Twelve dead in East Timor, and the UN is in concealment mode:
The United Nations has ordered staff in East Timor not to co-operate with Australian Federal Police investigating the massacre of 12 unarmed Timorese officers by renegade soldiers, prompting allegations of a cover-up.
A letter from the UN’s deputy representative in Timor, Pakistani General Anis Bajwa, had been circulated to all staff, including employees evacuated to Australia, directing them not to assist AFP detectives investigating the worst atrocity since the violence of 1999.
Something has obviously changed since the UN’s era of everyone can see everything.
“...the UN’s deputy representative in Timor, Pakistani General…”
Stop. Right. There.
“...the murders, which took place 25 May outside UN police headquarters.”
And again.
“He kept insisting that the presence of the UN would protect them.”
Hello? Anybody home? Two groups of people aren’t playing nice. One has guns. One doesn’t. One of the third parties attempting to unscrew this pooch (the UN, not you guys) appears to either not have guns or be unwilling to use them. Of course the UN doesn’t want anybody to know the details.
Blue Helmets are turned and running,
We’re finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Can’t trust the UN, no!Gotta get down to it,
Kofi is letting us down!
Shoulda fessed up long ago!
What if you knew them and
Saw them dead on the ground?
How could you free East Timor?Posted by richard mcenroe on 2006 06 04 at 01:22 PM • permalinkRe: the picture of Aussie soldiers in the linked report.
Why is it that Aussie soldiers always look tougher than anybody else’s soldiers? I get the same feeling when I look at pictures from Gallipoli or Kokoda.
Something in the water?

I suppose that would be true to form. If something is ‘inconvenient’, just deny it.
I’d guess that the letter does exist.
Does anyone have a copy that could be made available on line, so we could nail the bastards?
Instead the police were escorted out behind a blue UN flag and got less than 100 metres from their headquarters when two soldiers opened fire, killing 12 officers and wounding at least 20, including UN police protectors from the Philippines.
This sure makes me want to trust the United Nations. Not.
Just think, folks, what the UN would in such a situation do if Bill Clinton ever becomes Secretary General. Of course, ol’ Bubba will have to persuade someone to launch cruise missiles for the UN…...

Malik should be forced to wear a helmet for the rest of his career with the United Nations.

A letter from the UN’s deputy representative in Timor, Pakistani General Anis Bajwa, had been circulated to all staff, including employees evacuated to Australia, directing them not to assist AFP detectives investigating the worst atrocity since the violence of 1999.
Hoookay then. Who brokered the disarmament of the Timor Police at their HQ?
The UN - to wit, IIRC, a certain Pakistani general.
So the UN gets the police to disarm.
Does the UN have VEHICLES to take the disarmed Police out of their HQ to the UN compound?
Yes. And some of them are armoured.
Does our pakistani General use them?
No, not even the UNARMOURED ones.He has them Walk.
Right past the still-armed East Timorese troops who have just been fighting them.
To the UN’s complete surprise, a dozen or so get dead, twice that wounded.
Hmm. I wonder why the Pakistani General is ordering UN staff not to speak about who frigging organised THIS little UN cluster?

CanberraWhat the fcuk does Malik care? The only ones that got killed were Christian Timorese and the UN Filippino soldiers. Hopefully, someone will do the right thing and starve the bastard for a week before giving him some salted pork to eat.

Strangely, this phenomenon does NOT apply to Coalition or Fed police -only to EUROpersonnel or terrorists…
Let any Australian,American,British,Malaysian,Indonesian,Latin American police or troops dare to look sideways at anyone and they will be vilified for even THINKING unkind thoughts.

Some international groups who have been screaming about atrocities are not cooperating with Iraqi authorities to provide information about the activities of Saddam Hussein. Why? Because Iraq has the death penalty, and the information could result in Saddam’s execution.
