THE ENGLISH PATIENT

Details emerge of the attempted London bombing:

The London bomb plot allegedly planned by a cell of doctors failed early last Friday morning because a medical syringe used as part of the firing mechanism caused a malfunction, ABC News has learned.

Somewhere in England a patient is wandering around with a detonator in his arm.

  7. Let’s face it. Islamists know best.

They’re here to take control and lead us to the afterworld.

So it’s up to us to help them with the science to get the job done. Telephony, electronics, hydraulics, ballistics… basic stuff like that.

These people are frustrated, neglected and oppressed, don’t you see. Through the centuries, they’ve been shoved around from fairytale kingdom to dwindling desert caliphate. The genie in the magic lamp grants fewer wishes of glorious conquest as time goes by and now, sadly, they have only their own women as slaves.

They are the unwitting victims of a harsh existential reality.

Come on guys, isn’t there anything we can do to help them bridge the gap between here and paradise?

  13. 45 Muslim doctors planned US terror raids

“The first target which will be penetrated by nine brothers is the naval base which gives shelter to the ship Kennedy.” This is thought to have been a reference to the USS John F Kennedy, which is often at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Florida.

  17. Déjà vu, honestly, I’ve heard of exactly this same thing happening some time ago. A very young girl sat in a swimming pool or spa intake chamber and suffered the same kind of intestinal injury.

From what I see of pools everywhere here in Australia, the skimmer intakes are all the same design. A child would have to muck around, unwatched, for some good time to get in a position like that.

We do our best to teach them all to swim by that age. Even so, a six year old could just plain drown in the deep end of a pool without adequate supervision, just as quickly.

As a parent of two kids about the same age, I don’t presume that anybody else will keep an eye on them anyplace… at home, in the shopping centre or as they paddle out in the surf.

It certainly pays to wary with all that goes on, child molestations, kidnappings, rapes, abuse, accidents and on and on.

Going to an extreme in anything, could also have effects that aren’t exactly what parent or child would want, though.

  52. Here’s a quote from another Telegraph article linked from the one mentioned by El Cid in post #13.

    Telegraph

During his time in Cambridge he was also linked to the radical Muslim group Hizb ut-Tahir. Shiraz Maher, a former member of the group, said: “He was certainly very angry about what was happening in Iraq. He supported the insurgency. He loudly cheered the deaths of British and American troops. But to say it was just all about Iraq or foreign policy is mistaken. It feeds off a much wider ideological infrastructure.” (my bold)

As much as the Left would like to believe things are about Iraq and only Iraq (and poor oppressed people), it’s simply not the case.  The problem is much bigger and much more general.  It’s an ideological conflict and the Islamists want a society that is the antithesis of what we in the West, including the Left, see as natural and right - one that includes personal freedom, tolerance, womens’ rights, religious freedom, etc., etc.  The Left can go to their graves believing it’s just about the war but if they’re not careful and they are too successful at undermining the defense of Western values they may go to those graves much quicker than they expect.

    More from the article:

The brothers were born and raised in Bangalore, a city at the forefront of India’s economic emergence. Bangalore’s embrace of western values, has proved fertile ground for radical imams who prefer to preach hatred rather than the Koran.

As I said, it’s an ideological conflict.  It’s about values and not about any particular war.  They want a society that we don’t want and they want to supplant ours with theirs.

And here’s a bit about the guy arrested on his way out of Australia:

He also received his medical degree from the same university in 2002, after studying as part of an affirmative action programme for Muslims and lower castes.

Maybe an interest in healing and helping people would be a better criteria for admitting students to medical school.

    Absobloodylutely.

Affirmative action? Ensuring the right racial/religious balance? Rubbish. Ability and ‘smarts’ should be the criteria.

  54. Call me crazy but I’ve had a theory ever since I saw the pictures of the 19 hihackers from 9/11 that perhaps looks plays some role in this whole thing.  I admit I don’t know what standards of male attractiveness apply in the Middle East, but every time I see pictures (example, from link above) of these guys I’m struck by how homely (and/or straight out ugly) they all seem to look.  Are they alienated “youths” because they’ve been ignored or looked down on their whole lives?  It’s probably hard enough getting a woman over there for most guys but maybe they’ve had more than their fair share of trouble.  Being hardcore Islamists might be a compensation to help them feel superior.  They can derive some sort of power over others that way and feel important.  I knew guys in college who were “activists” more for the power it gave them than any sincere and humble devotion to the cause.

It seems his preference after finishing school was to follow his parents into medicine. Dad’s a specialist doctor/dentist specialising in head cancers and Mum’s a psychiatrist. Guess what. After securing the highest possible matriculation results he failed to enter medicine. More proof the angels of the left at Adelaide Uni don’t want the gifted kids of the elite to do medicine. He would have made the world’s best medico.
