THE JERICHO EFFECT
A few weeks ago blogger Mike Jericho brought to Australia’s attention that certain Google maps may present a security risk. Mike has since seen results.
“It doesn’t stop somebody who’s determined to get the information getting it, but having it on the internet just makes it so much more readily available. We don’t want to provide any easy assistance to anyone who wants to interfere with the site.”
So the determined terrorists will get the information (a map) anyway however it will impede those who may decide to blow up a nuclear reactor just on a whim, as we sometimes do.
On the subject how’s this for a google map

Bagram airfield, Afghanistan. Saw this posted on some other board.
Google Maps also lists Jerusalem as “Yerushalayim”, the Arabic name for it.
I’m not sure why, but New York city isnt referred to as New Amsterdam. Maybe I’m just paranoid.
#7 the Arabic name for Jerusalem is Al-Quds.
Yerushalayim is how the Hebrew name for the town is pronounced.
Since biblical names have been filtered through Greek and Latin on their way to English, many of the ‘sh’ sounds became ‘s’ and the ‘y’ sounds became ‘j’.
Joshua and Jesus derive from the same Hebrew name.
I have a feeling that would-be terrorists, who have access to explosives that you can’t buy at the local shop, probably the access to even better photos than you’ll find on google.

Too kind.
Many thanks also to Tim, the Blogfather, for linkage.

It’s siding with Bin Laden over Pilger.
#17 If you click on the link it says “Dili, Timor-Leste”
Timor Leste = East Timor in Portugese, the official language of the country.
However, if you try Google Earth, it still has “Propinsi Timor Timur”, which is the Indonesian name.
