PLASTIC TURKEYS EVERYWHERE

Utah talk-show host Tom Barberi:

That plastic turkey didn’t go over too well when the media compared it to a rubber chicken.

Someone call 97.5 FM Talk in Salt Lake City and set this idiot straight.

UPDATE. Lionel Mandrake:

Have any of you ever raised turkeys?

I thought not. But nevertheless you’re happy for other people’s turkeys to die in Iraq!

Damn turkeyhawks.

  1. I don’t think it’s ever going away. To be fair, the “Al Gore claimed he invented the Internet” thing isn’t really true either. So they’re even.

  2. It won’t go away just like not enough troops, Bush lied, Saddam was a victim, Haliburton, torture at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib and own and own and own!.

  4. I don’t know if you have heard, but London mastermind Sadique Khan has been found to have trained with JI in the Philippines, in 2001.

Read why this means the Iraq link is bogus, here.

  5. It won’t go away. just like the fake WMD.

Anyways, we all know it was a real turkey. What we don’t know is what the hell it was carrying a tray for.

  6. off topic but after the David Williamson ‘Ship of Fools’ speech, I speculated facetiously on the identity of the Darth Vader type responsible for “wheeling out the right wing commentators” to attack poor David. Bugger me, but in Crikey this afternoon (thurs) Williamson accuses the Prime Minister’s Department, no less! This just proves the difficulty of trying to satirise the Lefties.
Piers Akerman, Gerard Henderson and The Australian quickly took exception to Williamson’s portrayal of so-called aspirational Australians and the Herald Sun’s Andrew Bolt also put in his two bobs. “All the usual right wing heavies were wheeled out to pour scorn,” Williamson told Crikey.

So could the PM’s office be responsible for the outpouring of contempt?
    very likely, Williamson opines.

  10. The fake turkey persists - like militant activism - because we are ‘fuelling’ it with our resistance.

Have we ever seriously asked what turkeys want?

  11. Well, to be really fair Treacher, Al Gore said, “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.” It was clumsy wording to be sure, but he did indeed say it. His words continue to be taken out of context to this day by his opponents. Bush never served a plastic turkey, so I don’t think it is a fair comparison. I think the “Mission Accomplished” banner is a better comparison. It wasn’t meant the way it was portrayed by the media and opponents, but it really happened.

  13. We are about to be hit by a media tsunami on “Bush’s depleted uranium weapons poison babies.” One symptom – Crikey today was rushed when it offered about 60 film passes to Blowin’ In The Wind, the latest film from two-time Academy Award nominee, David Bradbury.

Crikey says, “It examines the secret treaty that allows the US military to train and test its weaponry on Australian soil. It looks at the impact of depleted uranium (DU) weapons and the far reaching physical and moral effects on every Australian. "

For more info - visit http://www.bsharp.net.au”

The ABC has had a field day already with scare stories about an alleged baby victim of depleted uranium weapon dust via Shoalwater Bay defence exercises.
    Mercifully, Quadrant Sept 2005 http://www.quadrant.org.au/php/article_view.php?article_id=1198
has the issue scientifically treated. Author Dr John Whitehall is the Director of Neonatology at Townsville Hospital. He has a special interest in the causes and incidence of birth defects, and is a member of the Australian Birth Defects Society.

Three significant points from the piece:
    1. He quotes an editorial in the Lancet:

“In no study has excess cancer been linked to intakes of uranium. In short, despite numerous workers being exposed to large amounts of uranium, no study has provided evidence that either depleted or natural uranium is carcinogenic, even for lung cancer following inhalation of uranium.”

    2. Consanguinity (marriage among close relatives) is of fundamental importance to any discussion of birth defects anywhere in the world but particularly in the Middle East. It is scientific negligence for the media never to raise its importance in a succession of programs on birth defects.

3 Radiophobia, the unrealistic fear of radiation is, itself, a weapon of mass destruction. Though some thirty-one individuals died from the acute effects of the explosion in Chernobyl, over 1000 workers in the initial response are believed to have committed suicide for fear of the effects. Worse, up to 200,000 otherwise healthy pregnancies are believed to have been aborted in Europe because their parents suffered unwarranted fear of deformities after Chernobyl.[

  19. Re 13, DU ammo is not used at Shoalwater Bay to my knowledge, and never has been AFAIK. That stuff is bloody expensive warshot ammo and you do NOT use it in exercises. You use cheaper ammo made of that hideously carcinogenic, mutagenic, fattening, toxic, immoral, noxious all-round bad shite called steel. Sure, the round has a different ballistic nature, but that is a matter for the ballistic computer to deal with, not the gunner.

And I have never heard of anyone using APDS (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot: a tank killing round)at Shoalwater anyway. I do not think the range is cleared for APDS. the ricochets can go a LONG way.

I’m calling bullshit on this one.

Who would ever suspect Crock-o-shite Crikey and Australias Best Communists the Award Winning ABC of talking through their arses? (Irony tag off)
