THE GAMBLER

Margo Kingston makes a bet:

I bet a colleague $100 bucks today that Howard would retire by December 31. He talks the talk alright, but the talk is a lie.

Margo—whose own talk is sensationally unreliable—really should review her gambling history:

A prediction. Vanstone will resign or be moved before June 30. I’m poor now, so I’ll put $50 on the table.

  1. Margo just did a double down on dumb.

Erh, why would she want Howard to retire?

She’s up to betting a $100 bucks so obviously the Howard’s re-election has been very, very good to her-cripes she even has a colleague now.

Hey what other bets is her colleague taking?  That guy knows a sucker when he sees one.

  2. I have to ask but I’m afraid to look.  What POSSIBLE reason is there for Howard even to think of retiring?

  3. You always win in the end if you double up on a losing bet unless you run out your credit rating ; moreover betting has the social virtue of heading off altercation.
I assume she was in a pub.

  5. Sounds to me like she’s got a gambling problem.  How long before she starts losing the rent money?

  6. Considering Howard now has the biggest lead over Beazley since 1996, I think I’d be more pointing the finger at Kimmy-boy to pack it all in.

Really, I bet Margo would be there in 1951 saying, “Menzies may talk the talk, but he’s going to retire at any time.”

  7. Maybe Margo is near-broke and she’s trying to play the long odds now with what little money she has left.
