LEGBLOGGER

Via the great Norm Geras, news that Shane Warne is now a blogger. Main topics: cricket, natch, and poker. Given the chance, Warne might also comment on other subjects:

How many journalistic relationships would survive the scrutiny of Shane Warne’s now-ended marriage to wife Simone? The Australian Test team should produce a newspaper devoted to the affairs and deceits of Australian reporters and editors.

  2. How do you bet on cricket? Who makes a century, over-under on runs?

As with every other sport you can bet on most things you can think of.

To win a match, to win a series, the overall series score, to have the first innings lead, most runs, under/overs on individual player scores, etc., etc. There’s also the prop bets - on the bizarre things like who will win the toss…

As always for anything you can think of there’s a bookie somewhere offering odds…

  5. And when cricket was going through its match-fixing betting scandals in the 90s, funny bets allowed crooked play without being obvious or compromising results: bets on whether someone would be placed at third man in the first five overs, for instance.

The Indians are famous - er, infamous - for their cricket betting operations.  A couple of Aussie cricketers in the past have admitted taking calls from Indian bookmakers asking innocent questions about “the weather” and “the condition of the pitch”.

To answer your question, I’m not a betting guy but I’m pretty sure outfits like Centrebet in Oz take bets on cricket (or anything at all).
