahawk with food in my mouth.
And that thunmbnail of Howie Dean: just what is HE planning on doing with his finger??
Posted by Tex Lovera on 2006 10 19 at 12:40 PM • permalinkI’ll be voting on election day, too. Of course, I live in Rahm Emmanuel’s district in Illinois, where voting for a Republican brings new meaning to the word “futility”. But if all those people in Iraq and Afghanistan can risk their lives to vote, then the least I can do is cast a ballot as well.

“Dick Armey”? You do the math.
Pure Iowahawk gold.
We won’t be home on election day so are voting absentee (although on the one hand I’ll be glad to be far removed from all the hub-bub, I will miss the opportunity to watch lefty heads exploding on the 8th should the Dems fall short). My Republican congressional representative doesn’t need my vote to win, so he won’t be getting it because I don’t like him (no one in that particular race gets my vote). I’m not casting a vote for Governor either (Ahnold also doesn’t need my vote to win). And, God’s honest truth, I don’t even know who the GOP has running against Senator Feinstein. California Republicans consistently put up the most pathetic Senate candidates imaginable—they can’t even come up with someone who can beat that idiot Barbara Boxer.
I haven’t got a clue where all the chips will end up falling, but I’m not so sure that the Dems should count on the apathetic, sit-this-one-out conservative voter. Take a look at this Lucianne comment thread. Lucianne’s regular commenters are by and large conservative and many are associated with the religious right. They consider this election to be of the “broken glass” variety. Rush Limbaugh of late has been pounding pretty hard on “cut ‘n run” Republicans. I think that when push finally comes to shove, the GOP base will rally because if they don’t, the result will be too horrible to even contemplate. At least I hope so.
Posted by Kyda Sylvester on 2006 10 19 at 01:33 PM • permalinkGotta keep control of the House. Senators are too full of their own self-importance to put forward legislation for the good of the country, because they confuse their own good with the good of the country.
Still, even if the Dems get a 10 seat majority in the House, there are a good many who represent conservative districts (like Gene Taylof) for the moonbats to go completely wild. I would expect that at least five or six members of the House Democratic caucus would regularly cross over and vote with Republicans on issues of real importance.
I’m with Urbs essentialy. I will be voting absentee. My vote won’t change any races for sure. Gov is a lock. Senate is a lock. I can’t vote early and often enough to overcome my little Che-lite Rep.
But I am not a cut and run conservative!! Too many people have put too much on the line for me just to sit and do nothing.
I’m seriously considering sending a little missive to Howie entitled;
DIDN’T WORK. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!
Hey, Urbs in Horto, lil’ Rahm is my rep, too. (It could be worse - we could have Red Jan Schakowsky). And yes, between him and Governor Hairhelmet, voting does seem like a fool’s errand.
However, I will be trudging out to cast my ballot against these nimrods (or, in the likely case of Dem candidates running unopposed, just leaving the ballot blank). I’m a big believer that if you don’t vote, you can’t bitch.

1. Personally I’m not voting Republican this election because the Republicans haven’t earned my vote. If they want my vote then they need to actually do their frigging jobs.
2. Gayberg? ROFLMAO!Posted by memomachine on 2006 10 19 at 02:46 PM • permalinkDon’t be glum! The Democrats won’t take control of either house. Here ars two reasons:
1) Dick Morris says they will
2) This election would be a golden opportunity for a real political party, but we’re talking about the Democrats.
Posted by tim maguire on 2006 10 19 at 02:51 PM • permalinkIf the Democrats do win a majority, we can look forward to such adventures as having Alcee Hastings as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee.
91B30, could we then change the name to the House Non-Intelligence Committee?

People in downtown office (as well as many others) are quite pissed off about this. Another reason to vote for Yourish rather than Allen or Webb.
Tim: Prime Minister Latham thinks the world of your electoral predictions.

I’m staying home on election day because I need to replace the Confederate Flag on my pickup truck.
