MO DRAWN IN OHIO

As Neil Young once sang:

Mad mullahs and Allah’s comin’
We’re finally on our own
This winter I hear the drummin’
Mo drawn in Ohio

Young’s original version differed slightly. But Ohio Beacon Journal cartoonist Chip Bok sure is hearin’ that drummin’:

Several Northeastern Ohio Muslims and community leaders met Friday to express their concerns about the controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that have ignited outrage and violence ...

The Beacon Journal has not published the Danish cartoons. However, on Feb. 5, the Akron paper published a Bok cartoon depicting a pixilated picture of Muhammad on CNN. A couple in the cartoon said, “Well, no wonder Muslims are upset. Muhammad looks like he’s on acid."

That was enough to provoke a demonstration outside the paper’s offices and this outburst from Akron Amir A.R. Abdoulkarim: “Allah curses and condemns them and every Muslim in this community should curse and condemn them.” For drawing a pixilated image of Mo the Magnificent. Which was a much cleverer means of covering the issue than ventured by the New York Times:

The New York Times — the most important liberal organ in the country — chastised the Danish cartoonists and refused to reproduce the cartoons, instead bizarrely illustrating the controversy with a photo of a painting of the Virgin Mary festooned with elephant dung from a long-ago dispute at a Brooklyn museum.

Protests have also taken place outside of the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Protesters with signs that read “Irresponsible Journalism” gathered outside the offices of The Philadelphia Inquirer Saturday to condemn the newspaper’s decision to reprint a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad that had angered Muslims worldwide.

Catchy slogan. Might work better than United Against Incitement.

  8. When you’re training a dog to bring out character, you are not curious why he doesn’t hold a sit-stay near barking dogs.  You instead practice near barking dogs, answering his question ``Surely he can’t expect me to hold a sit-stay near barking dogs.’’ http://home.att.net/~rhhardin/sitstay.jpg

It’s clarity itself that’s at stake.

Trainers that talk about the dog’s being upset, eg the NYT, don’t wind up with dogs of character.

Clarity is called for.  More cartoons.  Practice till they get it right.

There’s a few centuries to go, but it can be done, at least with pre-PC ideas anyway.

There aren’t many rules, but you do have to be educated about them.

Wm Koehler _The Koehler Method of Dog Training_, whose key idea is Dog as Citizen, writes that there is about one dog in ten thousand that resents elementary training enough to attempt to bite ; for this see the section ``The Real Hood.’’ The other 9,999 times the point is easily made as described, taking failures as questions about the rule.

    Trainers welcome failures as opportunities.

Bottom line : failures are questions.  The NYT withholds the answer, leaving Muslims in the dark

Newspaper editorial boards representing about 99% of American circulation are now under the full control of Muslim outrage.  It will take the Muslims a few weeks to grasp their total victory over the American press, but when they do realize their power, it will be interesting to watch the American Press capitulate to more and more Muslim demands.

  17. blogstrop, I think more and more are coming to see that we are in a death battle with Muslims and their apologists [Liberals=Communists]. But I look for a big pounding of both of the latter.  They are all squabbling and gobbling like fowl - chickens and turkeys ready for slaughter. Both militarists and rationalists can see weaknesses in positions, especially when the opponents want to kill you and/or eliminate the possibility that you can even think. So far we have pulled our punches. But they will occur in full force when necessary - of that I have no doubt.  Because the militarists are also rationalists, and vice versa.  Btw, in lookin up “vice versa” in my old dictionary, I came upon def. #3 for “victim”: “A sufferer from any diseased condition or morbid feeling.” This is not what we are.

  18. Well, I think that its time that we all showed some respect for the followers of Islam.  We have found out that innocuous drawings of the paedophile prophet conflagrated the Mohammedans into a burning rage.

Why can’t we all just get along together?

I’m sure that if the Imams provided us with a list of things that really pissed off the Mohammedans, our politicians would immediately enshrine those taboos in legislation.

In fact, in order to forestall an overflowing of our Court and prison systems, I am sure those same politicians would kindly allow for such offences to be tried before a duly constituted Islamic tribunal.

Indeed, why tie up police time investigating offences against the new legislation - why not accept the offer of religious policemen being provided from the Mohammedan community, to help enforce the laws.

All of this costs, however, and we will have to pay the jizyra, to assist the Mohammedans defray these expenses.

    Everyone will be happy!

A pellet gun?!?!  No one in his right mind hunts quail with a pellet gun… a shotgun, sure, but not a pellet gun.

Maybe this is some Brit vernacular I am unfamiliar with?  If so, just goes to show how quick knowledge disappears when you have a blanket ban against something as basic as hunting.

The article gets it right later:
Dick Cheney, the US Vice-President, accidentally shot a man in the face with a shotgun while hunting for quail on a Texas ranch.

  34. #26 Patricia,

They’re close to as bad, I agree, but one paper out here in Denver, The Rocky Mountain News, while it waffled a little at first, has covered itself in glory relatively speaking by printing a small section on the cartoon mess, including a slideshow juxtaposing the bomb-turban cartoon with much worse ones mocking Christians and Jews, a piece by D. Pipes that’s quite Pipesian, and a balancing piece by the editor-at-large of the Beirut Daily Star with the SHOCKING title, “European arrogance the cause of Muslim anger.”

The Denver Post, by comparison, has run a couple of AP stories, a wimpy “this violence must end” editorial and a link to the cartoons on someone else’s site. That’s pretty much what the rest of the country did, too, isn’t it?

  36. Feb. 12, 2006 - We Really Need to Know Who the Fundamentalist Muslims Are.
An Open Letter to the Editor:

Some people have said they wanted the cartoons published to show what kind of people we were at war with. In my comments and in my blog (February 7, 2006) I said that my reason was that I feel that All religions should be off limits to derogatory speech.

Another and far more important reason for not publishing the cartoons was that they were so SILLY that when viewed they lead us to believe that the Muslims are beyond contempt and better laughed at. This would be a very serious mistake. The Muslims, even the so called moderate Muslims, are a very serious threat to our Western and Judeo-Christian beliefs and freedoms. Islam regulates every aspect of an individuals life. So you see, no matter how much we do, or how much we give in to their demands in the name of not offending their religion or the Prophet Muhammad, we will certainly offend in some way.  No, these people are certainly not to be thought of as silly or held in contempt because they are dangerous to our freedoms. They are demanding laws against denigrating their religion during these riots over the cartoons. We have to ask what laws the one against making an image of the Prophet Muhammad or the one against urinating standing up perhaps? The European countries are having a very difficult time with their Muslim populations as you have seen in the past months if you were at all aware.

In order to understand the danger our western freedoms are in we need to know these people. And I don’t mean the glib soft spoken denials of intolerance offered by Muslim religious leaders when they tell us how Islam teaches love, only love. Then they usually somehow before the interview is finished manage to admonish the West for some slight to Islam. These articles should be written by westerners who have studied the ways and actions and beliefs and give these facts to us from a Western point of view.

I would like to see the News and Record publish a series of articles on just what the Muslims have done over say the last 20 years by way of attacking the West. Tell us, or remind us how Hamas and other Muslim groups and Muslim countries have treated with the United States and the European countries. A time line of their activities around the world.

A few more questions that need answers are: do Muslims wish to dominate the world? Is our freedom of speech being curtailed out of fear of reprisal and if so why are we letting it happen? Finally, give us more information on the current leader of Iran. Who is he and what are his goals. I have been reading that he believes the 12th. Iman will return when the world is rid of infidels and he feels it will be during his lifetime and that he can make it happen by using nuclear weapons against the world? Is there any basis for this?

Now, Mr. Robinson I am sure if you do this it will certainly offend the Muslim community, but in view of what is happening all over the world at this time the public needs to know and understand and this should override any groups taking offence simply because they are embarrassed by the truth being exposed. And I will repeat, PLEASE do not get a Muslim to write these articles. We have heard from them enough telling us that Islam is not about what is happening but defending the right of the Islamist to riot and bomb and kill. Get Americans with no hyphen (as in Muslim-Americans) to write the articles for Americans.

  41. #36 BrendaFayBowers- good post.

A series of articles on what the Islamist have done over 20 years attacking the West - the results would depress you. There is only one thing that will save us from the Islamists - and that is the Muslims.

I mean of course the decent, everyday people who just happen to have been born under Islam, just as most of us are born under Christianity.

We may not be too impressed with Christianity, but we cruise along with it.

That is, until, some bastard pope wants us to reclaim the “Holy Land”. Then we would jack up. No WAY are we going to fight for any ratbag pope and his bullshit ideas.

Give us a gun? We would point it right back at any papist or Reverend Ian Paisley who expects us to kill for some other fuckwits religious frenzy.

Same thing with 99.9% of the decent Muslim majority. Muslims will resist other ranting Fundamentalist Islamist ideas, as much as Christians would and do.

Muslims will be the only ones who will, or can stop the Islamists.
