Jeremy Bruno considers Earth Hour:
I don’t think people are drones or idiots, but I do believe that we are misguided and give far too much credit to the changing public face of environmentalism to ploys like Earth Hour. The rise in the price of fuel, the crashing large-home market and a looming recession are far more likely to reduce energy consumption in this country.
Way to look on the bright side, pal. This must be what Al Gore is talking about when he says: “We can solve the climate crisis.” Meanwhile, sing along with Earth Hour the band:
On Saturday night we were heading to the Jack Johnson gig, I told my sister it was earth hour between 8-9pm ... She said “I’ve never heard of them. I hope they’re good”
O/T - Did anyone see the execrable Wil Anderson on the Comedy thingo last night? I was at a friend’s and they turned it over to that channel for a half hour or so.
Jesus wept. The man is not only an imbecile but managed to be even less funny than the previous lows he had set on The Glass House.

We distracted her by staying at the Easter show until it was over. Not much evidence of dimmed lights there.
Bruno is right. Want to make people use less fuel, make it more expensive. It is basic economics. It is also basic economics that if the cost of energy is too expensive you risk a recession or a depression. When you get to a depression the environmental gains are wiped out. If you can’t afford energy, you can’t afford to be green either. They go hand in hand.
Hmm, and as we in WA just returned back to normal time from daylight saving time, I wonder how many realise how much nonesense this earth hour was in terms of what was gained, or lost, by having daylight saving?
Cynic I am, I wonder if earth hour was a ploy to see how many citizens could be gulled into obeying the order to turn off lights and attend Hour Long meetings?
I must be a rabid, rightwing to even contemplate such heresy!

Good lefties are not to volunteer because they will be needed to run the world after all the knuckle-draggers are gone.
National Public Radio, our US taxpayer subsidized radio network, had a slobbering take on Earth Hour even as they essentially conceded it was a meaningless failure*.
Most irksome but least surprising, the guest was a “journalist” for Time magazine who was in actuality an AlGore-sanctifying nut.
Jebus, was I pissed off listening to that.

*Mostly it was a failure, according to the host, because the Aussie planners failed to take into account the NCAA basketball tournament on television. As if people who can’t be arsed to shut off basketball will turn off the air conditioning when it’s sweltering! The money quote:

Notice that Jeremy Bruno doesn’t mention Global Warming or Climate Change, just “conservation”.
Jeremy doesn’t see the sense in ‘Earth Hour’ but rather urges year-round awareness of the energy conservation (he rarely has “more than one light on in our home at a time”), but why? - so future generations can waste it?
There are finite amounts of energy producing resources on earth, so why try to conserve them? The sooner they’re exhausted, the sooner people will be forced to adopt and perfect ‘renewables’.
Of course his motivation may be to save money, something everyone can relate to, but there are many alternative ways to do that.The main aim of ‘Earth Hour’ is to implant and reinforce a sense of guilt, every time you turn on a switch.
Guilt is a very powerful control mechanism, a fact that the Catholic Church has known for centuries. It has the power to change governments.Hey! What numbnuts turned off the lights? Now the looters have stolen my television and my autographed Nervous Norbert record album. And my power bill has gone up by $67 a month every time the pull this stunt, because of the energy required to return my home to 73 degrees.
A better conservation measure would be pulling the plug on every publicaly funded environmental project and welfare.#2: I saw 30 seconds of that crap and the rest on fast forward same for all the other local ‘comics’. Even the imports were just barely watchable but the Australian contingent was a plain embarrassment to anyone involved.
The whole 1 and a half hour program lasted about 15 minutes on the vcr (the only way I watch free to air content) and that was 15 minutes lost. Never again, for charity or otherwise.

And who was Xavier playing? West Virginia University who was being coached by the former coach of ... the University of Cincinnati.
And how did George Bush become reelected in 2004? By taking Ohio, by the strength of Republican voters in ... Cincinnati.
Fools! Connect the dots. It’s a conspiracy I tell ya.
