NOW THEY HAVE GLOVES

Flashman sends word of a robbery committed by Sydney’s elusive Men of No Appearance:

One of the men was described as being about 180 centimetres tall, with a solid build. He was wearing rubber gloves, a brown hooded jumper, grey tracksuit pants and white sneakers.

The second man was about 164 centimetres tall, with a large build. He was wearing rubber gloves, a black hooded jumper, grey tracksuit pants and white sneakers.

Those descriptions—be alert for anyone wearing rubber gloves!—from the Sydney Morning Herald. As usual, police provide further details:

One male offender has been described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 180cm tall, with a solid build. He was wearing rubber gloves, a brown hooded jumper, grey tracksuit pants and white sandshoes.

A second male offender has been described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance, about 164cm tall, with a large build. He was wearing rubber gloves, a black hooded jumper, grey tracksuit pants and white sandshoes.

More on the SMH’s “we don’t report/you can’t decide” policy here.

  1. Why does the SMH bother with any description of the suspects at all? What they’ve reported is basically useless.

  2. Hopeless. What colour were the gloves?

  4. I wondered if maybe the SMH excised that information because it’s hard to tell the cultural background of someone who’s wearing a balaclava… but this just happens again and again.

  5. Maybe the SMH is in on these robberies. It would certainly explain their efforts to block the capture of perps.

  6. Hmmm, the SMH is not always reluctant to play the colour card:

TWO beaches, two reminders of the riots that shocked Australia: police at Cronulla revealed how they would keep the beach safe for summer yesterday, as officers in Maroubra investigated a new racist tack.

About 13 Vietnamese men and women were preparing a barbecue at Maroubra on Friday night when they were approached by a gang of up to 20 young men who tried to steal items from their cars.

When they resisted they were set upon. The car windows were smashed with a gas bottle and racist abuse was hurled.

Three members of the group were treated for minor injuries at the Prince of Wales Hospital. Last night police were still calling for witnesses to come forward.

A member of a group of youths from Chinese and Vietnamese backgrounds the Herald spoke to yesterday said it was common to hear racist slurs at Maroubra.

“Asians get shit everywhere, but you get more shit here,” said one young woman.

“You’ve got to get over it, what are you going to do?” said her friend, who identified himself only as John. “There is no point in revenge.”

The group, who laughed about being harassed by white children at the skate ramp at Maroubra, said they had discussed the Friday night attack before leaving their Liverpool homes for the beach. “You do have second thoughts about coming,” said one boy.

  7. Watch out if a woman (or man, for that matter) wearing a burka ever commits a crime in Sydney.  What would be left for the SMH to say?  ‘Police are looking for a, er, hominid biped lifeform of no known or unknown appearance’.

  8. The standard of investagative journalism at the Herald is none existent.  The collective of “luvvies” would have to study for a urine test.

  11. If they had velcro gloves we could safely assume that they were Kiwis.

  12. This place is fucked. I hope WA secedes in the near future so that we can stop the virus that is consuming the east coast from spreading here. It is no coincidence that red states are wielding power here. It is also no coincidence that those fleeing the British social engineering nightmare aren’t heading east.

  13. The SMH reported that they were wearing tracksuit pants?

This will only encourage attacks on those wearing tracksuit pants who are not engaged in sport.  That is a good thing.

  15. It would seem to me that in the absence of any description, pretty soon that lack would become a codeword for Muzzies, it was Muzzies, the Muzzies did it!!!!

Seems natural to me to think that, but then again - I’m mean.

  16. We are definitely seeing the same thing here in NYC.  They will tell you everything about the person except for the race or color of skin.  If the crime is committed by a caucasian with brown eyes or an African American with brown eyes, the description would be the same.  This means that you have to be on the lookout for anyone who is the right height.  Either that or just ignore the whole thing and hope the criminal leaves you alone.  These PC standards are going to be the death of us all before we are through.
