SHOUTS UNDAMPENED

Gaia, you prankster, you:

It snowed, but they still came. A heavy snowfall blanketed a global warming protest outside the State House in Annapolis this morning, but it did not dampen the shouts of about 400 activists who urged lawmakers to pass the nation’s toughest greenhouse gas control law ...

Click for the usual shot of freezing warmenists. Meanwhile, Global Warming is a winner at Canterbury.

UPDATE. The Daily Telegraph’s Garry Linnell enjoys global warming in China:

The bill is co-sponsored by Democratic Delegate Kumar Barve, who is apparently Chairman of the Committee of Driving While Inspired (Wikipedia: “On November 29th, 2007, Barve was arrested in Gaithersburg and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He had a blood alcohol level of .10, which is above the state’s legal limit. Delegate Luiz Simmons, an attorney and fellow Democrat from Montgomery County, said he will serve as Barve’s lawyer in the case. Barve has supported stricter laws against drunken driving”).

But it’s ok! He was just overcome by the ethanol fumes coming from a leaky fuel line in his car! Probably!

  50. So –

18 legislators walked down a symbolic green carpet to sign up as co-sponsors to a bill that would mandate that all businesses in Maryland cut emissions of global warming pollution by 25 percent by 2020 and 90 percent by 2050.

Now let’s get that right – the story doesn’t mean emissions of global warming pollution because that would mean no cuts.  They are of course talking about cuts in CO2 emissions which do nothing towards warming or cooling.

But although the whole AGW creed is ludicrous, over in Europe where the idiots do run the asylum, the EU has started to impose conditions to systematically destroy their economy. This article from the Financial Times tells the story that a new law to cut emission allocations on 2005 levels by 21 percent between 2013 and 2020 for the booming steel sector will cause that sector to relocate offshore within a decade.

    Now isn’t that nice.  [/sarcasm]

  57. #44 Killaette - great news!

#50 Wand - thanks for the link to the FT story.  You’re right about the idiots running the asylum in the EU.  My eyes popped a little bit when I saw it read -

We are not destroying industries. It is about innovation and moving forward. Industries will have to adapt in the light of climate change and global competition

What a great example of Europeans’ unique belief in their own indispensability.  One wonders if they have a backup plan if industry adapts all the way to India or China.  Somehow, there’s some belief that just being European entitles one to live in an economy of ones choosing.

In that vein, if you want some inflammatory fun, try wandering over to the discussion boards on independence at The Scotsman.  You can get all sorts of hilariously demented responses by pointing out that, despite the recurring fantasy about that country’s automatic propserity, Scottish independence is about as economically sustainable as a career stuffing piranhas up your arse.

I know that last bit wasn’t especially on topic, but believe me: give it a go.  It’s fun, even if you are being a troll.

I guess the only benefit to the story out of Maryland (and did the number of typoes give anyone else the shits?) is that hopefully it serves as an object lesson to the rest of the US about embracing the AGW fantasy.  Pretty crappy for those that have to live within it though.

The answer to this is simple… it would be No simply because no alternative would be brooked.  Such is the way of demagogues, ideologues and fools, i.e., the new European Soviet.

However, we shouldn’t laugh to quickly because our new Krudd08 (morphed from 07) is rapidly moving to design and implement an emissions trading scheme (energy rationing) and have it operational within two years! It took the EUSSR longer than that.  Mandatory emissions reporting will be required by mid 2008 with ‘certificates’ being surrendered two years later.  It will be interesting to see how Krudd08 placates industry in the years ahead as he imposes restrictions on their activities.

But, wait there’s more ... across the nation apart from the fact that we are not building new power stations, approval will only be given to new gas fired power stations [because of the AGW mantra that has been adopted by all State Labor governments].  And by squeezing out any new low cost coal fired power station, the deregulated electricity market will push up the price of electricity (electricity generated from gas costs two to three times electricity from coal) and Australia’s competitive advantage of low cost coal fired electricity will be destroyed.  And this is happening right now - with electricity prices expected to double in the near future. [In fact already one of my clients has had his electricity cost doubled under new supply arrangements and the additional costs are counted in the $ millions].  To put this into perspective, China adds the equivalent of the entire Australian electricity grid to its network every six months, the majority of which is coal fired.

So folks, it looks like Krudd08 will rapidly move Australia down the same EU slippery slope.

And if anyone wanted confirmation of following the EU agenda, this story from today’s SMH says Krudd08 is to shake up national security.  Yeah sure - threats to the nation will be redefined and confronted head on.  What’s that?  Oh yes we will “draw substantially on Britain’s strategy, which emphasises tackling the causes of terrorism”. We will “echo the British approach, which emphasises grassroots social policy such as building community networks, tackling alienation among young people, and encouraging moderate Muslim preachers.”

Great stuff!  The British model has been spectacularly unsuccessful because how else could radical imams safely practice and recruit terrorist bombers from within society.  Where else could protestors call for death to those who insult Islam, and where else would you see incoherent babble from senior government ministers on how they will deal with this problem?  Melanie Phillip sees it as Slouching towards dhimmocracy (See Melanie’s link to Telegraph if my link incoherent babble doesn’t work)

Still it all fits with some roll back of Intervention in aboriginal communities where Krudd08 is now to reinstate the permit system “that permits social rot” - Story from Austraian on 18 Jan (no link). Opinion from the Australian.

Oh well, never mind, the new total security assessment “will include non-conventional threats such as climate change, natural disasters and the economy.”

All breathtaking stuff ... it hasn’t taken long for these socialists to show their true colours, has it?  There are interesting times ahead!

Yes it’s the vocabulary game.  We had a problem with Islamic terrorism so we rename the problem “Anti-Islamic activity”.

And the first problem is solved because it no longer exists.  (Fantastic!)

However we now have a second more intractable problem than the first.  No one will know what “anti-Islamic activity” actually means because it will become confused with the first problem “islamic terrorism” and although we have re-defined the problem there will be many people who will persist in referring to the problem by its first description.

Dullards, but dangerous dullards as they divert their attention from the real problem.
