MECHINCS DEBUNKEN

C.N. Kemp takes issue with last Saturday’s column:

I totally disagree with your comments about Loose Change 2. You cannot dismiss what is revealed and accept fully the “official” version. It is quite feasible for what is alleged to happen. Is someone said what was to occur prior to the event, you would certainly question their mental state, but this is now acceptable. The jury is still out as to how it happened.

And it will ever be so, at least for your truther types. Reader Ric emails:

You do not deserve your position of authority, and should be sacked. This of course is prior to being found guilty in a court of law to treason.

No matter where you go or what you do, the eyes of someone are always watching you.

Perhaps those eyes belong to Newcastle University’s Thomas C.:

upon reading your attepmt at “journalism” on saturday i morning, i couldnt help but just shake my head in disbelif yet laugh as to how you actually get an entire page to yourself in a second rate tabloid trash paper such as the telegraph ...

since your publication you have infuriated alot of people, members of my univeristy and others are preparing to make a campaign agaisnt you, you clearly deserve it.

the world doenst need anymore false properghanda trash as yourself and your blogging, i suggest you actually watch loose change version 1 and 2, and see 3 in cinemas when it comes out, (dont you think the world is onto something when the third installment gains cinema disribution?)

Cinema distribution = truth. “Hi Goose,” begins Frank Saez’s chatty note:

Surprise, surprise. Another mainstream journalist pushing the agenda of those who control and basically own us. It doesn’t take much inteligence to dish the crap that your article has tried to portray. Your article is obviously not aimed at the readers who have the ability to think for themselves …

The conspiracies regarding 9/11 are not only convincing they are overwhelming.

However, the most outrages conspiracy theory that I could not accept was the one concerning the scenario were 19 arabs, with the intent of ramming various buildings, were able to hijack 4 planes in a country with the most sofisticated security system in the world, controlled by another arab from a cave in Afganistan, and actually pull it off. If you believe that then you probably also in the official story on the Kenndy assasination.

They killed Kenndy? Bastards!  Jeff Denmeade asks:

are you now a US government distributor of information?? I’d hate to think they’ve penetrated our great nation also.

Too late, Jeff. Count me among the penetrated. Reader comments continue rolling in at the Telegraph, too, including this:

If you actually did some research you wouldnt know that popular mechincs been debunken nurmerous times.

That’s how research works; the more you do, the less you know. Debunken!

  5. So many pointed heads, so little tinfoil.

BTW- did you know Churchill instigated the invasion of Poland in order to get rid of the pacificist Neville Chamberlain? They weren’t Sausage-Eaters who blitzkrieged their way to Warsaw, it was actually a group of Boer mercenaries, recruited by the warmongering Churchill during his stint on the High Veldt; the Huns never had any territorial ambitions, Hitler really wanted to use his democratically elected position to urge Germans to join a united Europe, a sort of early EU. This was all scuppered and millions killed to satisfy the lust for power of the evil Churchill. (Who like his distant royal relatives is really an alien lizard. And that’s another thing- Churchill was in cahoots with the British royal family, who were outraged that their fellow hatchling the Kaiser had been deposed by the democratic nazis, and wanted to destroy Germany for thie insolence. The evidence just keeps building).

i was recently lent a copy of it on dvd and noticed a few scenes missing, those being at the end with the kevin barrett interview on fox (the scholar teaching conspiracy theories)and jason bermas talking at the american scholars symposium and the explanation of the wtc and freefall speed, yet i swear my dvd player still said it was 1hr 29 mins.
to be fair it is a copied dvd so i thought that might have something to do with it until i found a version on google vids with the same scenes missing and claims to be only 54 minutes long.

can anyone shed any light on this please? ”

Of course, these paranoid trogolodytes are probably convinced The Government is keeping track of who votes for who via top-secret ballot DNA tracing (all in preparation for the imminent cull), so they’d never come within a hundred yards of an official government tracking facility like a polling booth.

After all, if these amoebas are convinced a government would successfully pull off the most convoluted, bizarrely inconsistent and physically-impossible plot of all time, one which would be ridiculed mercilessly if it showed up in a novel, to murder its own citizens in order to ‘grab oil’ or whatever the fuck the reasoning is, why on earth would they trust the election process?

It seems to be characteristic of believers in conspiraciy theories that they will dismiss an actual conspiracy, in this case one Osama has bragged about publicly, while unreservedly and credulously believing even more outlandish fake consiracy theories.  It was this sort of thing that blinded Stalin to Hitler’s coming attack in 1941.

This is about one out of seven mental adolescents between the ages of 15 and 65. The rate in other countries appears to be similar, which calculates to almost 200 million worldwide. Fortunately, each year, as a conspiracy theorist grows, common sense cures about 15% of the knuckleheads affected. Thus, most will “out-grow” it. But during the time when a person suffers from Trooferism it can seriously affect his or her life as well as that of the family. And 3% do not outgrow it!

Trooferism can be an agonizing problem, but there is a great deal that can be done about it.

  85. Not only that, I recieved an email from Ticketek this morning (which I scan through to see if there’s anything worth getting off the couch for, and I’m usually disappointed) and among the dross on offer were gold pass tickets for Big Brother, at a very reasonable premium of $119.50. Who the fuck parts with 120 beer vouchers to traipse halfway to the Gold Coast, perch on horrible stadium seats to sit through the inane conversations and pathetic fumblings of pissed bogans? you can get the same for free, with half the travel just by dropping into Fitzys bar at the Loganholme Tavern.

Also notable is the seemingly endless supply of said idiot bogans to fill the cast of this criminal wate of electrons.

I’ve come up with ideas in the past ot make it watchable, such as hermetically sealing the set and introducing the Ebola Virus into the ventilation, or having Ivan Milat as a contestant, but none of these have been picked up by the network and I just can’t be bothered any more.

Last year’s idea was a winner as well, but unfortunately no longer feasable- replace Gretyl Kileen with Abu Musab el Zarqawi, and rather than be voted out of the house the “evictee” is dragged out by hooded gunmen, clad in orange overalls and slowly beheaded with a blunt butter knife. It would’ve boosted ratings here, and made a bundle in syndication to Gulf state networks.

  86. I like Mike Carlton and Sussex Street’s Opus Dei conspiracy. It goes like this:

David Clarke, commander of the Pope’s Own Highland Albino Martyrs Brigade, removes John Brogden (a Catholic) and replaces him with Vatican stooge Peter Debnam (a Protestant) so as to prevent Barry O’Farrell (a Catholic) from taking the New South Wales Liberal Party leadership.  All this being the first step in promoting Sophie Panopoulos (a Greek) to Grand Inquisitor of Australia.

    But I’ve discovered more:

Morris Iemma’s election web site bore the slogan “family, faith and community.”

Meanwhile, a former senior Provisional IRA member is attempting to take over the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and has luanced an anti-sodomy magazine dedicated to “Faith, Family and Country.”

    Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Morris Iemma is clearly an IRA/Vatican stooge.

    But it doesn’t end there.

The governing party of Ireland, Fianna Fáil, is in coalition with Italy’s National Alliance in the European parliment. The same National Alliance to which Benito Mussolini’s granddaughter, Alessandra Mussolini, was a member.

    Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Also if you add up the letters in David Clarke, Peter Debnam, John Howard, Joseph Ratzinger and Mimi Macpherson it equals 61.

    Makes you think doesn’t it.

  92. What do you think Thomas C is doing at Newcastle U?

Initially I thought maybe maths, because of his poor grasp of English and how it is written.  But maths types usually understand and appreciate logic and I see no evidence of that in TC’s spray.

Then I remembered reading something by a person (probably someone here) who teaches statistics to teachers who are trying to better themselves <strike>(get out of actually having to teach?)</strike>.  That person remarked on the fact that when statistics demonstrate that something the teacher dearly believes in is very unlikely to be true the teacher tends to prefer to hang on to the dearly held belief.

So I’m thinking TC is doing a B.Ed.  Either that or social work.

Years ago I tuned into a radio program about how wounds on the human body can literally (sic) speak about the incident can caused them.  It was so plausibly written and and spoken that it took ten minutes for it to sink in that it was an ‘arty’ pseudo-documentary from PBS.

And aint nothing you’ll ever be able to do about it, ‘cept write out your frustrations on yet another of those paranoid blog sites the stable schizophrenics set up. They hollow out a termite mound place the fruit inside & wait for the monkey to reach inside to grab a morsel. The natives strike from cover, the monkeys see them coming but can’t escape because they just won’t let go of the fruit. It means their death but they just ain’t smart enough to recognise the danger.

How many of these idiots believe in the Moon Conspiracy as well? I would bet the only way you could try and convince them that man actually walked on the moon is to fly them there and show them the landing sites. 136. Its become obvious that the reason behind the entire ‘truther’ movement is that 9/11 completely screwed the hard-left pacifists worldview:
    1. there are no enemies to the hard-left’s left
    2. there is no reason to ever go to war
    3. there are no external enemies of America, only internal conservative enemies
    4. white people are always the oppressors, never the victims
    5. George W. Bush (and the Republicans) must never get credit for doing anything right, for doing anything for just motives, or for succeeding in any way, shape or form

9/11 so wrecked this world-view that the hard-left’s entire universe was rocked. The only solution was obvious: it didn’t happen. There are no Islamofascits. Osama and Al-Qaeda are not and never have been a threat to the US. Saddam had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda in any case, and he himself was never a threat to the US.

9/11 was an inside job by the internal enemies of the US, with Al Qaeda used as a scapegoat. Osama was happy to take credit to shore up his bona fides among the faithful. GWB used 9/11 to consolidate power and use it in the Middle East to avenge his Dad/grab oil/what have you.

Trutherism is an example of the Big Lie. Tell it loudly and often enough and people will start to believe it, against all rational evidence to the contrary.

Ignoring the easy grammatical target of “debunken”: No. No, it has NOT been debunked. It’s yet to be debunked. PopMech’s book and article has been disagreed with, but none of the challenges has managed to actively prove they’re wrong. Go read David Ray Griffin’s various debunking attempts of the PopMech article as an example: I’ve never seen so many points conceded by an opponent who then tries to claim he’s successfully disproven the very points he concedes. The ones he opposes, he either merely provides “possible” alternative explanations, or he comes up with ridiculous apologia (his argument that of course it doesn’t resemble standard controlled demolition because it wasn’t “standard” completely misses the point of the assertion PM makes: That is, all the other conspiracy fantasists keep saying the WTC collapses were “obviously” CD. DRG’s explanation essentially becomes a contradiction: It obviously was controlled demolition because it looked like it, but it wasn’t obvious because it was non-standard. This is what the so-called truth movement calls a “debunking”.). Or, he obsesses over irrelevent minituae (re: Benjamin and Michael Chertoff being related; even if they were, and it’s very possible that they are, how does that invalidate the facts of the article and book, facts reviewed by many more experts in relevent fields?). But he doesn’t “debunk”. He doesn’t come close.

When one of the members of the so-called truth movement manages to construct arguments along the lines of “This is what Pop Mech says, this is why it’s wrong”, then they’ll be on the way to a debunking. Proposing alternate possibilities is only debunking if the alternate is more probable, passes the Occam’s Razor test, or otherwise proves a better adherence to the observed facts of the collapse or provides testable predictions. Proposing alternates and then asserting the mere existence of those alternate arguments somehow proves the original topic wrong is so far from debunking that it’s amazing they’re trying to even support the presumption. Griffin has not debunked anything; you have to be at your most charitible to even concede that he’s raised legitimate alternate possibilities.

Don’t let anyone who makes the “Pop Mech is debunked” claim go unchallenged. No conspiracy fantasist has successfully and fully “debunked” PopMech, or even cast any doubt. Those folks are continuing to merely parrot what others say without studying the original sources, in this case DRG’s supposed debunkings as well as the PopMech works.

  149. Interesting, RodC, but I went to MLC Burwood in Sydney.

It’s still a church private school.
