MILLIONS UNAFRAID
Enviromonk David Suzuki salutes brave folk:
Who can ever forget Rosa Parks, who became an icon of civil rights by refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in the segregated south?
Who can forget the lone Chinese protestor in 1989 who bravely showed the world his courage by refusing to move from oncoming tanks in Tiananmen Square?
Do read on. Suzuki believes these people are matched in heroism by the muppets who turned their lights off for Earth Hour, which “showed conclusively that there are millions out there who aren’t afraid to show that we care about the environment.”
“showed conclusively that there are millions out there who aren’t afraid to show that we care about the environment.”
Yeah, because there’s a huge physical risk in doing that. I know I warned a couple of people on my street to turn their lights back on during Earth Hour after I saw the anti-environmentalist tanks revving up down the block. Fortunately, they listened to me and their homes were spared.
I was afraid the High Priest’s promise to retire was, like so much else he proclaims, just a lie. I see and hear more from this numbskull than ever before.
Naturally he sees himself and his brave light-switching-for-one-hour brethren as heroes. Delusion is a necessary quality to be a top-level enviro-fascist.
Posted by Crispytoast on 2008 04 06 at 11:38 AM • permalinkHe, I know a lot of people who are afraid to show that they don’t care about the environment.
Posted by ElectronPower on 2008 04 06 at 11:41 AM • permalinkOh yeah, I see the connection. Rosa Parks…dark restaurants…electricity…White passenger. Uh huh. Sure. Bet Miss Rosa would have kept her lights on. The Earth Hour folks are like Jesse Jackson talking about his experiences with Martin Luther King. Funny, he wasn’t anywhere to be seen the other day….

Posted by Barbara Skolaut on 2008 04 06 at 12:12 PM • permalinkWhen we express our values, others take notice and we are energized by not being alone. And pretty soon a lot of inspired individuals start operating as a collective. And once this happens, unusual things occur.
Gulags. Economic collapse. Enforced conformity in thought and action. A veritable workers’ paradise.
‘We live in a free society and we are free to do as we please.’
A change in position is this not, from his view that public officials who doubt GW should be imprisoned?
Posted by Harry Eagar on 2008 04 06 at 02:27 PM • permalinkThat’s the problem for warm-fuzzy protesters. No one cares to threaten them.
They’ll need to invent an enemy. With the light-bulb makers now colluding with government on profitable regulations, it will be difficult.

O/T but in other fascinating Australian news, Father and daughter have child and oh yes, A South Australian police media spokesman told AAP “the couple is being monitored”..
When individuals do something beneficial for the environment—turning off the lights for an hour to show support for a good idea, or using energy-efficient appliances, or purchasing fuel-efficient cars—they aren’t just taking a simple action. They are expressing a bold statement about their values.
Let’s just ignore the millions who did nothing, and the millions (?) who said “Screw that for a joke” and arced up all their appliances and lights.
I say Hurrah for us!
David Suzuki and incest. What a combo for the start of the working week.
Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2008 04 06 at 06:41 PM • permalinkClearly David Suzuki doesn’t have to listen to Victorians go without electricity over the last week or so.
Posted by Admonkeystrator on 2008 04 06 at 08:27 PM • permalinkI always thought that David Suzuki was part of the Suzuki motor vehicles family.
Posted by stackja1945 on 2008 04 06 at 09:13 PM • permalinkI thought the tank guy was one of us.
He kept a column of not very fuel efficient diesel tanks idling and spewing out loads of CO2.
More evidence he is on our side : he did what he did using words and not even a single giant paper mache puppet.Posted by Col. Milquetoast on 2008 04 06 at 09:34 PM • permalinkYes, just like Rosa Parks and that fellow in Beijing, the heroic participants in Earth Hour bravely risked direct confrontation with the authorities.
Oh wait, no. The authorities approved of Earth Hour.

Who can forget that Bonmot turned all his lights on during Earth Hour. Along with air con, microwave oven, TVs + DVD, all exterior security lighting, fax, PC, heaters, wshing machine, dryer….
Oh, the heroism of it.Things are so bad in Australia that Americans have taken to buying the last of the V8 interceptors from main force patrol officers and their dogs. Because if those Holden Caufield V8 XP GTRs were still out on the roads, they’d be used to run down hapless Aussie environmentalists.

God, that engine sounds great at 4:50.
Horrifying thought: what if Lord Humongous and the Mighty Wez were actually Green Party members? This would explain a lot. Perhaps everything. They were after the juice to destroy it!
Posted by Ernst Blofeld on 2008 04 07 at 12:33 AM • permalinkI’m afraid of Suzuki because he would have me imprisoned for disagreeing with him.

And I’m not afraid to declare to the entire world that Suzuki is an idiot of the first water.
