Oh, I suspect they don’t mention that because there were (are?) a great many Democrats and other Leftists sorely disappointed that that attempt failed. A dyed-in-the-wool Socialist couple I used to work with among them. They wanted him impeached for the “The bombing starts in 5 minutes” joke.

It’s the aspiration of all lefties to die for one’s leftwing beliefs in a Martin Luther King, Jr. manner (by a nut who can be claimed to be rightwing and reactionary). Dying like Bobby Kennedy (at the hands of a faction sympathized by the left) is not good.
The key is it must be leftwing beliefs. If a rightwing leader is assassinated, that’s not martyrdom. It’s justice.

Roosevelt was giving a speech when hit by a bullet that was slowed enough by an eyeglass case and folded speech in his pocket that it didn’t kill him. He then finished the speech, bleeding. He thus barely out-machoed Andrew Jackson who, when an assassin’s pistols misfired, beat the shit out of the dude with his cane.
Ok, if all these people are ultra-concerned about somebody taking a pot shot at Obama, why don’t they get together and start volunteering to serve as human shields at his public appearances? Why don’t they chip in and buy him a popemobile? Or maybe just convince the candidate to speak exclusively through closed circuit television monitors mounted on every street corner and in everybody’s home (a la Big Brother)? Problem solved.
A usually sensible Lefty at work who I good-naturedly spar with said to me, “How long before some Christian nut takes a shot at Obama?” I asked him to name one “Christian nut” who’s ever done something like that. He then brought out abortion clinic bomber Eric Rudolph. I enlightened him that Rudolph is not a Christian, he’s a Nietzschean who mocks Christians.
I got a “But still…”
That’s how you know you’ve won the argument.

And Leon Czolgosz was an anarchist. Of the successful presidential assassins, only Booth could somewhat plausibly be described as “right-wing”.
Y’know, from all of these claims that Obama will be assassinated, I just have to wonder if these same lefties have a sub-concious love of violence?
Or maybe not so sub-concious, hmmmmmm?

Wilkes Booth was almost certainly a Democrat.
The Democratic Party tolerated slavery. The Republican Party was created in 1856 as the party of abolition. Lincoln’s victory in the 1860 election led to the Civil War.
After the War, Confederate officers and political leaders were denied the vote, so they turned to terrorism to enforce their will. They created the Ku Klux Klan.
When they were re-enfranchised, they became Democrats and GOP was relegated to the margins. The Klan remained entwined with the Democratic Party until the 1970’s, when to all intents and purposes, it was destroyed.
Then again, the idea of a righteous liberal assassinating Barack probably isn’t that far-fetched.
Electing the Messiah would certainly be one of the most egregious examples of blurring the idea of the separation of church and state; MoveOn’ers and Code Pinkettes would be most distressed at such a thing.
Big opportunity for Paco Industries: The Obama Stigmata poster. Our Dark Lord standing before the cross with a hammer in hand while a weeping Michelle kneels in regret for saying she’s proud of her country.

After investigating the incident the FBI found that it had been thrown toward the President and that it was in fact live, but it failed to detonate.

The Osama Death Club always assumes that the assassin will be a member of the KKK in a Ford pick-up or some shadowy CIA operative. But Obama is an apostate in the eyes of many Muslims.
If he is elected president, or even nominated by the Democrats, it is real slap in the face of Mohammed. It says to Muslims that success and riches and 72 groupies don’t require the rather painful route of martyrdom. All you have to do is renounce your faith and you can rise to be the most power man on Earth.
It also casts serious doubts on Obama’s capacity to negotiate with Iran, which already has fatwas in place against apostates.

If nominated, Obama will move toward the center. If elected, he will have to face the world as it is, not as he (and I) would like it to be. What happens when he says we cannot immediately pull out of Iraq but goes through a “phased withdrawal” that lasts years. Or he truns out to be a supporter of Israel. Or “free” “universal” “health care” is not forthcoming.
Especially considering how his campaign is one of “hope” and emotion and increasingly a creepy cult of personality. Imagine how gilted his most fervant supporters will feel if he starts culling back on everything he has planned.
Frankly, if I were Obama, I would be more afraid of a deranged leftie or former supporter than anyone else.
It is without doubt, Obama will be assassinated. Then three days later he will rise and forgive us our sins. If I understand his supporters, he will also complete a carpentry apprenticeship and do some pretty cool stuff with water.

You can add Glenn Reynolds - Instapundit, to the list. When noting that Obama had his security detail increased due to likely winning, he said “Good.” Old post so no linky, but search away.
I’m not saying that’s bad - it’s just a given to me that any front candidate for the presidency has their SS detail increased, so why comment “good” for him in particular? He certainly didn’t do it for McCain.

Sarah Jane Moore was also an FBI informant. She went to her handler and complained the Service had taken her gun. Handler took her to gunstore personally, flashed his ID, and got her a new gun over the counter, no questrions asked.
