REPORTER LIBELLED
Whatever happened to not speaking ill of the dead?
Anna Politkovskaya, the journalist murdered by a hit-man in Moscow last Saturday, was Russia’s Robert Fisk.
Harsh. Still, perhaps the reference was to this Robert Fisk, who works for a British publication several notches above the Independent.
I don’t see the comparison. For one thing, Anna Politkovskaya was a good journalist. Fisk isn’t.

Not to be confused with the Soviet Union’s Robert Fisk…

They would not dare cross anyone who might put a bullet through them as with Politkovskaya. With very rare exceptions Western reporters and other journalists only “speak truth to power” in cases where there is no danger of harm from those in power. That’s why they are all so vicious towards Bush but mighty respectful of Islam, as Peche points out.

They live in the regions on which they report and use primary sources in their writing. Blair sits on his a in Australia and uses blogs to source material. This has the great advantage of preserving the purity of his style which remains untainted by fact or impartiality.
At least the second Robert Fisk didn’t have the van driver go back and identify with the legitimate grievances of the the rock throwers. One question I have is that I’ve seen English kids throw and the fact that they actually hit something must be some kind or record?

Sort of on topic.
Foreign Correspondent did a whole piece on Cambodia without once mentioning the dreaded word ‘Communist’.
Hun Sen was a just ‘former Khymer Rouge’, and ran a ‘democratic government’.
They did make much of the corruption and cronyism there, and even hinted thatit was reverting to crushing the peasants like in old KR times, but they said not a word about the fact he was put in power by the Vietnamese communists, whose government style he still mirrors..
The ABC wants us all to think that Hun Sen is just another ‘capitalist dictator’ whom they can safely criticise, ahistorically of course.
