MIRROR TELLS IT STRAIGHT

Another example of the brave journalism not permitted in Bush Chimpler’s fundamilitaristic Christoholic hegemerica:

("I just happened to stumble upon the newest edition of the Daily Mirror newspaper which I’ve kindly attached,” explains reader Kent. "Okay, I ‘stumbled onto it’ via my copy of Photoshop. I think it sums up the point of view of a certain element quite nicely.")

  1. Speaking of media I’ve just watched half of the Channel 7 Leaders’ debate to put forward both aspirants to the premier’s position in W.A. Without intruding my personal politics I was amazed to view a polite, to my eyes unbiased and pleasant contest where neither participant was subjected to nastiness, belittling or sarcasm.I thought both contenders were showcased to their advantage and encouraged to present their most positive case.As a mainly ABC consumer I must admit to bias against the commercial channels’ ability to conduct such an event. It was carried out under the watchful and experienced eye of ex ABC presenter of many years Susannah Carr and one of the three journalist panel was ABC presenter of talkback and current affairs Liam Bartlett.Thank you Channel 7, what a joy and a privilige to see courtesy and politeness on all sides. You could show this debate to school children as an example of how things can be done. Also ABC take note you could lose your position as top dog in current affairs if the cred gap is not closed and the whining carping one sidedness and stupid childishness doesn’t cease from obscuring the merit of any serious subject. Bloody mindedness might feel great to its practitioners but it leaves your audiences cold.

  2. The Jihadi National Committee needs a storng, passionate leader to rally them in this desperate time. Savvy lefty bloggers nominate: Howard Dean! Yeaaawwwwwwww.

  3. Y’know, it’s odd. If they just took the top line of that cover and reasoned from there, they might figure something out.

There’ve been a couple of lefties scaring the horses with “...my $DEITY, what if Bush was right?” Seeing that topline makes me wonder if it might be happening in more places than might be apparent.

    Regards,
    Ric

  5. Crash, you are OT, but an interesting post nevertheless.  There is no reason why political discourse in a democracy can’t be conducted with dignity and courtesy.

I can’t recall where we went wrong on this.

Tim, can you think about addressing this issue?

  6. Yeah, great Kent. Love that sort of stuff. TNR has great roundup of the Arab press at http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=express&s=braude020205

The ABC must have a re-write man on the Libyan daily Al Zahf al Akhdar for example:
Headline: 27 People Killed in Iraq.

“Police sources in Iraq said that no less than 27 people were killed in attacks targeting voting centrers in sundry parts of the country.”

Voting centres? Wear the fox hat in the Mid East?

  7. Great work Kent.  I have had so much fun shoving this in the faces of my colleagues, particularly those who thought they were so smart showing me the original version.

  9. Talking of ABC bias, I see the feminazis at the people’s collective are working themselves into hysteria over the possiblity of abortion becoming a major political issue again. One pollie mentions the subject and it becomes a national campaign according to Your ABC, displacing Iraq, the wild weather, Darfur, Davos and whatever else, as the lead story in yesterday’s news bulletins. Chaos in the Coalition! The Government destabilised! the ABC shrieked, so desparate to find any little stick or should that be forceps, to beat John Howard with. Sheesh!

  12. Did Allawi actually win. From what I’ve heard, the Sh’ite majority has voted in their favored mullahs - not a good sign for democracy.

  14. Damn! I knew Richard Butler would be back.

A little tint of the eyebrows and he’s back in the Middle East.
