REVENY

For just one week every year, the high-pitched shrieking noise coming out of Melbourne is produced by something other than Catherine Deveny:

March is the month of the revolting, corrosive, environmental and cultural vandalism that is the Grand Prix.

Revolting, corrosive ... the similarities between Formula One and a standard Deveny column are stunning. (Speaking of corrosion, delicate Deveny is deeply urine-obsessed today. Whatever happened to Age editor Andy Jaspan’s celebrated language sensitivity?) Among other Deveny/F1 points of comparison:

• Both F1 cars and Deveny are sometimes permitted to run on public roads.

• Both F1 cars and Deveny use mirrors.

• An F1 engine weighs 95 kilograms.

UPDATE. In other media lady news, Marieke “Nice flag, fuckhead” Hardy has won a prize. Hardy watcher Margaret of Newtown is impressed:

Congratulations Marieke! I hope that this award results in a bunch of other women in their mid-thirties following your example and dressing like 6yo girls.

Strewth, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of hot lefty poon awaiting the single man in old Melbourne town. Tracee, Marieke, Cath Deveny - granted this is the cream of the crop, but I’m positively green with envy that the black skivvy wearing crowd are able to lay down with all these hot babes. If I was a single man in Bleak City after I’d finished watching the Grand Prix and the bay dredging this weekend, I might head out to a Fitzroy cafe and see if I could get me some.

  22. Finally Fitsy is recognised for her tireless propogation of mediocrity and shameless trading on family history.

The ABc should give her due recognition as well for the transformation of Triple J’s breakfast show from merely moronic to self-indulgent, turgid, tiresome and cretinous; while ratings were merely flatlining under the tutelidge of the two imbeciles from Frenzal Rhomb, now they’re completely in the toilet where they belong, it being a public broadcaster an’all; the use of two retarded white males hardly met the ABC’s criteria for diversity as well- this has been adressed with a lineup of a brain-damaged hippy, a tedious superannuated teenager and a self-obsessed harpy with all the comedy talent of her dead commie grandad (and his looks).

I’m surprised Traceeeeeee & Catheter have had their sizeable talents overlooked by our ABC- imagine a two-hour twice weekly chat/comedy show featuring these three stars? I might pitch this to management- any suggestions for a title?

  30. OT, but I must report on the receipt of a very fat envelope in the mail from the QUT.

No such luck, it is a survey from some hard luck PHD student in information technology.  Before turfing it, I thought I would have a look at the questions, to find them very amusing.  It is all about what I think of the media!

If anyone is interested, perhaps I should get you all to help me fill them in.  To give you a taste, here is the first question:

Do you agree; agree; neither agree or disagree; disagree; or strongly disagree with the statements:

    The media can be trusted:
The media tell the whole story:
    The media are accurate:
    The media are fair:
Media organisations can be trusted to report the news fairly:
I have a lot of confidence in the people running media institutions in Australia:

halp me jone Karry with thes kestions!

  36. Wow!  None of the slanging matches in the political blogosphere can compete with the pure undiluted vitriol you get when a bunch of ABC listeners are given a forum to slag off a host they don’t care for.  They get more worked up about them then they do John Howard.

Hardy was educated at Carey Baptist Grammar School…

    Yep.

I believe that was the same school that Peter Costello and John Elliott went to.

    You go comrade girl!

I guess when you’ve got looks, an inheritance and the best education money can buy you’ve really no need for a coherent political philosophy.

Why do I just feel dirty all over after visiting that site?

However, what amazed me was an offensive Obama splash screen, rather than the usual Bush screen.

These Troofers and Jew-haters are just going to go postal when Obama gets in, and they won’t realise (or admit to) it, but they are a large part of the cause as a result of their incredible hatred of GWB.

Whoah, whoah, whoah. I have a Grand Prix, and it’s a wonderful car. It’s kept me safe through two accidents (both the other guys’ faults), it’s carried me all around the eastern half of the US, including about half the length of the Mississippi, and it’s still doing pretty well despite nearing 100,000 miles. OK, so a co-worker’s Grand Prix burst into flames all on its own last week, but that’s apparently a problem with the turbo charger, NOT the car in general.

    “Cultural vandalism”? My ass.

  50. #21 and #44 - Read about it in a few different places. The Oz (and most other places) report one woman making a racket and being removed and a couple of people with placards out the front of the building. Ho hum.

Click over to SBS and it’s a different story:

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has faced protests as he led parliament in congratulating Israel on the upcoming 60th anniversary of its statehood.

A woman was ejected from the public gallery after interrupting his speech as other protesters demonstrated outside, while Palestinian supporters published a large statement critical of the government’s position in a national newspaper.

Two powerful Australian trade unions joined the group of individuals and organisations in the advertisement, entitled “Not in our name”, which urged parliament to abandon the motion. Link

One kook, a couple of guys with signs and a newspaper ad: was SBS reporting the same story? And how can a statement be large - do you have to speak in 24pt font?

BTW - if you check the list of people who signed onto the ad you’ll see a couple of familiar names (among them Antony Loewenstein and Damian Lataan) and a raft of anti-Israel groups. I guess the ad sponsors were aiming for numbers and not credibility.
