LEFTISTS ATTEMPT PARODY

Satire isn’t easy. Scroll through this collection of mock-conservative posts; struggle to locate even one that hits a target.

  2. A host is a host
    And coast to coast
Nobody talks to a host that’s close
    Unless the host
    That isn’t close
    Is busy, hung, or dead.

They are better at satirizing themselves.

  4. Ah, there it is.

    Yep.

Language problem.  They’re writing a mock-conservative blog using leftist language.

Score 0 for observation skills, guys.

  5. For me the best satire I’ve read were your posts on Jeff Gannon.  “Yes, that Jeff Gannnon”.  Especially the neocon meeting in which Karl Rove reached into the Doomsday box (or whatever) to retrieve the Top Secret plan to eliminate Democratic opposition.  (Is that satire?) That was priceless.  I wish you would do more of it.  You have a gift for it.

I will say that Iowahawk (curls fingers in wriggly motion) has a gift for it as well.  Great stuff.  Lazy neocon.  But great writer.

  8. That blog banned me from comments two weeks ago.

Now it’s trying to imitate RWDBs like me.

    I’m flattered.

P.S. It has a really crappy server, and appears to have broken under the Timalanche.

  11. Pixy Misa, it’s going to be very difficult to malign you if you keep displaying a) a sense of humour and b) literary talent. Sour negativity, dear, that’s the tone you need to develop.

PS: The Webdiarists have no bread?
    Let them eat Bartleweet!

  13. Finally got through to the server.....

Pretty pitiful.  Leftist jargon (as per Pixy Misa), strident tones, and the attitude that “My opinions are facts, dammit!”

  16. OK, Lefties, here’s a tip for parodying the Right - the most important thing to remember is to keep it brief (very) and to the point. RWDBs don’t go on long harangues like you do. No time. We have to work for a living to keep you in grants and trust funds.

  17. Watch those formatting codes, guys! This new version of Expression Engine doesn’t protect the rest of the page from formatting mistakes the way the previous one did. (I’m not sure why—maybe that protection caused problems elsewhere.)

  18. OK, what am I not getting? Where’s the satire? They really don’t get the rightwing’s self-effacing humor at all. In fact, what humor there is already belongs to the right, they’re just copying it...Whoa! That’s it! It’s a forgery. Or rather, it MAY be a forgery, but the information in it is beyond reproach!

Wow. That was like getting kicked in the teeth by Jesus! Now I understand why the Left thinks it is OK to forge something in order to prove that a forgery is factually correct. Wow. I’m just...humbled. Thanks, Tim.

  23. Yes. It’s the Left’s attempt at satire, but all they can think is, ‘...Forge it, forge it! That’s better than not forging it, and, having no original ideas of our own, having everyone think we’re not funny, init? Factually, we’re very funny, but we have no paperwork to prove it. So we have to forge it.’

  27. Nailgun, they were running snippets of Pinter’s acceptance speech on BBC radio last night. BBC chose to include the bit where he mentions the ‘100,000 killed in Iraq’ figure, which has been discredited.

BBC, of course, allowed it to run unchallenged.

  29. LP’s effort is kind of sad, really. I mean, they are trying for parody, but using long winded harangues full of self-pitying lefty terms, with a twee ‘see how clever we are’ twist just makes them look like tossers. Oh, wait…

2/10 effort: best anyone can really expect. They just cannot DO concise and cutting at all.

No, is it not. It is much more convincing, German to English word for word to translate.

Well, or something like that. Maybe they should try that next, come to think of it…

  32. Anyway, if the Larvatus guys care for some pointers (and boy, do they ever need them), I’d suggest they look at the Jesus’ General blog. Not my cup of tea, for obvious reasons, but a) the guy writes pretty well, and b) he actually knows which buttons to push on us RWDBs.

Hell, it’s a struggle to find a coherent thought on that site. The writers seem to have some hellish combination of schizophrenia and Tourettes.
