NON-ARGUMENTATIVE ENTITIES UNITE

Blair’s Law—or legge di Blair, considering the location—is again observed:

The secretary general of Italy’s largest Muslim organisation, the Union of Islamic communities in Italy, has called on Italian Muslims to vote for the Party of Italian Communists at the general election.

A Muslim-Communist alliance. No; an Italian Muslim-Communist alliance. Can’t see this ending in anything but placid harmony.

UPDATE. While we’re in Italy, anyone remember the weird Italian cartoon Calimero? A dubbed version ran Sunday mornings in Australia during the ‘70s. Mournful catchphrase: “It’s an injustice, it is!”

  7. Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing but your mini-skirts, Italian saugages, and Chianti to lose!

Oh, yes. Like the old Gary Larson cartoon showing a baby porcupine playing with a balloon, and the papa porcupine saying to the momma porcupine, “Well, this shouldn’t last long.”

  9. Of course Il Capo Mufti Italiani should support Il Communisti, because as he said they were previously “sensitive to the needs of Muslim inmates”. That’s clearly where the core of the Islamic vote is - in the slammer, presumably there’s not many on the outside.

  11. My parents used to tell me how they would write their relatives in Italy, telling them not to vote communist.  I wonder if I should drop my cousins a line.  Generally, my cousins there are conservatives (though one’s kid had a CHE! poster in his room).  But I also worry about pulling a Guardian.

    What do you think?

  12. Couple a failed religious ideology with a failed political ideology to run a country that hasn’t had a stable government in 60 years.  This is gonna be fun to watch.

  13. Why do disaffected minorities always turn to the Commies? The Muslim Union does know that Communists are godless, doesn’t it? Perhaps they plan on filling the void? I predict disillusionment ensues once the Islamists discover that even dedicated Italian Communists are fully invested in la dolce vita. Yeah, this will be fun to watch all right.

  14. I think that’s the catch, Rebecca…they must think that Berlusconi’s government just hasn’t been unstable enough for Italian purposes, so it’s time to try something, cough, new and exciting.

    Which are:

    1.  Kill everyone who disagrees with you.

    2.  Blame the West for everything

    3.  Go back to rule number 1.

  20. I think the new pope should run the country for a change, let’s face it, if the Italians in Australia can run for parliament and change laws for the Italian public then they might as well have Pope b run the joint. He could be the pope prime minister,  the Islamics would like to run the Italian country party.
