SHOUTY MARXISTS

Democracy’s enemies are disrupting Iraq’s election—in Australia:

A Sydney polling booth for Iraqis voting in their country’s historic election was shut down for an hour today after a punch-up involving protesters and a subsequent bomb scare.

Organiser of Australia’s overseas voting program, Bernie Hogan, said the fight erupted when a group of around 20 protesters started yelling at voters leaving the Auburn centre.

“They were on one side of the road protesting against the election while voters were coming out proudly with ink on their hands,” Mr Hogan said.

Here’s one of the protesters. Check the t-shirt. More:

Mr Hogan said [the protesters] were holding the same black flag with white lettering that has appeared as a backdrop in videos released by Iraqi insurgents featuring foreign hostages.

International Organisation for Migration Iraqi adviser Thair Wali said the protesters’ flag and Arabic slogans identified them as Wahabis, or followers of an austere brand of Sunni Islam practised mostly in Saudi Arabia.

Mr Wali said the fight was sparked by protesters taking photographs of voters leaving the station.

  1. “Mr Hogan said they were holding the same black flag with white lettering that has appeared as a backdrop in videos released by Iraqi insurgents featuring foreign hostages begging for their lives.”

I hope someone at ASIO is filing photos of these people.

  2. Who let them come here? Are there more of them coming?
What is your local member doing about it?

  3. That’s voter intimidation.  I don’t know how Australian laws apply to this situation (being a polling station for an Iraqi election, and not an Australian election), but it’s clearly voter intimidation.

It’s also clear just which way these “protestors” lean.  I’m surprised they aren’t brandishing choras.

The Marianas Trench sounds like a good place for them.

As close to Satan as you can get.

Ms Vanstone, you have my full support.

  8. Maybe the Karl Marx devotee with the red flag isn’t a protester at all but an Iraqi Communist Party supporter trying to drum up votes but standing too near the protesters. As for the black flag mob, who apparently support exploding car bombs near Australian soldiers, only the useful idiots will excuse what they’ve done, and I’m sure we’ll hear from them soon.

  9. Sheriff, the Marianas Trench at its deepest point (Challenger Deep) is over 35,000 feet deep.

Which doesn’t invalidate your suggestion in any way.

  10. Look at the way “our” ABC plays down the story:

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200501/s1291819.htm

No mention of voter intimidation via photographing at all.  Typical.

It’s not even in their Top Stories list, but the latest Iraq gloom n doom piece from Reuters is given top billing of course.

  11. Um Kick their ass?

Thats the way we do it here in California.

Since your already reporting the incident I guess it’s too late for my suggestion to reach the proper parties.

    Pity.

They won’t leave…it equates to a cancer. It must be cut out and the rest irradiated, out of existence.
They adore the freedom they have, in fact they like it so much, they want it all for themselves.
We have the same ‘pond scum’, in the States. We’re pushing for a hunting season on them.

Just who are these people?  Saudis?  Iraq Baathists?  Communists?  Whatever, seems they’re very disturbed by the idea of a free Iraqi election.  You’d think their particular philosophy was being, I don’t know, threatened by the idea of a free Iraqi election.

  16. Since the voters apparently went for them with enthusiasm, I think the whole intimidation angle isn’t working out quite as planned…

  17. Let me get this straight - Australian soldiers are being targetted in Iraq by a jihad motivated enemy. Yet in downtown Sydney, supporters of this jihad outfit are protesting under the flag of those jihaddis attempting to kill our troops. Huh ?

Are we at war or not ? Where is the government on this ? For fucks sake, send in the troops and take these sympathisers out ! They are enemies of Australia, surely.

  19. A hunting season on these people. Where do I sign-up?  We’ll need a lottery on this due to the large demand.  Maybe we can issue a stamp ala the duck stamp?  Heh,this could be fun! Its M1911 time.
