STRAIGHT LINE COGENTLY DRAWN
Leftoids love Venezuelan supergoon Hugo Chavez for all sorts of reasons, among them his awareness of crucial global warming issues:
Chavez cogently draws a straight line between global warming to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina; the first major city lost because from rising ocean temperatures. He deftly connects the tragedy to the neoliberal economic model which continues to thrust the world in a catastrophic direction.
So, how is Hugo fighting global warmenizing in Venezuela? According to reports from a car show in Caracas, he isn’t:
"Everyone wants to buy a 4-by-4,” said Jose Moreno, a 49-year-old businessman examining Fords at the show Saturday. “And since gasoline is cheap, you don’t think twice about spending on that."
Venezuelans see cheap fuel as a birthright. Filling up an SUV’s tank with high-octane gasoline costs roughly $3—less than two jugs of drinking water.
And as oil exports have boosted the economy, the country has experienced a boom in auto sales, including large four-wheel drives that have lost appeal elsewhere as fuel costs have soared.
Alaskans shun the cogent and deft Venezuelan.
What a weenie. I could go around connecting things that don’t belong connected with other things—MFM draws a straight line between all-beef hot dogs and the Suez Crisis! MFM connects Spotted Owl disappearance to Paco Industries!—but I’d be either a crank or a Monty Python sketch.
“Gentlemen, on my way here tonight, I saw no fewer than 14 things that were not connected to other things...and nor, nor I say, were other things connected—in any way!—to them!”
Cries of “Shame!” and “Boo!” and “Down with Paco!"
Chavez oratory to the General Assembly will undoubtedly elevate him in the eyes of many as a serious futurist who offers genuine solutions for a war-ravaged planet. His personal fortitude and optimism are matched by his selfless conduct as President; working persistently on behalf of his people and strengthening global relations. His iconic image around the world is well deserved.
I would comment, but I have to go wash the moonbat guano out of my hair.

So stop selling oil dipshit, cuz that causes greenhouse gasses according to your ideology!
Hey leftoids: If George Bush selling oil is the “root of all evil”, isn’t Chavez selling oil at least the “twig of inconvenience”?

Bob, Paco here. Say we have discontinued “Spotted Owl Be-Gone”, haven’t we? Uh-huh. Last order went out to a logging company in Oregon? June, 2003? Ok, fine. Just checking. Oh, while I’ve got you on the line: are we still moving those “Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Motels”? We may have a glitch in the product; somebody found a live one down in Arkansas someplace.
Hmmm.
Life in Venezuala is going to be interesting when that country runs out of oil. With the oil business nationalized by Chavez and run by inexperienced cronies it’s doubtful if it’ll last for the long term. In addition because of the nationalization of private oil assets nobody will want to invest the billions of dollars necessary to explore and operate any future oil fields.
Basically Venezuala is burning capital, not profits.

Ever noticed how hard it is sometimes to distinguish between a noble leftist people and us filthy exploitative Westerners?
Cheap petrol as a birthright. Get down there, Mr Gore, and tell these Venezuelans what’s what.Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 10 10 at 08:50 PM • permalinkI would think that straight line between global warming and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina would go on and connect to all of the devastating hurricanes to hit the US in 2006. Oh shit, what happened? I thought it was conventional wisdom (after all, global warming is now proven)that the hurricanes would be more frequent & devastating.
And maybe I missed something - rising ocean levels wiped out New Orleans? I thought it was because the part that was wiped out was below sea level and a few old, poorly designed & maintained levees failed? Oh I forgot, Karl Rove & George put on their diving suits & blew them up.
The US contributes 22% of the UN budget. How much does Venezuala contribute?
"The President’s budget contains a request for the United States to provide a $1.2 billion loan to the United Nations for renovation of its headquarters complex in New York City. The proposed loan would be repayable over thirty years with an interest rate of 5.5 percent. Since all UN member states would be responsible for repayment of the loan, the United States would be responsible for paying its share, or 22 percent, of the repayment costs.”
They have some real fiscal wizards up there in Washington.

Never fear, there’s an explanation:

“Chavez cogently draws a straight line between global warming to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina; the first major city lost because from rising ocean temperatures. He
deftlytrenchantly connects the tragedy to the neoliberal economic model which continues to thrust the world in a catastrophic direction.”At least Lefties should be able to write.

That Global Research article is something. Mike Whitney practically foams at the mouth. The MSM is “right-ward tilting”?
“the first major city lost because from rising ocean temperatures.” He also doesn’t watch much TV. Lately I’ve seen from N’orlins, where I lived for a couple of years, the following: major sporting events; a interesting story on how the Army Corps of Engineers is working to strengthen the levees with new construction models; a story about Tulane University in N.O.; and cooking shows (kayjoan kookin’ is still uh-hunh good, cher) to mention a few. I guess no one told them they were lost. And the government still keeps giving them money to rebuild on sea-level mud flats. What a country.
I think Mike Whitney ought to go live in Venezuela, if he is so enamoured of it. That way he can personally experience both Lord Acton’s and Mr Burke’s assertions as they come to pass.
