NEWS BRIEFLETS
* Ward Churchill isn’t an Indian. He’s a Jewish feminist!
* Michael Moore is disturbed by “how easily the vulnerable can be manipulated, twisted by images on the screen.” I agree; Moore’s manipulation of vulnerable Paul Krugman verged on the abusive. Leave the feeble alone, Mike!
* To work at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, you must be proficient in hate speech.
* The SMH’s Mike Carlton launches another Iraq-as-Vietnam igno-rant, unaware that he’s been pre-empted by Christopher Hitchens.
* Janeane Garofalo doesn’t like the inky fingers. She also seems to have lost her mind. (More on the demented bint here.) (UPDATE: It’s Luft Amerika!)
* Crank up the Kofi-meter! The big guy has moved from “deeply concerned to shocked.
* Farewell to whiskey blogger Andrew Lloyd, a completely charming man who one day is bound to make a blogging comeback; and welcome to Mr Bingley’s Coalition of the Swilling, which has helpfully filled the booze-blogging void.
* Blogger Dawn Eden is no longer employed by the New York Post. Stay tuned for updates.
* Chris Sheil is holding tightly to his treasure.

In the Netherlands the national flag is now banned on most schools. If a student wears the national flag of his own country he will be suspended or expelled from school. The reason for this is that this provokes the immigrants (the muslims) and therefore it is considered discrimination if you wear your country’s flag in your own country. Even people who have an bumpersticker whit the flag on their car are harassed and called a facist by the Muslims. Most schools also ban certain clothing like the Lonsdale brand and combat boots with white or red laces. This is also concidered a sign of racism. There are of course no restrictions for the immigrants on clothing.Mike Carlton is partly right :
... the rotten edifice of Vietnamisation came crashing down but a few years later after one hefty shove from Hanoi.
A hefty shove with more tanks and armoured divisions than Hitler invaded France with, that is.He’s also partly right about the 83% voter turn-out in 1967 (for more than you really want to know, see
Re-Opening Old Wounds).Summary : Does that mean that the Iraqi election is discredited? Nope, it means that the Vietnam one was at least partly legit, imperfect though Thieu’s ex-military-junta government was. Hence the boat people that risked and sometimes lost their lives to escape afterwards. Saigon’s decidedly mediocre regime lost because the US was busy navel-gazing when a frigging HUGE army poured in from the North. The ARVN fought bravely at Xuan Loc, but as they only had a force there twice the size of Australia’s current regular army, and were outnumbered by 4 Divisions of the 5 army corps the North had (call it 5:1), they fought to the last rifleman (30% losses, ie virtually 100% of the infantry) but were overwhelmed.
If the US pulled out of Iraq tomorrow, and the combined armed forces of Theocratic Iran and Ba’athist Syria poured in, I’m sure the result would be much the same. And we’d have millions of Iraqi refugees, just as we had boat-people in the eraly 80’s.
Might doesn’t make Right, Mike, and the Good Guys don’t always win. Still, you never let historical facts get in the way of a good story before, so why change now?
Mike Carlton seems to have forgotten that only a few years ago, some people believed that AFGHANISTAN would turn out to be another Vietnam, e.g…

You know, not so very long ago, US Democrats were against National Socialism (such as the German NSDAP ‘National Socialist German Workers Party’ and Ba’athist ‘Arab National Socialist Party’ to give them their full names). Difficult to believe, I know, but it’s true.I salute Janeane Garofalo for taking such a courageous stand against the Zionist-dominated Republicans and their Media Lackeys (to quote several Democratic supporters).
A minor correction - the correct Aryan salute is performed with the right hand, but no matter. We all know what she meant. The picture of her courageous act is already making its way around the world, and is already in several influential Arab newspapers.
It’s good to know that all that Air America stands for is being so well publicised. But then again, I’m a RWDB.
*Sigh*
Not to go off-topic but…
Most schools also ban certain clothing like the Lonsdale brand...
To be fair, that may not be particularly related to Muslims. At least in Germany, Lonsdale (and another company named Consdaple) have been in hot water for a while over the unfortunate party acronym in the middle of their name, which tends to make their clothing very attractive to neo-nazis. I don’t think wearing their stuff was ever banned here though; and AFAIK at least Lonsdale have been trying to combat that public perception through ad campaigns, sponsoring anti-racism concerts etc.
Mike Carlton never lets historical facts get in the way of a good rant. Greg Sheridan’s simply makes the reasonable point that “vietnamisationâ€? was a successfully policy in achieving its goal of South Vietnam being able to handle its own internal security . By the time the last US ground troops left Vietnam in 1973, the main threat to internal security, the Vietcong, were well and truly defeated. The purpose of continuing US air support was to assist South Vietnam from external aggression from the North. At the critical point, this support was not there because the architect of that policy had been driven from office. Nixon wrote in his memoirs that if he were still in office at the time, Saigon would not have fallen as the air support would have been forthcoming. So if we have to engage in odious and distorted historical comparisons with Vietnam, the conclusion must surely be that the US and their allies must maintain military support for the new transitional government. Of course, the analogy is false because Iraq is not about to be invaded by any of its neigbours, and the so-called “insurgencyâ€? will run out of steam through want of popular support.
Anyway, I think we can discount the ravings of someone who described Sen Robert Byrd, a former KKK pointy head, as a man with an “admirable background who reminded him of Gore Vidal’s character in “Bob Roberts. Carlton, a 59-year-old with an earring and died hair is simply an eternal teenager who has never been able to get over the 60’s. I was unfortunate enough to here one of his condescending radio diatribes about the Murdoch press the over day. He followed up his diatribe by saying without a hint of irony
“but I write for the Fairfax press so I am probably biased.
I don’t think he realised just how uncharacteristically right he was on that score.Everybody is a fake Indian these days, not just Ward Churchill. The attraction is you get lowered expectations as an oppressed minority, as if you couldn’t expect to find an adult Indian out there, say one that’s gone native.
In the meantime, Churchill is a virtuoso dot-connector, and handy to have around in case someday his particular dots need connecting. He’ll then be the first to sound the alarm. There’s a chicken in Chinatown in NYC that consistently beats people at tic-tac-toe (``The chicken always gets to go first’’ is a common complaint, according to Calvin Trillin; also ``The chicken plays every day. I haven’t played for years.’’) and just like the chicken, Churchill will beat you to the alarm when you need it.
So he’s just another moron professor, no reason for outrage. Lots of people felt that the right response to 9/11 was B-52’s with ``NYPD’’ painted on them, not memoralizing. So he’s half right, if for the wrong reason.
Well, if he’s fired, which in my opinion would be a great mistake, he can open a casino

They are distinguished by militant posturing and excessively vitrolic rhetoric, mainly for ceremonial purposes, since this tribe rarely if ever acts on its bellicose statements.
It’s no wonder that Mike Carlton is becoming shriller and more hysterical with each passing post. The poor bastard’s world has been crumbling around him the last couple of years. Just think about it:

is doing some fancy dodging and weaving over
the motivation and credibility of people who joined the communist movement.
This came some time after a previous exchange where Chris had some trouble
grasping the issues.A quesion to Chris: if people joined the communist movement with good
intentions in the 1930s, when do you think they should have baled out?Chris: I give up. Under which year lies the prize? I’ll settle for a
mixmaster.Rafe:Let me make it easier.
People who joined the communist movement with good intentions to fight
fascism should have walked:
a) when the Moscow show trials demonstrated that the leadership was
demented.
b) when the mass murder of the small farmers showed that the regime was
psychopathic.
c) when Hitler and Stalin signed a pact.
d) when the Australian wharfies were sabotaging the war effort at the start
of WW2.
e) when Stuart MacIntyre joined in the 1960s.Comments (for an extra five marks)

libertarian. By all means, fussy yourself up pondering which judgement you
wish to pass next. The drums beat in anticipation. No doubt the clouds will

will form their own judgements, regardless of the Rafe Inquiry.Brief Newslet:
Former communist Robert Mugabe has had Zimbabwe’s “Parliament” pass a law restricting the right of charities to distribute food.
This follows previous “acts of parliament” restricting foreign press coverage of his crimes, or anything else.
He has stolen the people’s sovereignty, but nobody is doing anything about it. Now he intends to use starvation as power tool. That country is becoming tragic.
Over to you, Kofi. Write him a letter saying you are very, very angry.Boss Hogg — What I find absolutely mind-boggling about the Left, as personified in the signs they wave across the street from me every week, is that, as you itemized for the egregious Michael, not one thing they have been marching for and demanding (loudly, with very bad folk music) has happened or is going to happen. Never mind the Mildewed Movement types with their faded old UN and peace-symbol flags, I’m talking about the ones carrying the shiny new banner reading “Impeachment is Patriotic.” Do they really think, when the Republicans control Oval Office, the Senate and the House of Representatives, that there is the slightest chance President Bush would be impeached for anything? What the hell is their point?
Freedom of speech is all well and good, but do these people have the self-knowledge to realize that demanding things that cannot happen is embarrassing public folly?

Ward Churchill isn’t an Indian.
Well of course he’s an Indian (Native American) he’s a member of the ‘Wanna-Be’ tribe.
Or maybe it’s the ‘Where-the-fug-arwee’ tribe.
