“NO CHANCE, FULL STOP”

John Howard rejects an invitation to embrace Hezbollah:

Prime Minister John Howard’s hand-picked Muslim advisory group has demanded to meet him to express its “outrage and anger” at the Government’s response to the killing of civilians in Lebanon.

The group’s chairman, Ameer Ali, is also pushing for Mr Howard to remove Hezbollah from a list of banned terrorist organisations, but the Prime Minister said yesterday there was “no chance, full stop” that the Government would rethink its position on that issue.

  1. Perhaps they should stage a hunger strike.  Do you have Jamba Juice bars there in Australia?

  2. The title of the article is “Muslim ‘Advisers’ Demands PM’s Ear”. Perhaps Howard is wisely taking them in the literal sense, and is simply trying to avoid decapitation in installments.

  3. “Hezbollah is the armed wing of the Shiite population in south Lebanon. They are not terrorists, they are fighting for their land, and there is nothing wrong in this.”

Oh, there’s so much “wrong in this”, it’s hard to know where to begin. For one thing, weren’t they already in possession of “their” land?

  4. ABC News online had this titled:

‘Drop Hezbollah from terrorist list: academic’.

Dr Ali seems to be a visiting fellow at the business school at Murdoch Uni. His ‘academic’ qualification had nothing to do with his views.

He also seems to forget that the UN Security council called for the disarmement of Hezbollah; I assume this means we will never hear this academic remark on Israel’s breaches of security council resolutions.

“It’s time you understood, the Jewish state will no longer be trampled upon. We won’t allow anyone to exploit population centers to bomb our citizens. You can condemn us, you can boycott us, you are invited not to visit us, and if necessary, we will stop visiting you.”

Guess it is less then the whole head, as is the usual want.

Good on ya’, Mr. Howard, as they say.

Oh the responsibility for ANY civilians dying in Lebanon, is at the hands of Hezbollah, Syria and Persia...PERIOD! Unfortunately none of that troika gives two damns, except for their propaganda efforts.

“no chance, full stop” REALLY means…“go shit, in your hat”. Been studying Australianese, I have…lol.

There was a link here that showed a heroic figure in front of an Isreali flag, similar to the propaganda posters of the third reich.
A further note:  Hezbollah today fired a rocket into the Palestinian West Bank - go figure.

No, it is a synonym for Manipulated Mob Rule in a dictatorship and Mass Intimidation in a would-be theocracy.

  25. I doubt moderates would give much of a fig about joining it unfortunately..  Normal sorts of people have better things to do than join these crap boards and pander to minorities etc…  So i guess we’ll just have to keep listening to the irrelevant crap that issues forth from this sheltered workshop of mussie spokespersons…

I know there are people here who will defend Lebanese people, or even Lebanese Christians etc as not bad sorts, but with the tidal wave of people wanting to get into OZ, and so us having the ability to legitimately pick and choose who comes here, I really wish the government would start analysing certain migrant groups (in terms of their history as to the ability to roughly assimilate, find employment, not cause trouble, take on roughly aussie values)..

And then start refusing entry visas to groups who over time have consistently shown an inability to fit into and contribute positively to Australian society, and instead give those opportunities to other groups (of any background) who will make a better go of the wonderful opportunities we offer them…

I think from what I hear of there goings on in NSW and others, the Lebanese would be a prime candidate for saying that the troubles you cause outweigh the benfits we get from having you here, and maybe some other group or nationality deserves your spots more, so no more migration (or very limited migration) from Lebanon in future…

They aren’t the only group who probably deserve a closer look, but they seem to stick out quite a bit in terms of the problems that seem to follow them…

Are we supposed to eat standing up and sleep hanging upside down from the ceiling so as to not be like them? Your statement is one of the most idiotic I have read in some time.

  35. #34:

And curiously enough, that seems to be the case with pretty much every government-created Muslim “advisory” group…I’m mindful of casanova’s argument (in #25) that moderate Muslims just don’t care to serve on these things, but one would assume there should be some available, given that the moderates are supposedly comprising this huge majority and there’s just a tiny bunch of extremists spoiling all the fun.

Not that I’m implying that assumption is a big pile of horse manure, or anything.

  37. #27 Obscure Number says: “is this how the government runs an economic illusion?”

I’d rather have Howard’s illusions than your ideas of reality.
Let’s summarise where we all are right now:

Left’s [and ALP] policy on Iraq and M-E:
    1. Saddam should still be in control, after 20+ years - we LIKE control.  Give him a fair trial, like David Hicks.
    2. Pull out all allied forces now after 3+ YEARS because ‘imposing democracy’ failed.
    3. Allow Ba-athists, Sunnis, Islamists, Iran etc to fight to the death for control of the whole M-E - we LIKE control.

    Left’s policy on Israel:
    1. Leave Hezbollah and Syria in control of Lebanon. [Principle: biggest army gets to rule.]
    2. Israel to pull all its forces out of Lebanon and Gaza [again] after 3+ WEEKS, also the West Bank, and apologise for all its undemocratic aggression over decades [eg: trying to force democracy on the PLO and Lebanon].
    3. Repeat third point above, but insist that Israel can only negotiate peacefully in future.

  38. #25- I suggest you read “Among The Barbarians” by Paul Sheehan, from of all places the SMH.

Can’t be all bad if it gives Tim Costello the shits.

To your list add Turkey, Vietnam, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Somalia, Romania, the PRC (refugee applicants especially) and a reasonable number of states from the former Yugoslavia- all are grossly over-represented in welfare dependance/fraud, criminal activity/incarceration, immigration fraud/misuse of reunion/spousal arrangements, tax evasion (not so bad as long as I can as well) and a complete lack of interest in intergration and celebration of western values.

No current party on either side of politics has the nads to take on the multiculti industry, cap and restrict certain ethnicities and seriously enforce welfare/healthcare abuse, let alone deport people who are an uninvited, unwelcome and continuing burden on our generosity , stupidity and fear of being labelled racist/xenophobic/uncaring/selfish etc etc.

The ALP in particular is due a considerable kick in the bollocks for filling the south-western suburbs of Sydney with a horde of hostile Hezbollah halfwits to hang on to a few seats they were in dnager of losing due to gentrification and increasing wealth of the working-class people of the area; the Australian economy and our society was crying out for an infusion of ignorant medieval atavists and illiterate, unemployable peasants to enrichen our bland cultural mix. Thanks, Bob and Paul!

(I had to giggle last night when ABC Lateline had Keating on to bleat about interest rate rises- he is after all an expert on the subject).

In a recent interview, General Norman Schwarzkopf was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness toward Hezbollah. The General said:

“I believe that forgiving Hezbollah is God’s function. The Israeli’s job is to arrange the meeting.”
