RENT PAID

Having spent years squealing about the election-fixing, war-mongering Murdoch press, Antony Loewenstein is now writing for them.

  1. Antony Loewenstein is author of My Israel Question, to be released in August by Melbourne University Publishing. (emphasis mine)

Gawd, even his book title reeks of egomania.

  2. It seems like a play on Peter Gay’s Berlin memoir My German Question. Shekels shown, scooped.

  3. Well, The Ant can still spew his unenlightened and blinkered venom.  So he’s a happy camper.

Or is he back to being a cadet?  One never knows with egotists.

  4. Well, the article relies on Loewenstein’s faith in a thesis which he presents as…

This carefully reasoned study ...a reasoned paper…a frank analysis

...without actually providing evidence of it’s soundness. That the study adheres to his own view is evidence enough apparently and readers will just have to take his word on it’s merits.

However when both Noam Chomsky and Christopher Hitchens expose the study as a shoddy piece of pseudo scholarship, you know Lowenstein has a problem.

  5. Antony reminds me so much of Mike Moore from Frontline. Looks just like him with the glasses etc. And sounds like him too: the recycling of long-discredited academic articles, referring to female politicians as ‘he’ (whilst at the same time crowing about his expertise in the subject matter).

For American readers, Frontline was a mock-documentary set behind the scenes on an amoral TV current affairs show. Made in the mid-90s, small number of episodes and painfully funny despite no canned laughter. Probably the best show ever made in Australia. I don’t know if it was ever seen in the US or UK - a lot of the material was local and probably wouldn’t travel well.

Mike Moore was the vain, brainless host of the show who thought he was an intellectual mover and shaker (and his handlers helped inflate the ego) but ended up showing his utter foolishness time over. That is Antony.

  6. Tim ... you’ve answered the second question ... who’s paying the rent ... but what of the first question ... who’s up who?

  7. What a joke, frankly - I especially appreciated the old ‘out of bounds’ line, otherwise known as ‘not especially protected for the sake of its author’s tender ego and flimsy argument’.\

  8. What does the Australian think it is doing publishing such as “Public debate on the subject is routinely curtailed by intimidation and slander initiated by the Zionist lobby.” The hidden perfidious hand of the Jew (in the media of course, the modern extension of Jewish control), directing disagreement to the sentiments expressed by such as Mearsheimer and Walt. Do they read what he and his acolytes have to say on his blog. As a commenter pointed out, despite their claims to the contrary, the fact that they routinely conflate Israel, Zionism and Jew says what they are, racists.

Well what an ex-commenter said, AL the proponent of frank analysis as a necessary condition of a free democracy has banned all commenters who disagree with his (and his unpleasant mates) facts or interpretations. Hasn’t done much for his traffic.

“It would be an indication of an ailing democracy if interest groups prevailed in the public sphere.”
The Australian is having a lend of us surely.

  9. Loewenstein is self-promoting hypocrite. He lectures on ‘free speech’ in The Australian and yet he discriminately censors comments on his own blog. He regularly deletes comments from those who disagree with him and he allows abusive statements from those he agrees with—so long as they are abusing the enemy, his fellow Jews.

The fact that The Australian gave him a national platform to spew his vile is astounding. I hope the Jewish lobby challenge the peurile man to a debate.

  11. I love real freedom of speech.  It allows all the Quislings, Lord Haw-Haw’s, and Rose’s of Tokyo to stand up on the world stage like bad vaudvillian acts, ready for the rain of rotted vegetables they deserve.

    Where’s the hook?

I agree with you - he doesn’t even begin to tackle how poorly constructed the paper was. He just says it is well-reasoned and Amen! - it supposedly is.

The ironic point is, is that if a student had handed in the same paper, they would have easily failed the subject.

Professors. Can’t any of them write something that supports Israel? I have yet to come across one.

Professors are censored when it comes to Israel. I have a friend who lectures at a university in Melbourne. He marked a paper highly because it was a well-written, well-argued analysis of the Israel/Palestinian crisis. The student evidently concluded that Israel was justified in defending itself. My lecturer friend was hauled into the Professor’s office and ridiculed and instructed to mark the paper down. He obeyed because he needs his job. There is no freedom of expression in universities. They are echo chambers for elitist Leftist academics who muffle any perspective that dooesn’t adhere to their agenda. I know what I’m talking about I study at one and I’ve had this conversation with many student friends. If we want to pass, we have to shut up and write stuff that echos our profs own political views.

The Socialilist Alliance is all over university campuses. They post their propaganda on every spare pole around the campus. I’ve seen pro-Israel stuff posted. Then I’ve seen it ripped down within a day by the Jew-haters.

  15. From reading that article I still do not have a clue what the article argues, what its ideology is, what evidence it uses, what it concludes, etc. etc. Nowehere does he mention that the overwhelming scholarly response has been scathing.

AL has written an article that is little more than a roll call of journalists in different countries. Yawn.

he doesn’t even begin to tackle how poorly constructed the paper was. He just says it is well-reasoned and Amen! - it supposedly is.

He bets, correctly, that his audience is at least as lazy and stupid as, well, me, and that they won’t read it either.  All they’ll remember later is that he said it was good.  If that much, even.

It is an appalling situation that being pro-Israel is frowned upon as you have come across at university. I go to uni as well and have noticed the moonbattery that goes on - it is just as well that I have never studied the subject at uni, I am probably the better for it.

reply to 17 - Stoop Davy Dave

Haha. Classic. I love your name by the way. Well all I can say is that the next time some idiot wants to quote Mearsheimer and Walt with some credibility, I will tell them to go stick it and proceed to destroy them rhetorically. It is time these people woke up and smelt the roses, instead of their expired, flat and disgustingly warm chardonnay.

  19. I counted seven blatant lies and four matters of opinion presented as fact in the Rabid Ant’s piece before I stopped counting.

It is not difficult to fisk this smelly muck if you want to play their game. Probably that’s necessary and no doubt someone has the ugly job of preparing a reply piece, as if this stuff should be taken seriously, right now. That is the depths to which the Loewensteins of this world have managed to drag this debate. It’s like having to argue that women have a right to speak their minds just like everybody else. Just when you thought that one had finally been buried for good.

All of this of course a diversion. Those who have the stomach should count the lies. But the risk of course is overlooking the forest for the trees. What we are seeing here is One Big Lie. Told over and over again.

  24. If Loewy was not an israeli hating Jew he would never get published nationally .
In France only Jews who attack Israel constantly get published and Interviewed on state TV. So discovered the massively intelligent Alan Finkelraut who has been attacked by the raving leftist ever since he opened his mouth in a foreign broadcast.
‘The extraordinary reaction to the Mearsheimer-Walt article suggests that the Israel-US relationship is out of bounds.’
Typical! it suggest nothing of the sort merely that the relationship is falsely described in terms more suited to the Protocol of the elders of Zion.
‘they also note that one of the “most powerful weapons” against honest debate is the perennial accusation of anti-Semitism’
it is and has been shown to sometimes be thinly veiled antisemitism.
US support is underpinned by a loose affiliation of journalists, politicians and lobbyists who operate on the assumption that the only language understood by Arabs and Palestinians is force.
Well Lowy convince us of the opposite please.
‘In a healthy democracy, Israel’s policies should not be immune to criticism.
it is constantly being criticised . Read the Israeli newspapers for gd sake!
And while your at it Loewy read the Hammas manifesto.

  27. Also, Ant should have stayed at Blogspot. No one comments at the new site - except his usual coterie of approximately five utter arse lickers. Everyone else has realised how uninteresting the man is, I suppose. Even most of the lefties seem to have abandoned him.
