SON DECLINES TO RISE

A big media development:

News Corporation deputy chief operating officer Lachlan Murdoch has resigned his position as one of the world’s most powerful media executives and will move from New York to Australia.

News chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch announced last night that his eldest son had decided to resign from his executive roles.

This’ll shake things up.

  6. 4. From what I’ve always heard, Lachlan’s competence and diligence are unquestioned, the OneTel thing being a mistake but over-enthusiasm for IT&T assets was certainly not unique to him in the late 90’s

    5. He is a solid conservative, more so than his trendy left brother James, so it’s all a shame, I think. Perhaps he’ll be back but I doubt it

  11. Imagine how Kerry Packer would react if James did the same thing . . . analysts have been saying for years that News Corporations share price is discounted by the prospect of Lachlan, James or Elizabeth taking over.

  12. Elisabeth is the smartest one of the lot—apart from her unfortunate first marriage to the son of some African diplomat. Even that was worth it for the picture of Murdoch at the wedding, surrounded by his new in-laws in leopard skin traditional dress. Anyway she dumped Bongo and married one of the Freuds—leading James to remark in his wedding speech that the groom had better be well endowed because his sister was accustomed to a black man!

Can’t find a photo on the Web, but if anyone has a link they should post it. The look on LRM’s face is priceless. He couldn’t look more embarrassed if someone had mistook him for Fred Hilmer.

  20. #15 Crash, wasn’t it interesting that one of the London tube bombers was a teacher’s aide (?) who had special experience in ‘anti-bullying workshops’?  Is it just my imagination, or does this kind of nanny-state crap have a strange attraction for violent psychotics?  Apparently he was particularly keen on acting out the role of the bully.  It’s the old joke: a man is brutally mugged and left lying in the gutter - a social worker rushes up and exclaims, “Quick, somebody get help for the poor man who did this”.

  25. Ok, a little tenuous, believe what you will. Got this info today.

I have a friend (lucky me), who has a mother (now there is a surprise), who has a friend who is also a friend of Lachlan’s wife.

The message travelling down this bit of the grapevine is that the story about Murdoch Junior wanting to spend more time with his family is substantially the truth.

  36. Gruntled,
Don’t!  Do you really think the moonbats need your help imagining inane conspiracy theories?  Besides, in the absence of any other inspiration they can always fall back on blaming it on the Jews, a sort of zero-energy point accusation for quantum conspiracism.

    Watch out for them bananas.
