TARGET MISSED

Labor leader Kim Beazley recently announced he’d sign the Kyoto Protocol, were he ever given the chance. How has that protocol worked out in Japan, where the stupid thing was drafted?

Japan’s greenhouse gas emissions rose 0.6 percent in the fiscal year to March as oil consumption for heating climbed, taking it further from its Kyoto Protocol target to cut pollution, the government said on Tuesday.

Japan’s Environment Ministry said preliminary data showed emission of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), were 1.364 billion tonnes in the fiscal year, reversing a slight decline in 2004-2005 and 14.1 percent above its Kyoto target.

That’ll cost. Add Japan to Germany and New Zealand as Kyoto dupes.

  1. Australia’s collective CO2 emissions would drop by approximately 37% the instant the front bench of the Federal ALP shut their gaping maws.

  2. CB, aren’t you being a tad conservative in your estimate?

  6. Can’t be bothered finding a link, but I think Australia went very close to meeting its “Kyoto targets” last year, even though we didn’t sign the bloody thing.  Of course this positive is overlooked by those who condem HoWARd for not signing Kyoto.

  7. In Howard’s interview on 18 Doughty Street he explains that Australia has met the Kyoto targets set for it - and noted how states that had signed up had failed to achieve theirs.

  8. I think you can add Canada to the dupes - they went over as well. They have a similar problem to us in that with the mineral boom, more mines open up and boy do they chew through the juice.

For example the big Cadia mine uses about 1% of NSW electricity consumption. No wonder the lights dim every time that big bruiser SAG mill of theirs is kicked in the guts. Its all good.

  9. #4 - This is what I laser-print on the back of envelopes, especially those going to Government departments:

This envelope proudly produced from chlorine-bleached pulp sourced from old-growth forest waste. Warranted virgin material.  Contains no recycled waste matter.

  10. Kim and the rest of the moonbat coalition need to see the Kyoto Proctologist.
They have something fairly useless up their orifice that needs to be expunged.

  11. My estimate was very conservative. The Lancet puts it at well over 655000% drop in hot air pollutants.

  12. Labor leader Kim Beazley recently announced he’d sign the Kyoto Protocol, were he ever given the chance.

To have any chance of meeting the Kyoto targets, Beazley would have to give up his cabbage soup diet.

  13. For a certain class of tranz-progressive politicians and international bureaucrats, adopting the right attitudes and poses—to the applause of the media, bien pensant opinion and others like them—has replaced action as a sign of virtue.

It hasn’t been about actually doing anything for quite some time.  Soothing words and good intentions are what count.

Maybe Kim hasn’t heard.  You’re not given that chance, you have to earn it.
