SLOW PURSUIT IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY

A car chase with a modern twist:

A 58-year-old Airmont man was being treated at a hospital last night after he led police on a chase in two counties, state police said.

The pursuit from Westchester County, across the Tappan Zee Bridge and into Rockland County ended after the man rammed his 2004 Prius into a cruiser, narrowly missing a trooper who had stepped out to arrest him, police said.

What next? Faye Dunaway and a Prius starring in Bonnie and Climate Change?

UPDATE. In other motoring developments:

The European Union’s environment commissioner has urged Germany to impose speed limits on the nation’s highways as part of the fight against global warming ...

Killjoy bastards.

  2. Not likely that it was a high speed pursuit.

  4. Probably a suicide attempt.  He found out what it would cost to replace the battery pack, and decided to commit “suicide by cop”.

  6. Speed limits in Germany? Now we’ll see just how serious they are about “climate change.” The speed limit thing has come up before, and would get responses like “being forced to lower our speed would psychologically damage German children.” For a bunch of supposed order-fanatics Germans love being able to go as fast as they want on the autobahn. (Then again, there’s this joke: how do find a queue in Germany? Look for the crowd in front of the door.)

I’m currently in post-production for a global-warming-aware remake of the Keanu Klassic “Speed”. Now it’s called “Efficiency”, and it’s about a bus that, if it does more than 50mph, will cause the ozone layer to explode.

Susan Sarandon directed. She is such a beautiful human being.

  8. Good grief, what were the coppers on if they had to chase this clown in a Prius over two counties? Pushbikes? Ello, Ello - right, gotcha, come with me young man.

  9. Interesting.  When a Prius is involved in a crime or horrific accident, the media assigns it a human aspect.  But let the vehicle be an SUV and the damn things have minds of their own and an unmistakeably evil intent.

Exactly. I’m sure the Prius was a victim.

  11. I wouldn’t want to be a German cop trying to enforce speed limits on the autobahn.  What a nightmare.

  13. The Prius only made it to the second county because the cops couldn’t stop laughing.

  14. Well, the speed limit on the Tapan Zee Bridge is something like 40 or 45 mph—so even exceeding the limit is not exactly going fast.

  15. I have a fast conspicuous car, and a transmission problem became apparent at a stoplight last Thursday.  I intended to waste the Prius next to me to get over to make the next turn, easy pickins.  The transmission faulted and I got wasted by a Prius.  Those cops should hang their heads in shame!  They should have been able to catch that guy with borrowed paleteria carts, while selling a respectable amount of ice cream the whole time.  Wussmobile.
