Death to Hamas!

So 60 Minutes last night went banging on about US troops being killed/wounded in Iraq and US troops in Iraq lacking basic armor (while carefully omitting from the statfest how many of those casualties were actually due to lack of basic armor). They then went on to reveal that the aformentioned lack was due to Congresscritters diverting funds to their own pork projects—without naming a single one of said politicos. Why do I suspect the list would closely resemble the list of those Dems who received donations from CBS staffers? Why do I suspect that if Tom DeLay were one of the names, it would’ve been front and center in the piece?
Must be just my suspicious and cynical nature.
I probably don’t need to tell anyone here this, but justincase, the latest Steyn rocks. It tears PlameGate a new one.

Say, why don’t we redecorate Tim’s site while he’s out; y’know, like in one of those shows on the Home and Garden cable channel? I’m thinking some new drapes over there on the left, a few colorful accents in the banner (maybe a koala or a wallaby, whatever the hell that is), and a larger comments section -“perfect for entertaining”.
CNN: AlJazeera West.
Aaron Brown also, very thoughtfully, gave the Iraq war a “progress report” last night and included a segment hosted by Nic (Suck-up) Robertson interviewing a couple “insurgent” leaders who were warning the US that the end is near!! Whoo, hoo.
They then took the intrepid Nic to a meeting which was supposed to include all the gangs…er, groups, to have a big summit, yet nobody else showed. Strangely, the Big Cheese spoke English. Hmmm, was the purpose of the whole meeting and the “insurgent” interviews propaganda, and why is that segment missing from the transcript today? Is Nic a traitor or just stupid for having participated?
(Nic: I feel so…used!)

36 years ago today, Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo Kopechne in act of drunken philandery when he drove her off a bridge at Chappaquiddick MA and abandoned her to drown.
Two years ago, a columnist at the Boston Globe actually typed the words, “If Mary Jo Kopechne were still alive today, she would be thanking Senator Kennedy for his efforts on behalf of senior citizens…”

I just lashed out (January) and bought myself a video recorder/player and DVD player and racked my brain to think about what DVD set I should buy myself to keep. Couldn’t think of what was worth keeping… until I remembered that I had only caught several episodes of Babylon 5 - so I bought the lot. Couchpotatoed for a few weekends watching it from whoa to go - it was good (bit corny in places, though).
I also have 1 and 3 of Farscape (another excellent SF production!) - I am just waiting for the rest of Farscape to come on Special and I will buy it.
No, Claudia Black doesn’t ring my bells, but she is gorgeous! I liked playing “spot the Aussie extra actor” under the alien makeup! Farscapre - shame it got axed and that the free-to-air channel here which showed it mixed up the episodes and kept reorganising programs so that you never really knew when it would be on.
And I might get Futurama when it’s on special….Enterprise failed because, while it made a half-hearted attempt to be “grittier”, it ultimately had the same pussified sensibility as TNG. That was tolerable pre-9/11, not after. Also, Scott Bakula had an acting style best described as “chronic dyspeptic.” And he constantly got his ass kicked.
Now, look at Battlestar Galactica. Christ in heaven, is this a great show. Even if you’re not into sci-fi (and I’m just a little better than lukewarm about the genre), you will find it compelling.
I’m an Aussie but I’ve never heard of Claudia Black. After googling for several images I find that she’s an attractive lady but really isn’t THAT good looking.
Maybe we’re spoiled over here in Oz with lots of lovely three wheelers (sheilas) to perve on. I must say that on a 9 day trip to LA, Vegas and ‘Frisco a couple of years ago I was most disappointed in the standard of pulchritude amongst American shemales.
Poor complexions were vey common and not many looked (ahem) very athletic.I was most disappointed in the standard of pulchritude amongst American shemales…not many looked (ahem) very athletic.
Mick - if you ever find yourself perusing the personals in the US, here’s a handy translation guide to an American woman’s description of her physique:
“Slim” = average.
“Average” = 20 lbs overweight.
“Curvy” = 50 lbs overweight.
“Could lose a few pounds” = bring a forklift.
“BBW” = fused to the couch.Interestingly, there’s variability in their perceptioon of identical dimensions. For instance, a 5’6”, 140-lb woman will describe herself as “healthy”, while she’ll describe a 5’6”, 140-lb woman who’s eyeing her boyfriend as a “fat cow.”
Just a funny one, DaveS.
I used to be a babe.
Now I am middle aged, fat, greying.
I need to provide the beer goggles if my luck is to change!I don’t think I can afford that much beer!!

Alan Rickman, now he’s a good sort!Richard - Firefly: a short-lived scifi show with a cultish following, written and produced by Joss Whedon. Serenity: the movie about to be released, continuing that saga (or space opera, if you prefer). It was smart, off-beat, pure Joss Whedon, who is worshipped in certain quarters (but not others).
lingus, I didn’t follow up on the calculations, but then math was never my strong point. My bad. You’d have to ask Mad Mikey about them.

MEDIA SLAGS CRINGE WHEN IRAQ CALLS
I am totally sickened by the repeated statements in our beloved media that we are a bigger terrorist target as a result of our support for the UK/USA line on terrorism and Afghanistan/Iraq, etc etc.
These people are unworthy of their jobs and their pay. They undermine our country, give comfort to the enemy, and are aligning themselves with the forces of evil by default.
Where does appeasement stop?
“Don’t vote against these guys in the UN or they’ll bomb our cities!”
Where is the pride in toughness that journos should have? Stand up for right and against bullies, don’t knuckle under to the forces of barbarism who would snuff out your wimpy, arty spouses and friends, who according to Andrew Bolt exist mainly on taxpayer subsidies.
We are a bigger target for terrorists mainly because we are letting the terrorists breed too quickly, and roam the streets and subways, when they should not breed or roam at all. Some will not do so again, being dead by their own hand ( or was that their field commander’s finger - on the button?)

Howard’s a bit of a dud on the gun control thing, though.
Gunshy as a Kennedy, he is.
He’s disarmed more law-abiding Australians than basically any other Government around the world, tyrannical or otherwise.
We’re a pretty hollow beacon of individual freedom as a result, unfortunately. No matter how much you comply with the law, his bureaucrats are always after something more. Their latest fad is high capacity longarm magazines, after decades of the exact same policy failing to have any effect on anything in places such as the US.
The back story for people like Tim is that an Inspector Dettman down in Victoria is pushing the idea that these things are the next weapon of mass destruction that he’s basically stuck his neck out and the new Police Minister’s gone to ground over the matter, a week after putting out a press release saying that “Victoria would lead the other states in a new gun crackdown”. His unsigned 20-page document about reclassifying firearms got the bureaucrats inside the Attorney-General’s department hot and bothered, but they’re a bit touchy on the fact that it could trigger what they describe as ‘buyback activity’. It seems they’re not willing to spend anything on it, but they want the world. If you thought that the handgun buyback was a waste of money, this one’s going to take the cake. Forget that ‘elective’ hip replacement for dear old granny - it’s going to go on confiscating guns from their legal owners.
From the tone of the various proposals that emanate from the bowels of places like VicPol, you’d think George Soros himself was on the payroll.

I appreciate your distress. I have been a lifetime member of the NRA since the 1970s.
I am continually amazed at people who can be logical in some areas and demonstrate such a complete lack of connection between cause and effect in other areas. The inconsistency of thought and action in individuals and associations is often exasperating. It seems that the more “civilized” society becomes, the more difficult it becomes for many to accept the direct dangers of barbarism. If they do not see the danger, it becomes increasingly difficult to protect against and defeat the barbarians.

Who is sexier: Jamie Bamber or Nathan Fillion? (I vote for Fillion, if only because Bamber comes off as pure vanilla in interviews).
Will Ben Browder save SG1? I say yes, as long as they don’t let him write or direct.
Adam Baldwin is my favorite Neanderthal. And I like his shotgun too.
I’ll take Bruce Boxleitner over Edward James Olmos any day of the week.
What does Anthony Simcoe actually look like?
Victim ordered to wed rapist.
BOMBAY—Hard-line Islamic clerics in a northern Indian village have declared that a woman’s 10-year-old marriage was nullified when her father-in-law raped her—and ordered the mother of five to marry the rapist.
*ACK*
With you on Fillion. Plus Capt. Tightpants has that southern charm (ironic for a canuck) that’s sexy as all hell even before he puts that edge on it.
I bounce like a pachinko ball between Shanks, Anderson, and Judge on SG-1. Not a big Browder fan, maybe because Farscape left me cold.
Any man who names his gun after a woman has my vote. Additional points for not being related to the sorry-ass American Baldwin clan.
Amen to Boxleitner. Olmos was hot in Miami Vice with that lean samurai-ninja thing he had going, but now he’s just a caricature. And a lumpy caricature, at that.
Hell if I know on Simcoe. I’ve never seen him without those flesh dreadlock things. Guys with alien makeup though ... I may be crazy, but Marc Alaimo was pretty hot for a lizard (at least before they turned his character into a gibbering idiot).
Plus Keith Hamilton Cobb ... in a chainmail muscle shirt ...
And I’ve gotta say—Jason Carter and his long, hard staff ... anytime, Ranger man, anytime.
Claudia Black, so that’s her name. I picked her up some years ago from the Farscape studios at Homebush. Having never seen the show she filled me in on the production. Said she had the lead part. Didn’t really register though.
Yeah she was okay. She sat in the back, didn’t give me any trouble and paid the fare no problems. Though she reckoned she lived in Santa Monica. Maybe I’m thinking of another chick ? Whatever.
Simcoe is a self-described tall, geeky guy.

Nope.

Will Ben Browder save SG1?
SG-1 is an OK time-waster when nothing else is on - never great, rarely unwatchable. Luckily never takes itself seriously, and they usually do well when they go for laughs(Wormhole X-treme!). I’m a huge Browder fan from Farscape, so I was pretty stoked, but he seemed a bit nervous in his first epi - maybe he knows how far down in quality it is. But hell, they landed Beau Bridges and Louis Gosset, Jr, so it must at least be a nice place to gig.
KK - um, wasn’t wanting Alan Rickman to speak about politics… (I tend to avoid listening to actors talking politics - too out of touch with the real world!)
What about Viggo Mortensen?.
If I was 15 years younger the prospects would be a lot wider…
SG started off well, but lost interest and stopped watching it because it was so much based on same-old-same-old. Not enough variety between episodes I suppose.
It’s really hard to find good SF, after reading it for many years nothing seems to be ‘new’. Really liked Larry Niven’s books, and Harlan Ellison is interesting as he writes and also collects anthologies of others’ works. A friend at work put me onto Iain Baker (? I think that’s his name. It’s different.)
Did watch a bit of a Tom Baker Dr Who last night - the vampire one. Better than the really OLD ones. Lost interest in Dr Who when the war was on for episode after episode, too boring. (But it was on tv years and years ago!)

But I’m sure he wasn’t then… just joking!)
Richard Chamberlain as Dr Kildare was a spunk (He’s 70 this year!!). But he should have stayed away from the plastic surgeons!
Aside, just found this site (careful, there’s music… sort of), and my room mate said “What’s that, is that someone who died?” To which I replied “Nah, just looks like he died.”Watching Babylon 5 I thought that Patricia Tallman was quite stunning - speshly when they did that thing with her eyes…
Dudes and dudettes, I’d appreciate some help. There’s been an outbreak of terror toads in my neighbourhood. Can any of the environmentally conscious among you offer advice about how to deal with these obnoxious critters? I understand they’re quite poisonous and it’s not safe to handle them without gloves. I’m worried my kids or my dog might be harmed. Its getting a bit much - it seems that every time I open the GarbAge or turn on the A.B fucking C these days their shit is all over the place.

And while I’ve got the floor, and it’s open slather in this thread, I’d like to say thank gourd this blog exists. I subscribe to a few mailing lists and newsgroups, (and sometimes I even read them!) but I am so over a lot of the warm fuzzies that come out from them. It’s much more fun here.
Mind you, I’ve come close to needing a replacement keyboard at times.
Thanks Tim!
And the rest of the participants.Posted by Nilknarf Arbed on 2005 07 20 at 12:00 AM • permalinkNilknarf Arbed
Jay Laga’aia is dishy, so is Temuera Morrison
Don’t worry, your three year old will be a teenager before you know it… you know, “Quick, move out while you know everything…”, and you will survive! Good luck!
My first SciFi Hot Babe [TM] was (literally) a babe….Angela Cartwright, who played Penny in that (very) old stinker, Lost In Space (on TV, not the movie, which had equally good taste in Hot Babes, even if the movie was another stinker).
But then, I was only 7 or so, and it took me a while to appreciate June Lockhart (Mrs. Robinson), or Marta Kristen (Judy Robinson).
Of course, there was Grace Lee Whitney (Yeoman Janice Rand) from Star Trek, as well as Nichelle Nichols (LT Uhura). Of course, the female costumes on Star Trek were designed for young males on hormone overload.
Still, recent SciFi shows do show an equally good selection of Hot Babes [TM], as noted above….Amanda Tapping….Pat Tillman….Claudia Black….so, no complaints from me!

Pat Tillman???
Hey, the guy was good-looking, and I’ve no doubt he could have parleyed an NFL career and a military stint into a credible sci-fi action role, but that’s a purely hypothetical Hot Babe choice for the ladies. Me, I don’t swing that way.
Smilies abound.
