LOCAL CARS FOR LOCAL PEOPLE

Inner Melbourne is rancid with Greens, so it’s no surprise that residents support moves to ban cars in Brunswick Street. Meanwhile, the same area has one of the city’s highest levels of car ownership:

Isn’t that fantastic - all these so-called green-loving Fitzroy residents calling on the rest of Melbourne to keep their cars away from their neighbourhood and blaming us for their traffic woes, while their cars take up more street frontage than their single-fronted cottages and terraces.

Fitzroy’s hypocritical greens are also notorious waterswine.

With the Liberals announcing on Friday that they would direct their preferences to the Greens in four key inner-city seats, including Melbourne, Labor now fears that Ms Pike will be defeated.

why on earth is the Liberal party directing preferences to the Greens? Is it just to undermine Labor? Seems counter-productive to me.

There’s Greeks across the road, and Turks over there, their terrible music is tearing at the air; I’ve got a hangover which I reckon isn’t fair, I reckon Brunswick’s had it.

Like everywhere infested by outer-suburb refugees, they bring their idiotic small world collectivist gibberish with them- they’re a worse blight than rats. At least some local authorities have a means of ridding the burough of such vermin; if left to their own devices they wind up running for public office.

Yeah, the leftys have been doing that in Berkeley for years.  They block off all the streets so that cars can’t drive on them (except for cars belonging to residents), then on weekends they get on their bicycles and ride out to my town and ride ten abreast so that they can block traffic in my town too.

    Assholes.

Habib: you probably already know this, but Brunswick Street isn’t in Brunswick (but Brunswick Road is).  Brunswick people would be too down to Earth to try something like this.  I’m surprised rising property values haven’t driven out all the bums yet, but then it has a stack of high-rise welfare swamps.

These same clowns sporadically protest against the traffic on Alexandra Parade.  The same people would probably protest against a tunnel to solve it.

  21. O/T

Don’t mean to go off topic so quick but I have some beautiful french cut racks of lamb ribs for Easter dinner tomorrow (family coming, and they like their meat). Being a Midwesterner, (US) we tend to go for the dry rubs on meat such as this.  All the recipe’s I’m finding have some type of sauce and are all oven baked.  I want to do these on the grill (lamb on the ‘barbie’) with indirect heat and I’m thinking of apple wood for the smoke.  Any one have a good spice rub for these? Should I use a different wood?(especially our aussie or kiwi friends that seem to have a penchant for lamb) well at least I think Sam Kekovich might be able to help!!!

This is your assignment, should you choose to accept it…(help a seppo to not ruin some lamb)

  22. #15; I’m thinking about it, what next? Actually, I would not be disposed to nuke inner city suburbs because there are some very nice bits of architecture; as for the greens, I feel the brand has lost its cachet; before any one can claim to be a green I would suggest they have to spend a year in a designated wilderness nude; applicants can have the choice of a hot or cold wilderness, since this is the era of AGW, but it has to be a year and they have to be nude. After doing that I reckon they may have a bit of moral authority. And the select few who make it will be more than offset by the attrition rate.

Don’t try to do to much.
Lamb is a tasty, tender meat that doesn’t really need to be smothered in lots of stuff. It should be nice on its own with just some basic things like garlic, salt and pepper.

    Standard gravy works well (brown gravy, not that white goo I’ve seen referred to as gravy in America);
Mint sauce is a traditional condiment for lamb, although I’m not sure how you’ll go finding some. I guess you could make it yourself…

Indirect (baking) method - in last 10 min of cooking, can baste in any sugary conserve (jam/jello) - just brush it on in-situ with a basting brush - per daddydave - prolly in moderation - any conserve should suffice - a smear of mint jelly could be OK - ensure not to cook for too long though, so that the sugar doesn’t burn

If it’s like a rack of lamb, or a leg of lamb, jab a knife in to make deep slits and poke some chunks of fresh garlic and sprigs of rosemary into it.

That’s kind of what I was thinking of doing (without the sauces) I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t screwing it up.  Don’t ever go to the Kentucky Derby and order a Hot Brown without the “White goo”.....you might get run out of town!! ;-)

    #31 kae,

Probably too late for me to get fresh garlic, but I have some minced garlic to poke into it, sounds good.  Also, I’m not really gonna smoke it, not through.  I have a few chunks of hickory, apple, and cherry in the garage.  When I cook on charcoal I like to throw a few slivers on the coals to get some smoke flavor in the meat, not much, just a little….bad idea for the lamb?

I wouldn’t smoke lamb. At all.
Aside from the fact that it’s a bitch to roll, I reckon you’d ruin the flavour of the lamb. If it’s real lamb, it won’t need anything except the garlic and the rosemary - granulated garlic’s OK but I prefer fresh myself, and the same with the rosemary.
Leave the fat on the outside, too. Adds to the flavour, after the fat all melts out… mmmmmmm barbequed lamb skin…. yum.

Hey, you’re having an Australia Day barbeque!!

  38. #37,

We’re about ready to head to Easter service.  Finding someplace open to get fresh garlic and rosemary will be nearly impossible (nothing like waiting ‘til the last minute)  I’m not a big fan of sweets and meats but will give the mint sauce a try, others in my family will like it I’m sure.  Thanks for the help, I’m off to church!!

BTW - the back up plan is a big ol’ spiral sliced ham in the oven!!!  That and I don’t have much lamb….it’s freaking expensive here! Oz’s wines are a lot better priced than your ham!!!  (Bottle of Yellow Tail Shiraz cooling off now…)

Agreed.  It just won’t stay lit, no matter how much you shred it and dry it before you roll it up.  Not as bad as trying to smoke beef jerky, but still plenty annoying.  Plus which, the convenience stores around here don’t even sell rolling papers any more!  What’s this world coming to?
