Just one suggestion—in all fairness, G-Dub kissing Laura with genuine love and affection ought to go next to pix of Kerry kissing Teresa’s bank statement.”
* A Harvard student who opened a business cleaning his fellow students’ rooms is accused by the Harvard paper of “creating yet another differential between the haves and have-nots on campus.”
* Private Johnson Beharry is the first living man to receive the Victoria Cross since 1969.
* If you look at the nose of this year’s Ferrari F1 car you’ll notice that the parallelogram Fiat logo (designed in 1968) has been replaced with a logo featuring an asymmetrical A that first appeared in 1901. It its honour, Ferrari’s updated 2004 racers are travelling at pre-WWI speed in Malaysia.
* Around 150 anti-war protesters turned up to a demonstration in Canberra yesterday. A Lancet analysis put the figure at anywhere between 2,000 and 198,000. (UPDATE: “The antiwar movement’s failure to take root in the suburbs is one reason the movement is struggling to redefine itself and gain political power 2 1/2 years after hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to city streets in the run-up to the U.S. invasion.”) (UPDATE II: Felix Jackson, 11, is a Lancet believer.)
* Labor’s replacement for Mark Latham in Werriwa has won a 2% higher share of the primary vote.
* Tex reports: “Insane ‘futurist’ and serial media commentator Richard Neville is back, though his scribblings have deteriorated so badly you can’t even tell what he’s raving about anymore.”
I just love all the posters complaining that all this proves is that Chimpy voters are suckers for image and Kerry was obviously above crude appeals to patriotism, militarism, family values, etc.
Which is why he absolutely refused to drag his old platoon-mates onto the stage of the Democratic convention and accept the civilian candidacy by saying he was “reporting for duty,” as well as why he refused to waste time in his acceptance speech flattering his wife and kids, and instead devoted the entire speech to a point-by-point presentation of his plans for the middle east and fighting terrrorism.
Let’s make Tim Lambert checked that estimate before spouting off numbers, people. Wouldn’t want to caught out using a poorly executed study using shoddy statistics, now, would we?

And if anyone here hasn’t read the hilarious description of Kerry’s ceremonial first pitch at a Boston Red Sox game then check it out. Here’s a sample:
Kerry didn’t go all the way out to the mound. Perhaps he took a touch of advice from aides who had seen him warm up. He stopped maybe 45 feet from home plate. From there he threw the first pitch.
I say “threw” in the kindest possible way. Here’s what Kerry did: He raised his right arm to its full height. From up there, in an athletic movement seldom seen on a baseball field, he let the stiffened arm fall forward. At the same time, he splayed open his fingers in a way that allowed the ball to fall out. It bumped against the ground short of the catcher and in the right-hand batter’s box.
Now, anyone working in life’s Toy Department dare not suggest that a presidential vote be decided according to how a candidate throws.
Still. President Bush threw a World Series strike from 60 feet 6 inches while wearing body armor the month after 9/11. And he threw another strike opening this season in St. Louis.
So if we need a fastball at Osama bin Laden’s ear, I know which guy I want on the mound.

In my opinion, the Werriwa by-election result is reflective of the Governments falling popularity, and has little to do with the presence or absence of Mark Latham.
The result is indicative of rising interest rates and additional troop deployment to Iraq, both of which were unpopular within the community. Werriwa also has a higher than average mortgage burden, which may also explain the swing against the Government.
