LANGUISHER TO SWAY ELECTIONS

Law Institute of Victoria president Catherine Gale apparently believes David Hicks and his kind are a major issue in the US:

A new military commission process passed late last week by the United States Congress will offer little hope for Hicks and his family.

The odds of Hicks receiving a fair trial after almost five years in custody remain firmly stacked against him. One can only wonder if this new legislation is a political manoeuvre designed to win votes in the lead-up to the mid-term elections in the US.

One can only wonder if Hicks will ever be described—as he is in Gale’s intro—as anything other than languishing.

  2. 1#, debi L.:

That’s easy. He’s an enemy of the USA. All good and proper people should be enemies of the USA. After all, even the most recent former POTUS has declared the USA as the single biggest threat to world peace.

Also, all Americans are fat, lazy, stupid, criminally insane, culturally insensitive morons lead by the devil himself in an illegal world wide racist genocidal crusade against the religion of peace.

So, anyone willing to take up arms against the USA or her allies is a “Hero of the People”.

Geeze...do I need to report you to your Thought Boss for failure to comply with Party Approved Rhetoric and Pure Thought as mandated by your betters?

  4. Hmmm.

I don’t know of anyone in America that give’s a rat’s *** about Hicks.  Frankly most people in America have no idea who Hicks is.

Just how insulated does a person have to be to even think that Hicks would be an issue in an American election?

  6. ed has it.  Practically no one in America has ever heard of David Hicks, outside of Tim Blair blog readers.  If Ms. Gale is counting on us to rescue him, he’ll languish until he rots.

  7. Oh.  I thought that bill was called “The David Hicks Bill”.  Isn’t he that prisoner that now weighs over 400 lbs?

That’s me all over, Mabel.  With one little change.

Who can be lazy when the Master of Darkness, Lord Rove, calls upon you to aid in his nefarious plans.

    Other than that...right on.

  9. Hicks threw his lot in with Al-Qaeda. “Languishing” is as good as he should expect.

I thought that our crusade was legal!?! Other than that, it’s spot on. And why should Hicks get a trial since he doesn’t qualify for one, and since his brethren of choice aren’t getting one? Wouldn’t that be an example of racism? Hmmmm?

  12. Useless tool, er I mean ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has nominated David Hicks’ father Terry for ‘Father of the Year’.  I’m inclined to cut Terry a certain amount of slack, but I’ll never forget his bizarre tour of New York, wearing an orange jumpsuit and posing in a cage, to draw attention to his son’s ‘plight’.  One New Yorker witnessing the spectacle observed impassively: “He’d better not try that in front of a fire station.”

  13. Hick’s father has been nominated Father Of The Year??!!

What exceptional thing has he done to deserve a FARTY?

This is BS. If Hicks only languishes for his life, ohhhh the ennui. He is an islamo-fascist and at least, should be held captive for the dyuration,. which may be 100 years.

  14. Don’t worry, hardly anyone in America has any idea about what’s going on in the war, much less knows who any of the involved personalities are by name. Heck, hardly any Americans know what a blog is. And after having to deal with new computer (l)users all day I’d rather it stay that way.

  15. Bloody hell.  Forget the US (on this issue); the only people in Australia who give a rats arse about Hicks are “civil liberty” lawyers, the supporters of the Taliban and the ABC (and they are not mutually exclusive, either).

  18. Hicks threw his lot in with Al-Qaeda, which opposes elections, legislation by elected bodies, and any trials except by goat abusing “clerics”. I expect any coalition legitimate soldiers (as opposed to terorists like Hicks) would not langish long after being caught in Osama land, as they would be beheaded at once. (Hey, there’s a way to cure languising, why not....?)

  20. So that’s what they’re charging him with- I got thrown in the watch-house one convivial evening, for obscene languish; I would’ve thought such loutish behaviour would have been against his religion.

  24. When it comes to cliches, the media will leave no stone unturned (as it were),in an attempt to avoid original thought, which wasn’t after all a mandatory subject in their Bachelor of Communication degree courses, so why should we be surprised.

Languishinghas connotations of rotting in some Bastille dungeon, but as we know, Hicks is probably enjoying superior conditions at Guantanamo than he did with the Taliban, so perhaps a more accurate cliche would be relaxing comfortably in his Cuban quarters at the American taxpayers’ expense, David Hicks… etc.

  26. The vast majority of practical, realist people in Australia would be quite happy to see him stuffed into the barrel of a 155mm howitzer and fired over the fence into Fidel central.

He’s garnering as much sympathy as a paedophile who poisoned Makybe Diva, drunkenly ran over Bert Newton, firebombed a hospice for orphans with leukemia and was sprung in flagrante’ delecto with the little fat kid from Hey Dad.

About as popular as a turd in a punchbowl, or maybe even Mark Latham.
