PELOSI FURIOUS
Good news in Iraq is bad news for the Left:
Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., has been one of the strongest anti-war voices in Congress and a key ally of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. However, after a recent trip to Iraq, Rep. Murtha said, “The surge is working” ...
One story quoting Rep. Murtha is in The Politico - the online publication that covers Capitol Hill. What is interesting is the next line that says the Pennsylvania Democrat’s statement “could be a huge problem for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders.”
“This could be a real headache for us,” said one top House Democratic aide, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Pelosi is going to be furious.”
Nothing infuriates a Democrat speaker quite like a working surge. Which brings our Virginia editorialist to this fine point:
Imagine if during World War II, some congressional aide had said, “We’ve just taken back the Philippines. This could be a real headache.”
Nothing succeeds like distress, here in the 21st century.
Good weather, good economy, good news in general—all bad news for the Complaining Classes.

Democrats are loyal only as long as they’re running the country (which they were in WWII…hence no such comments were made).
The Democrat Party has ALWAYS put their own personal interests ahead of the national interest, an obvious example being our civil war when party members turned traitor en masse…just like today.

Actually, the Democrats were the defeatist appeasement party in the 1864 elections, with George McClellan as their nominee. Hence the comparisons between General McClellan and General Ricardo Sanchez.
Imagine Bush being declared a visionary after all these years of Democrats calling him stupid and unable to string a sentence together?

This is serious.
Australia is a constitutional monarchy, while governments are decided at the ballot box the authority of ministers, including the Prime Minister, is derived from the Crown.
He cannot sweep aside the constitution just because he feels like it. We may become a republic one day if the people wish it, but until that day we must all observe the constitutional arrangements as they stand- even the Dear Leader with his freshly bought election victory.
Rudd cannot refuse to swear allegiance. To do so makes his government and its acts constitutionally illegitimate. Even Keating understood that FFS.
It might seem a small thing but if he’s allowed to get away with this God help us all.

Posted by walterplinge on 2007 12 04 at 02:52 AM • permalinkDear Mr. Rudd,
First of all, congratulations on becoming the latest Prime Minister of Australia.
I am writing to express my concern at you apparently not swearing allegiance to the Crown as a part of your oath.
As the Prime Minister of Australia, I thought it was a part of your constitutional obligation to express your loyalty to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second as the head of the Commonwealth.
It appears that I was mistaken.
Please excuse my ire, but as far as I am concerned, we live under a constitutional monarchy and not a republic, and I have not had the opportunity to vote either for or against any change of such magnitude.
I would be grateful to know if this departure from the tradition is actually constitutional and therefore legal, or was this a mere error of form?
If the former, then please enlighten me as to when our constitution did change.
At the ripe old age of forty, I have not participated in any referenda on this issue lately.
If your neglect of Her Majesty was merely forgetfulness, then I would consider an apology to the Crown a necessity.
As a student of the Chinese culture, you would surely be aware that losing face is something to be avoided at all costs.
Your behaviour has caused Australia to lose face in my eyes, and in the eyes of many others, and I am at a loss to understand such an appalling breach of etiquette and form from the the leader of our country.
In your acceptance speech you promised to govern for ALL AUSTRALIANS.
Sir, by omitting the Queen and the allegiance you owe her, you are not governing for ALL AUSTRALIANS. I have no idea who you are governing for, and I do not believe it is a promising start to your tenure.
Yours sincerely,
Nilknarf Arbed.

You might relax and wait for the fun to start. The verbal oath made in such ceremonies is for public consumption and thus the PM could make much of his refusal to swear an oath to the Queen of Australia. Unfortunately, the bit which makes his appointment legal is his signing ceremony with the GG. And the document he signed was that of an oath to serve the Queen faithfully as Her Prime Minister of Australia, and other words to that effect. So while he avoided swearing an oath to Her Majesty, he did sign his KR to such.I think that if someone made the correct approaches to the Office of the Governor-General of Australia, one might obtain a copy of the document signed by the PM, just to check one’s curiosity.
Cheers

re: Rudd and HRM’s GG — do we actually have a government in Australia as I type this?
Sources I’ve researched thus far indicate that there is in fact no Federal Government at this juncture, and this will remain the case until such time as Rudd swears his allegiance to the Queen.
For that matter, there has never been a duly consituted government—now or ever—that can unilaterally declare a republic.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but a referendum is required to determine how “res publica” [things or that which is from, to, for, of, derived from, pertaining to — people] is to be maintained.

They have much more important work to do.
Ozzie Marsupial Unicorns have reappeared at schools which teach indigenous languages. I saw such an enthusiastic report on the news. Kids learn maths by some sort of osmosis once gibbergunnawail (or some such) has been re-introduced.
Some careful explaining about those computers for kids was also forthcoming, just two days after the swearing in. Thanks Abc! How could we have all misunderstood that it takes time, money and staffing, not to mention maintenance and new sofware, to keep all those computer going. And maybe not every kid really needs a computer after all.
Now, just so you didn’t misunderstand another thing - the government won’t necessarily BUY those computers anyway. Why don’t you parents go right out now and buy them yourselves and, rest assured, your claim for (mumble mumble rebate) some sort of assistance will be there (in the mail) well before the next election.
Australia Talks (ABC RN) can also be relied upon to distil the essential wisdom of the moonbat luvvie left who are the main audience, now that people like us have turned off. One woman gave a long speech by phone saying (on the subject of intervention) that what we have to do is listen to the communities, and do exactly as they say.
That might vary from “More grog please” to “more intervention please”, but it must be right in both cases according to her thesis. What would we know about running an orderly society anyway? So, Miranda Deride is happy to trust Iran, because a bunch of intelligence agencies said “no problem”.
Why do I still feel uneasy?
1. No effective inspections by the blind and toothless UN watchdog under Al-Baradei.
2. Deception is mandatory under their religion.
3. So many underground facilities.
4. If Pakistan and N. Korea can do it, anyone can.
5. The Syrian nuke bomb assembly facility which was bombed recently.
6. The Libyan programs which slipped under the radar until they owned up.

Iran is very serious about their missile program. With the help of the “peaceful” Chinese, not to mention Putinstan, they will be able to reach Israel in very short order. It is very easy for them to acquire all the happy juice they need from Syria, Nk etc. If they throw that stuff at Israel, the world will forever be changed.
People like Miranda, with their conservative derrangement syndrome, should start to think about these realities. How many kilowatts of power are those Iranian centrifuges putting out for the Iranian people anyway? Just asking.
#89 Latino
Very right. And the world might pay a horrific price because these idiots don’t want to show Bush in a favourable light.
Is Iran serious about what they say about Israel?
Can they easily acquire some form of biological agent, at the minimum? If you can’t answer a categorical no to both of those questions then the world faces a grave threat.
So, Miranda, they “stopped” when the US invaded Iraq .. maybe thinking their turn was next.
I bet they’ve resumed since then.
