LIFE ISN’T FAIR

You try to be the best little civilisation-hater you can be, railing against Israel and the US, and you still get blown to pieces by insane Islamic suicide bombers:

KARACHI: At least five persons including MMA leader Allama Hassan Turrabi were killed and three others including slain Hassan Turrabi son received grievous injuries in a suicide attack and firing incidents here Friday ...

According to the police, Allama Turabi was on his way to his residence after attending a big anti-Israel rally organised by the MMA at Binori Town Mosque after Friday prayers to condemn the Israeli bombardment on Palestine and Lebanon. As soon as he reached near his residence, a suicide bomber, who was reportedly standing a few steps away from the gate of the residence, moved towards him.

The bomber—described as “wearing a black gown on blue jeans, which is commonly used by Shia ulema”—was subsequently arrested:

Authorities [have] taken the body parts of the suicide bomber into custody ...

How did Allama’s supporters react?

As soon as the doctors pronounced Allama Turabi dead, his followers and supporters started crying and chanting slogans against America, Israel and the government.

Naturally. Another report of the bombing here.

UPDATE. The NYT:

Turabi had strongly criticized Israel and expressed support for Hamas and Hezbollah, according to local news reports.

Live by the suicide bomb, die by the suicide bomb.

  13. when does the search for root causes begin?

Well, personally, I’m angry over the imperialist Muslim conquest of the lands of my Roman forebears. We’ve gotten them out of southern Hispania, and Jerusalem and much of the rest of Judea is now under the control of the previous owners (the Jews are doing a good job of administration, so I’m OK with that. Plus, honestly, they have a better claim than I do.) But the Muslims still occupy large swaths of our former Roman-Christian-Western lands. I don’t expect them to all return to Arabia, but the least they could do is stop with their nonsensical claims of historical grievances.

Since when can a conqueror claim victimization when his conquered lands get re-conquered? Especially when he still controls about 80% of them and those sit on a crapload of oil?

  18. Like it Dave S, however the attempted invasion of Vienna by the Turks brought coffee to Europe in a big way. A fellow slow to claim his spoils ended up with vast numbers of bags of beans. Many would see this as a good thing.

The cruel part of me is tittilated by whom the left is going to support, Shia or Sunni, Hamas or Hizbollah, (Big Pharoah reports the Arab League leaders including PLO who are mightily narked by Hizbollah) Muslim Brotherhood or Iran. Prince Hussain of Jordan said a while back that Iraq was having the civil war the Middle East was doomed to have. The Shia Sunni battle is emerging? Has been happening for a while in Pakistan, and the gloves are off in Iraq.

  19. In the Sunday Age today, 16/7, Terry Lane cuddles up semantically to Arab ‘terrorists’ who are really just freedom fighters or some such.
His argument is pretty sick or pretty stupid, I’m not sure which.
In 1942, Reinhard Heydrich, the Reichsprotektor of Bohemia and Moravia, was on his way to work in Prague when his car was attacked by two Czech resistance fighters. Heydrich was mortally wounded and died in hospital.

We designate the assassins “resistance fighters” retrospectively. To the Germans, they were terrorists. When they struck, they were not in uniform and they had been trained for their murderous task in Britain and secretly returned to Czechoslovakia. They were, by anyone’s definition, terrorists. If German might had prevailed in Europe, that is how they would have gone down in history.

    Heydrich

Lane continues his argument with respect to Lidice:
The Germans, determined to protect the lives of any of their citizens, “waded through blood”, in Hitler’s words, to exact revenge.

They chose the town of Lidice to demonstrate their rage and their reach. When the avenging Germans had finished, they left behind a pile of rubble and 1300 corpses - because one German had been murdered. Or was it murder?

Were the assassins freedom fighters or terrorists? Was Heydrich a civilian government official or a soldier? Only the victors assign the tags. The side that eventually won declared the punishment of Lidice to be an atrocity and a war crime and there was a sort of consensus that collective punishment of the innocent, either as revenge or to discourage others, is a morally unacceptable technique for waging war.
As if an atrocity like Lidice was dubbed an atrocity just by the war’s victors. Of course, Lane’s real point is that Israel’s response to Hezbollah and Hamas is equivalent to Lidice—but he isn’t quite game to say so explicitly.

  20. Gross guy Lane. Israel asked for their guys to be returned and did not ask for the death of the kidnappers. The Germans simply killed 1300 as retribution. He can’t or won’t more likely, see that the Israelis are taking out strategic targets to stop weapon delivery to Lebanon and minimise Hizoballah, with warnings to those in the target areas. But he declares by his narrative that Israel is about revenge or to discourage others, no defence of Israelis by Israelis for him. And why doesn’t he say it outright. Because it could be rebutted, this invoking of the homicidal mania of Germany as a corollary to Israel’s actions allows him to say it from a deniable position This is moral relativism blatantly exercised in support of his dislike of Israel, and, I can’t but suspect it, dislike of Jews. Random rockets fired at Israeli civilians is not absolutley collective punishment! If he thinks so he should say so. But he doesn’t does he. They are fair game.
A moral compass that cannot tell that the butchering in Liddice was a crime who ever won, and that the better part of mankind would see it so, is badly distorted. Very sick analogy all together, that if Germany had prevailed they would be.. , as if that notion would somehow be business as usual for humanity.

Is there something about Islam that makes its practitioners totally impervious to logical thinking?  Shi’a pioneered suicide bombing, now that their own ox is being gored they don’t like it.  Fancy that.  It’s pretty plain this scumbag must have been a Sunni who hates the Shi’a, but Turrabi’s sock puppets blame Israel and America.  Riiight.  As for the government, it’s a bit more plausible that it might be an ISI job, but ISI suicide bombers generally let themselves go in Kashmir or India.  Probably one of those heroic jihad groups of private individuals fighting for the faith.  Sucks to be the target of terrorism, doesn’t it Shi’a Pakistanis?  How about you learning from the experience not to support terrorist swine?

  42. addamo, have you got a clue at all? The aggro was begun - as usual - by Arabs, Hezbollah to be exact. And you think it’s all just one big excuse for Israel to go batshit? With U.S. support? Every time Israel dares to defend her right to exist, leftwing gas bubbles like you, squeezing painfully through the irritable bowels of society, emerge with a little squeal to whine - again and again - that it’s clear the whole thing is some plot by Amerika to hurt poor Palestinian children. You see no irony here? A bomber blowing up another fanatical Palestinian hatemonger who figured he was safe ‘cause he approved of suicide bombing? Instead you point us to pictures of blown up corpses of Palestinians as if that would make us go…oh, I get it now! I see the larger meaning here. Of course. If Israel would only stop destroying innocent Arab lives then suicide bombers would stop their murderous ways and just, I don’t know, hire out as self-positioning, auto-detonating, self-contained explosive packs for use in tunnel blasting and other general infrastructure construction? (“I think we’re gonna need at least two Prophet IV’s over here Max, this is a particularly tough stretch of limestone…”)

It reminds me of the cartoon character who is trying to get his act accepted into the circus by becoming the Human Bomb. To show the promoter what a great act it’s going to be, he blows himself up. The promoter is ecstatic. He wants to sign the Human Bomb immediately to a contract. But the HB, obviously about to expire, says, “Unfortunately there is a drawback…” “What?” the eager promoter asks. “I can only do it once.”
