MY SON ... THE NURSE!

Mike Nichols and Elaine May improvise during an early-60s recording session.

  1. I was sorry when Nichols and May broke up, because I always thought they were brilliantly funny together.  That bit made more sense back in an era when men were doctors and women were nurses, but they still make it funny.

  2. I remember that era.  The lady nurses wore white dresses and those cute little hats.  And white high heels and nylon stockings held up by garters .  Okay, maybe that last bit was a bit of embellishment.

The outfits of that time period certainly did wonders to perk up the spirits of any young lad.  Muuuuucccch better than the ugly looking scrubs they wear now.

Which everybody wears, so you can’t tell the doctors from the nurses from the floor-moppers.

  4. When the other kids played doctors and nurses they always made me the floor-mopper.

  5. A classic. Times have changed. A lot.
