LOCAL ANGLE MISSED
Benon Sevan is winning some Australian coverage:
The former head of the scandal-ridden United Nations oil-for-food program has resigned, accusing the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, of using him as a scapegoat to save his own political future.
Benon Sevan, who was on a token $US1-a-year contract, left before a report by the former chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Paul Volcker, which is expected to accuse him of soliciting allocations of oil and having unexplained wealth.
When Sevan was goofing about in Australia before the UN was pushed into investigating him, few here seemed concerned. Times have changed.
Oops. PIMF.

FURY OVER MUSLIM BIAS!
BBC bosses faced a furious backlash last week after they PACKED a t.v. TERROR debate with Muslims(shades of abc, sbs.)
Angry viewers complained that the programme was anti-British and failed to offer a balanced view on the danger posed by Islamic extremists.
They were incensed that the opinions and feelings of the victims of the London bombings were not given enough airtime in BBC 1’s Questions of Security.
Instead the “news special” which was watched by millions was dominated by militant factions in the audience. They were critical of the police and security services.BBC bosses ADMITTED THEY DELIBERATELY SET OUT TO GIVE MUSLIMS A LOUDER VOICE IN THE DEBATE HOSTED BY HUW EVANS.
a bbc spokesman said the intention had been to ensure as wide ranging a debate as possible.following on BBC article-Despite Muslims making up only 2.7% of Britain’s population,15 % of the audience were from the Islamic community.
Last week the corporation was accused of insensitivity and FAILING IN ITS DUTY TO BE IMPARTIAL.
The criticism comes weeks after the bbc was roundly condemned, following reports that its news presenters had been told not to use the word “terrorist” when referring to the bombers.
In response to the criticism,Sue Inglish, head of political programmes, said the AUDIENCE HAD BEEN PICKED FROM A RANGE OF COMMUNITIES,PARTICULARLY THOSE MOST AFFECTED BY THE ATTACKS OF JULY7 AND JULY21.
She said"the aim was to gain by a wide ranging DISCUSSION ON the KEY ISSUES like POLICE POWERS, THE ROLE OF MUSLIM LEADERS,PREVENTING MORE TERROR,THE IRAQ WAR,ASYLUM PROCEDURES AND SO ON.”ANOTHER headline...GEORGE GALLOWAY’S BILE “putting our troops in danger.
G.W. was last week accused of putting British soldiers at risk by describing terrorists in Iraq as “martyrs”.
In a series of rants on Arabic t.v. channels the maverick m.p. said Tony Blair and George Bush were THE REAL TERRORISTS and that insurgents in Iraq who are killing coalition forces and Iraqis almost daily were waging a “LIBERATION” struggle.
The outbursts from the former Labour m.p.,who now represents the Respect party(anti war)he founded, provoked outrage.
Labour m,p. Eric Joyce,a former Army major, said he put the lives of british soldiers at risk and devalued the lives of the soldiers.
Shadow foreign secretary Liam Fox added,"even by Galloway’s standards this is a particularly bilious outburst.
But Galloway called the accusations “absurd” adding “The people who have put british troops’ lives at risk are the people who sent them to war on a pack of lies.”
He told Syrian t.v."the idea that Muslims have some kind of sickness in their bodies, which must be cured -it must be resisted. Its not the muslims who are sick.”
On Arabic news broadcasting t.v. he said “most of the children who had died in Iraq were the victims of Mr Bush, not abu musab al Zarqawi, the man blamed for the bombings and murders, including beheading Briton Ken Bigley.and
Re the (tragic) race hatred murder of Anthony Walker.
“on the very evening that Anthony was attacked in Liverpool, further south a young man was subjected to a murderous assault.Richard Whelan,28 year old hospitality agent was sitting on a bus in North London with his girlfriend when a fellow passenger started shouting abuse and throwing chips at them.
Whelan asked him to stop but was then knifed repeatedly. He died soon afterwards in hospital, while his assailant fled into the night.
This incident has received nothing like the attention of Anthony’s killing, though they both happened at the same time. The crucial difference is that in Whelan’s case the victim was white and the murder suspect was black.
The disparity of coverage points to a worrying double standard in our society. It seems that in multi ethnic Britain,we are reluctant to face the fact that racism can occur in all communities, that racist killings can be perpetrated by any ethnic group. In Whelan’s case the police DELIBERATELY REFUSED to ascribe any RACIAL MOTIVATION,claiming that “anybody could have been a victim of this Totally unprovoked attack."This is so often the pattern where the victim is white.
Our public services, since the 93 murder of Stephen Lawrence, have been gripped by a McCarthyite witch hunt against any perceived racial prejudice, again with the presumption that racism is entirely the fault of white people.Lawrence was not the only teenager to die at the hands of a gang of different ethnicity to his own.e.g.in 04 16 year old Ashley Hedger was stabbed to death by an asian gang in east London.
Roshan Singh,a local storekeeper witnessed and described it.In 94, 15 Year old Richard Everitt was hacked to death by a group of asians. Predictably the police said there was no evidence of a racial motive.Today Everitt’s name, unlike Lawrence’s is totally forgotten.Yeah it did make the 7.30 report with grumpy old Kerry. The u.n. I mean, not the scandal.
Instead there was a GOOD NEWS story about volunteer for the u.n.,Rodney Cox.Very nice subject, very neat evasion of journalistic duty.7.30 still smells.Besides they allowed themselves the further indulgence of more time with bill bleak.Goodness wasn’t 4 cnrs enough and all that free publicity on Insiders? He’s been selling himself and his two new books on abc radio as well.He enjoyed trashing Howard and Downer. However bleak seems to be mistakenly assuming someone else’s persona with his falsetto “oh
look mummy,I’m the foreign minister”...er?Firstly, I am greatly heartened by the news that Bill Leak has written a novel. This is often a sign that someone has started to lose the plot, so to speak. Secondly, I see from the promos that apparently Bill has a bit of a problem with the bottle. That would explain a lot. His take-off of Downer was both sickening and sad: like watching some bit of psych-clinical footage that you were never meant to see.
Speaking of local angle, anyone notice that the moron “Aussie terrorist” says Palistan instead of Palestine?
What a fucking tool.

Did anyone catch KRudd’s comments that he was sickened by the ozzie terrorists comments and how the government had to give the intelligence agencies all the resources and support they needed to catch this guy?
Pitty the ALP left is sick like KRudd, they’re sympathisers at the best. Maybe Tanya Plibersek can help KRudd get better with a bit of root causes counselling. Oh by the way, wasn’t it the ALP and KRudd that continually blocked and amended (ie watered down) all those powers and legislative support that the Govt wanted to give to ASIO, ASIS and the AFP?
Nice back flip KRudd, but it doesn’t wash even with us the great unwashed!

Given the Russian has apparently already plead guilty to three counts, I expect the floodgates to open wide very soon. It’s going to be like a giant enema was given at Turtle Bay. I expect to see manure flying everywhere.
