<< AUSTRALIA WINS ~ MAIN ~ ENVIRONMENTALISTS HORRIFIED >>

THANKS FOR THE LUPUS

Australia is exposed to bulb sickness:

The Federal Government may be forced to rethink a ban on old-style bulbs after claims the energy saving alternative can trigger migraines and epileptic attacks.

Peter Garrett endorses the new epilepti-lights. Explains a lot.

A leading British migraine body has claimed eco-bulbs worsen the symptoms of migraines, epilepsy and the auto-immune disease lupus.

Sounds scientific. Those whose homes have become infested with these glowing disease orbs should rip them from their sockets and throw them at a Prius. Cautiously.

  1. The light they give off is nasty and unnatural looking as well. It’s almost as bad as fluorescent lighting.

  2. Some dummy here in Maine broke one of these bulbs. Concerned about the impact of the mercury, she (try not to laugh your asses off here) called the State government for advice in properly cleaning it up. They sent a Hazmat team. And charged her $2000.

    “We’re the government, and we’re here to help.” She got what she deserved for calling them.

  3. Heh, Dave!  I’ll add that to the long list of reasons why I never call the government for help.

  4. We have gradually been replacing our old bulbs with these new-fangled twisty little devils because we thought they would last longer.  Imagine our dismay when we learned that they are mercury-filled, environment-killing deathbombs, something the greenie propaganda failed to mention.

    As they die, I’m resigned to interring them in doubled plastic bags for the landfill.  And I will point this out loudly to any greenie who dares open his/her mouth in my presence, and then I’ll ask them what their plan is for removing mercury from the soil and groundwater.

  5. I have been gradually putting them in at my place for the electricity and convienience (don’t have to replace as often).

    That said, I do find it annoying that:
    * the light it gives out is sickly for a while;
    * it is a sickly colour;
    * even after a while the light is pretty weak unless you buy up around the 20 watt level.  At that level it is a harsh, glaring white light that requires along bulb that no longer fits in your light fittings, so that you have to replace them as well.  in fact I have that problem even with a 14 watt globe.

  6. I thought Rudd told Garrett to keep his mouth shut on warm-mongering issues?

    What’s he doing in an advert?

  7. Pardon my ignorance, but where do halogen down lights fit into the scheme of green lights?  From what I can figure out, they give out a good light for Ma, without having any redeeming environmental qualities, except they do not contain mercury.

    Also, we have a lot of salt lamps which use sewing machine bulds (15W, SES fitting) which would be hard to replace with a CFL.

  8. The lightbulb ban was stupidity incarnate: flourescents are NOT suitable for all purposes (the blue-spectrum and UV output is a nightmare if you’re photosensitive for any reason) and where they ARE suitable people are already using them (I’ve had one in for 3 years, never changed- now THAT’S convenience!)

  9. It is flourescent lighting and looks really awful unless you choose the “warm white”. Those useful prats who hand them out on street corners for “carbon credit” karma will not be there to carefully dispose of the heavy metals when the lights conk out.

  10. This might explain Garrett’s style of dance.
