OSU over Florida? How could that be? I didn’t think a #16 seed has ever beaten a #1.
Shouldn’t you just be happy with the automatic bid that comes with winning the Big Ten and wait until next year when your coach may be able to recruit some help for the inside game? Maybe a good center or something. Just sayin’In F1 news, as feared, every time a SpeedTV commentator mentions the Honda they lapse into vague empty hand-wringing about global warming and related environmental ills. A whole fucking season of this awaits. Please, please, let all Honda engines grenade on the first lap of every race.

According to the SMH, 4 men & 2 teenagers were arrested yesterday afternoon by heavily armed State Protection Group officers . However, the first para of the NSW Police Media Release tells us that Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad officers have charged six people overnight…
Odd that the Herald would focus on the SPG officers doing some of the arresting, but forget to name the MEOCS officers.

‘Tranny cops’ in court
Two Sydney women who satirise police as part of a street theatre act have appeared in court charged with impersonating a police officer.
Sarah Michelle Harrison, 27, of Balmain East, and Anika Vinson, 24, of Marrickville, were arrested at a rally against the Sydney visit of US Vice-President Dick Cheney on February 23.
The pair, who were wearing fake moustaches and police-style blue overalls, are part of a street theatre act known as The Tranny Cops, rally organisers The Stop the War Coalition said.
“They satirise the continued presence of riot police at peaceful protest actions,” coalition spokesman Paddy Gibson said outside court.
“They might run around behind them (police) for the crowd, to lighten the mood of the crowd, which increasingly feels intimidated (by police).”
Mr Gibson said the women had been intimidated by the charges and had not performed since their arrest.

Worked on Margo Kingston.
Many years ago, when Joan “Mother Russia” Kirner was the Victorian enviornment minister, she faced a group of angry farmers demanding poisoned baits be dropped into forests near where the dogs were killing livestock. Mrs Kirner said she and her tree-hugging advisers had a more humane plan and would drop baits laced with dog contraceptive.
A farmer got to his feet: “With all due respect, Mrs Kirner, these dogs are killing my sheep, not fucking them.”
It could have been worse, I suppose. She might have tried condom vending machines.

Melanie Jots down her impressions of Australia !!
Coming from Britain to Canberra to interview members of the Australian government is like leaving a fetid malarial swamp to be douched with fresh cold water from a mountain spring. These guys are so on-side in the great fight for civilisation against barbarism that they make ‘Bush’s poodle’ Tony Blair sound like a Harold Pinter wannabe on a bad day in Basra.
As Britain impatiently awaits the disappearance of the Prime Minister it has impaled on the turnpike of Iraq, as it pulls troops out and as both Gordon Brown and David Cameron delicately signal that they will distance themselves from US foreign policy, John Howard’s government is increasing the number of Australian soldiers in Iraq and its ministers remain passionately committed to the battle for democracy in the Arab and Muslim world.
Their scorn for the current British mood of defeatism and appeasement is palpable. What, for example, does Foreign Minister Alexander Downer think about those in Britain who claim that the Iraq war has made the world a more dangerous place?

Today’s media feeding frenzy after Debnam’s statement that Labor was likely to win again in NSW next week was very revealing. Quentin Dempster did a very aggressive interview with Debnam at 7.30 tonight, talking right over him the whole time.
It looks like the media were just waiting for a chance to put the boot in when the guy was down, and this was their day to do it. Dempster went right into leadership issues, canvassing the replacement of Debnam by O’Farrell. They would NEVER do this to an ALP leader in any state, or at federal level, however badly things were going.
Many in the media are so one-eyed they cannot see themselves any more as others see them.Way back in the thread the frollickingmole commented about the loonies who for some reason have descended onto the Australian’s comments sections over the last couple of days

Posted by aussiemagpie on 2007 03 16 at 05:22 AM • permalinkMelanie Phillips commends the Australian resolve to win in Iraq, as opposed to the defeatism in Britain.
The Australian government understands something that many in the beleaguered administrations of both Blair and Bush (not to mention the British Tories or US Democrats) just don’t get. The Aussies grasp that the free world is under sustained attack from the same enemy on a myriad global fronts; that taking the path of appeasement on any one of these fronts is to undermine that world’s whole defence; and that it is busy undermining itself at every opportunity
Mark Colvin on PM tonight was getting stuck into Andrews (Minister for Immigration) re the Sri Lankans who just arrived by boat.
Colvin set about making all the usual noises about refugees, quite ignoring the fact that these people have come some distance here (why not go to Tamil territory in India, much closer to Sri Lanka?) through another country, Indonesia.
The hypothesis that they are economic chancers was also downplayed.
Much was made of the access or lack of it to legal counsel - tough! And the allegation that the young man was tortured - this is a ticket to ride for the left.
If Colvin wants to champion the unfortunates in various countries who are faced with despicable tyranny, he should do so by using his pulpit to attack those who make those countries hell - IT IS NOT THE WEST,YOU 5th COLUMNIST!#78 blogstrop

I notice that the CDP’s glorious leader Fred Nile (whom I despise for other reasons), has called for a 10 year moratorium on muslim immigration into Australia.
This has resulted (apparently) in death threats from the religion of [the] peace [of the grave]. Funny that. Hey, it caught me by surprise.
Well, I have to grudgingly give Nile his due. At least he sees the problem and says what he thinks should be done.

I also heard on News Radio one of their staff chatting to the US correspondent about the Khalid Sheikh Mohammed court appearance/admissions. In that discussion I was absolutely amazed to hear Mr News radio say something along the lines of “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”
So inappropriate as to be breathtaking. Whose freedom?
If you had any doubts that the ABC is a sick puppy, listening to it each day does reveal a lot. I confess to giving up on the 7.30 Report. It is just too much. I am also regularly taken aback at how much more rabid the TV news is than the radio programs (although they too have the virus).Meanwhile, Bolt notes that

I wasn’t going to watch, but, like a trainwreck, I couldn’t look away.
Apparently there have been around 55 of these bombings and assorted attacks on shops and cafs deemed unislamic.
Also apparently, they aren’t the work of islamists, but of “vigilantes” or clan members using islamist rhetoric as a cover to settle scores.
Or, they could be the work of freelancers trying to get themselves a higher profile for whatever reason.
The idea that those proclaiming themselves to be bombing and destroying shops that are unislamic really are being good jihadis doesn’t seem to occur to those monkeys at Aunty.

Born under a scribbly gum in the Australian outback. Despite losing an apostrophe during childhood in a shocking tractor accident, I nevertheless achieved fame in the movie All About Eve. I have since become famous for both my self absorption and abusive postings through which I have achieved unchallenged moral superiority. Am now on a lifetime search to see whether it is possible to reach a higher plane by belittling others. Considered by many as most likely to be the real father of Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter.
Nice.
Sorry to bring the mood down, but this has got me fuming: Friendly fire death “unlawful and criminal”.
The money quote from the (obviously lefty) coroner: “I don’t think this was a case of a honest mistake. There is no evidence the pilots were acting in self-defence.” Apparently warplanes in a warzone mustn’t fire on what they believe to be enemy units uless it’s in “self-defence”!
There was utterly no evidence that they were acting deliberately, but that’s apparently of no consequence to this ****. This after hearing the in-flight tapes of the clearly distraught pilots!
I’m really starting to get sick of my own country. It’s not a nice feeling.
