LEFTIES FOR FUNDIES

Victor Davis Hanson observes:

The more left-wing the Westerner, the more tolerant he is of right-wing Islamic extremism.

An example: George Galloway.

(Via LGF)

UPDATE. Norm Geras notes similar leftoid tendencies:

Liberal newspapers and veteran left-wing journalists spouting apologetic drivel while some of the politicians they most despise tell it like it is. That is where we are.

  1. It’s a strange world when you go to the government for facts rather then the media.

  2. Put another way, Aging Gamer, it’s bizarre that we trust the media less than the government.

  5. richard, I guess I’m not following this thread closely enough.  What do you mean about hugging?  Sometimes Australian slang goes right over my head.

  6. You know blerp - GROUP hug, warm and fuzzy.

  7. Unfortunately , the conclusion is that it is much easier to appease our enemies and attack our own friends (or those who do not fight back).
At Uni in London in the early seventies, i learned this lesson when i criticised Pol Pot for his massacres and was told to show solidarity to the struggling leader.

  8. Sadly we need look no further than today’s publically funded ABC Insiders where Andrew Bolt was shouted and howled down by Trioli and host Barry.Marr just ponced and spat and hissy fitted.
With 3 ABC representatives on the panel and one person viewed as more right wing what chance do the Australian people have to get a guernsey at all.
This disgraceful agitprop has thrown aside all pretence and neither Bolt nor Akermann should appear on it.
That will ensure that they have NO counter views at all and thus no excuse for a proper programme.

  9. No Crash,
they have to be there. The problem with the Fairfax press is that after awhile, we begin to think, is it us who are wrong? Bolt and Ackermann provide the contrast that exemplifies the stupidity of these commentators.

  11. Oh come on tim, generalise much? Thats ridiculous.

  12. Nic, is this comment for another post? Because it makes no sense in the context of this one. Tim made no statements of any kind; he merely quoted other people. Perhaps you have some examples to counter these quotes. Personally I’d be relieved if there was a prominent radical leftist whose every utterance didn’t lead one to believe that he no-longer-so-secretly admired the burkas-‘n’-beheading set. (And Christopher Hitchens doesn’t count.)

  13. I just had a look a Nic White (the moonbat Nic) blog. Forgive me VRWC, I am a terrible stickybeak.

  16. Hah, so Im a moonbat because I think tim is generalising?

Andrea, Im objecting to the implication that many if not all those on the “left” are apologists for Islamic extremism. This is simply not true. Tim did not make a direct statement saying this, but the quotes he chosed and effectively endorsed made the same point.

George Galloway definately does not speak for all of them, he is definately in the minority.

I know what you’re objecting to. I asked you to give me an example countering this post. You DIDN’T. Instead you just repeated yourself. That’s the standard tactic of the so-called “oppostion”: just keep saying the same thing over and over, as if sheer repetition is a subsitute for an actual argument. It’s not, it’s simply a slightly more evolved version of “I know you are but what am I.” This is what lands you in moonbat status. If you don’t like it, come up with examples to back up your statements. Otherwise the rest of us will just keep on believing in the continuing stream of evidence that the majority of radical leftists are fans of totalitarian theothugs simply because they target the same institutions leftists are against, and that they are willing to sell out their supposed precious freedoms (that the Evil KKKapitalist AmeriKKKans are supposedly taking away) to Islamic terrorist-backed fascists in order to get power.

  18. If it’s any consolation, the Trots condemn the armed insurgency - as they do all terrorist outfits, whatever their cause - and state that the only way to remove the occupation is through the mobilisation of the international working class.

It’s almost an extension of contemporary lefty politics, in that they only know what they’re against, not what they’re for. Likewise, Nic only seems capable of saying that Galloway is not representative, but not who is. In other words, as long as he’s able to shoot down Tim’s argument, it apparently doesn’t matter that he can’t advance one of his own. So very constructive.
