NYT SILENCES DISSENT

The dangerous dissemination of left wing thought on the internet has been sharply reduced—thanks to the New York Times! The folks at Brooklyn’s Vox Pop cafe will be distraught.

UPDATE. The Melbourne Age, which already violated the NYT’s TimeSelect policy by publishing online a Bob Herbert column (the Times subsequently “contacted the client to ask that this not happen again”) has done it again, this time publishing Maureen Dowd.

  1. A case of social Darwinism if ever there was one.  Keep up the good work, NYT!

  2. Good thing nobody at the NYT has called the Age guys “arseholes” yet for their repeated contract violations, or Jaspan would fly off the handle again.

  3. I wonder if we could talk Daily Kos or DemocraticUnderground.com into doing this.  That would be Karl Rove’s greatest achievement.

By the way, Tim, watch out for those oxymorons: “left wing thought”.  Too many of them will crash your server.

  4. “The Melbourne Age . . . publishing Maureen Dowd.”
    Thanks for the warning.

  5. Vox Pop has a small publishing company, Drench Kiss, that operates out of its basement.

    Drench Kiss?

Hicks does not like the term “conspiracy theory” because, he says, “That assumes it’s wrong or not credible.”

Why on earth wouldn’t people think they’re credible?  They’re just alternative:

“I think there is a wealth of alternative knowledge out there that the American people are being kept away from,” he told me.

    See?

Around the corner and a million miles away from the yuppie leftists of Vox Pop, Coney Island Avenue hosts a large Pakistani community. It would seem to have little in common with the cafe — until you get people talking.

Men gathered at the Subhan restaurant don’t hesitate to say 9/11 is a government-sponsored atrocity.

I wish I could say I was surprised.  I really do.

  6. The NYT is doing us all such a huge favor, it’s astonishing when an institution takes such a significant, active step to make itself even less relevant when they are already in decline.  Someday this will be a great MBA case.

  7. Drench Kiss?  Sounds like some kind of lipstick.

  8. If you’ve read the MoDo piece (poor you), then you know she systematically trashes all of W’s female appointments as ‘insufficiently qualified’.  Only two questions:
If Bill Clinton had made comparable appointments, would MoDo be saying this?
Would MoDo consider herself insufficiently qualified for any of these positions?

  9. Is Modo qualified for the job she has now?  Of course, that job has been redefined as carnival freak (Fifty bucks to see the funny lady!) but still…

  10. Oh Bill Clinton made sure his appointments were sufficiently qualified for him.
Apparently when Monica was given a job at the White House people were very surprised because she was not wildly bright or talented.

  11. From Mo Do-

And now he has nominated his White House counsel and former personal lawyer, Harriet Miers, to a crucial swing spot on the Supreme Court. The stolid Texan, called “Harry” by some old friends, is a bachelorette who was known for working long hours, sometimes 16-hour days, and was a frequent guest at Camp.

Wow-how many double entendres can you cram in one sentence?

    Note from Rove:

Next available male of the species who happens to read this note-

You MUST appease Mo Do ASAP, extra points for creativity.

    Prize: To be announced.

PS- This could be a chance for wron wright to redeem himself or for paco “the monk” to prove he has the right, erh “stuff”.

  12. that job has been redefined as carnival freak

With Paul Krugman as the pencil-necked geek, and Frank Rich as the dog-faced boy.

  13. Hmm . . . .

“What is is about Bush and unmarried women?  Condi Rice is unmarried.  Harriet Miers is unmarried.  Heck, he even chose an unmarried woman to wed!”

  14. I wouldn’t wrap my fish and chips in the NYT,I’ve got too much respect for my stomach.

  15. IMHO, if the Melborne Age doesn’t print pirated stuff from TimesSelect, no one would bother to read Dowd, Krugman, Rich, or Herbert. MA is doing the NYT a big favor. Who wants to pay 50 bucks a year for that trash?

  16. Starboardside, what if the international supply of toilet paper suddenly disappeared?  Do you see a moral dilemma here?

  17. And the punishment for improperly publishing Herbert’s and Dowd’s column is being forced to read the damned things.

    Cruel and unusual, perhaps?

Too bad, us rightwing theocrats are running things right now, pardner.

    SMG

    pardner?
