NEWSPAPER ATTEMPTS TO READ MINDS
The Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age ran similar front-page reports about the Iraq elections, written by the same reporter. Note the different headlines, however.

I thought SMH and The Age were as bad as each other. Ubelievable how The Age can twist a good news story into a bad news story. The Tullamarine Trotskyite surpasses itself.

Didn’t think so.
It seems that thw left does not think that little brown chappies deserve freedom from tyrannical murdering thuggocracies.
The MSM then simply ignored the story, the successes, the implementation of a peaceful, if imperfect, government in a place wracked by war for over two decades.
The process of minimising the importance of this and sneering that it is a meaningless propaganda ploy has already begun. In effect they are showing again that cold reality is to be dismissed in favour of their delusions.
This is an abrogation of everything they say they stand for. And that joy in abrogation of nbasic human decency if the reason I gave up on socialism and became what Podhoretz might classify as a modern realist. After all, ‘there is objective reality - deal with it’ HAS to be prefereable to denying that same reality and preferring your own delusions.
But to see the left so wrapped in their fantasies that they cheer murderers and sneer at hope is something I cannot stomach.
The left might not think the Iraqi election inportant, but THE IRAQI’S DO.
I’m on the side of freedom and a new start after a fascist national socialist dictatorship. The left is not.

CanberraSome people who work at these papers, and quite a few at the ABC, probably believe their role in life is to compensate for the evil right redneck views they see all around them.
Privately owned newspapers can answer to their shareholders. The ABC, on the other hand, should be a bastion of balance rather than a sanctuary of spin.Well okey so a small 60% minority of voters chose to collaborate with the imperialist occupation despite opposition from the heroic Iraqi resistance but despite the CIA-Haliburton fraud they still could not achieve the 100% turnout and 100% victory that Saddam achieved!

Quentin I still dont understand how the TLs of the world can sustain their argument. Forget the rhetoric and didactics and amatuer stats there is now a growing body of evidence that the majority of Iraqis are overjoyed at being asked to vote on the affairs of their homeland.
And that is it! in a nutshell! Iraqiis are now free to determine their own destiny!
Is that a bad thing?
Why do the TLs of the world work so hard to bring them down.
Up here in Queensland we always like to mix our serious news with a bit of sport (makes Weeties go down so much easier).
Front cover of The Courier-Mail, at least according to the web version, this morning had a picture of serial potential groom Hewitt and an article about Iraq.
To extend Murph’s analysis and pinch his link idea, something that was of interest to, well, me, was how few western feminists (given how important the vote is for women) are praising the women of Iraq for their courage or supporting the democratic process.
