LIVE EARTH GOES STAND-UP

Ben D. emails from Japan:

I’m watching Live Earth in Tokyo (just for the music, of course). The singer AI asked her audience: “Is everyone going eco?”

The crowd just laughed. I love living in this country.

  1. I think she meant to say: Is everyone going cuckoo?

  2. Yes, let us abjure technology in a country of 100-150 million people jammed onto islands thirty miles wide…

  3. I’m reliably informed that the appearance of Al Gore on a live satellite video hook-up wearing speedos in anticipation of the revival of the concert in Rio De Janeiro has effectively ended the global warming hysteria. People the world over are now willing to die in order to rid themselves of that ghastly image.

  4. After listening to part of the London concert I was praying for one of Gore’s 60 foot waves to come rushing up the Thames.

  5. I saw (not by design) a few early bits of the London gig.
I guess Genesis were just having a quick warm up for their gig at Twickenham tomorrow, which I’m going to see.
Also, I heard David Gray singing ‘Que sera sera’, which I think is appropriate as the climate will do it’s own thing in it’s own time. I wonder if anyone else got that irony.
Apart from that, there was a lot of the expected sanctimonious twaddle which drove me away pretty quickly.
Last point, I’m posting from the local pub.
Long and far may free public wifi access spread! (Can’t have a ciggy inside though.)

  6. Speaking of stand-up, spokesman of the Live Earth concert in Germany, Frank Ehrich, in reply to concerns that the whole thingie might do more damage to precious Gaia than it helps: “We are using lightbulbs that emit very little CO2.”

    I kid you not.

  7. I intend to drive a lot this weekend.  It’s o.k. though, as my Ford Ranger is designated a “low emissions” vehicle.  Which just means I have to drive more.

  8. In honor of the butterfly effect and Live Earth.

    Butterfly, butterfly, changing the plan,
Can you help Algore as he’s leading the band?
He’s crumbling, he’s crumbling, as things get too hot,
But why can’t he see, the band’s helping, is …. Not!

  12. Man, there’s so little strong feeling about Live Earth, even Tim’s comment threads have gone dead.

  13. Of course, man!  Everyone’s at LiveEarth.  Over half the civilized world is participating.  You don’t know it, but you’re there too.

  14. I was burning up today. You people really have to get on the ball—outside! rev those engines now! Keep ‘em running until glaciers crush Algore’s Eco-Mansion.

  15. I saw some of this crap in my local boozer, The New Edinburgh (no link, what a bunch of losers).

I demanded they changed channels to something excitring like lawn bowling. We go9t tyo weatch the golf at least. What I did see was just a pile of illiterate musicians playing. Only some tried to be profound, thank goodness.

  18. Maybe she meant, “Is everyone going iko?” - like the Shonen Knife song:

Riding on the rocket I wanna go to Pluto
Space foods are marshmallows, asparagus, ice cream, ooh
Blue eyed kitty cat said “Please let me go with you.”

    Iko, iko everybody let’s go
    Iko, iko everybody let’s go
    Iko, iko everybody iko

    .....
